    Omg, I can't believe you actually did this back in 2017. I completed a similiar set up with a 2.5 gallon jug of water to a USB powered pump, then I connect the pump to a garden hose and that's all. Battery power, mobility, leak proof, and small foot print. The most difficult part was finding something to connect between the pump and the garden hose without leaking and I used a O-ring in the 3/4 to 1/2 adapter and it did the job. I'm so thankful that technology came a long way and people out there actually thought of way to make our life easier ;)

    Pro Tip, when using that metal clamp, put some electrical tape or cut a 1" of the hose cut a slice in it, and wrap it around the existing hose so that it won't eat through the hose and cause a leak.

    Vanlife is my someday dream, but I have absolutely NO skills except for sewing and I want to self-build if I can. I have watched a million videos to get the how-to of what I want to do. This is exactly it! And you have put into such perfect layman's direction that even this old lady can do it. This set up is perfect for how I want my fold away shower. Now hopefully I can find a video to help me incorporate the exact same idea into just a home made copper pipe sink faucet with a with just a garden hose hand turn valve - I have no idea how to work the mechanics of that! Thank you so much for doing this video!!!

    II am impressed with your ingenuity, so I subscribed! Using a hair dryer to soften the hose is a good idea. When working on my yard drip system, I soften my 1/2" and 1/4" drip hose in hot water in a tea kettle to get it to go onto barbed connectors without a struggle. Squeezing the hose onto the barbs makes a better connection, but I need to wear a glove to protect my hand from getting burned.

    Did you seal the top opening of the water container? Don't. If you do, a vacuum will be created in the container, which will collapse the walls. Instead, insert a piece of tube as a snorkel so that air still can go inside. The height of the snorkel will prevent water from spilling out.

    Great lubes for pushing on the tube is either vaseline (or lithium grease) or temporary slippery is Windex. Ammonia is basic (opposite of an acid), a property of bases is they are slippery--however, when it dries it's no longer slippery. With ammonia or Windex, there's usually not much residue left, so it won't get slippery again if gets wet. I don't know if it would be good for drinking water, but for this I wouldn't hesitate. Nice project. Thanks for being our guinea pig...

    If you didn't want to have two sprayers...What about just taking the outdoor spray nozzle off and stick it in something to catch or absorb the water left in its head, then just turn the flow regulator to closed. Then all you have to do is put that spray nozzle back on and adjust the flow regulator to allow flow again. A great product for camping fixes is Sugru. If you don't know about it , you can get ideas online. We love it. That is what we'd try for dealing with the spaces in the lid / hose. Thanks again. If you want warm water you could always run some tubing inside a black plastic bag in the sun on your roof and cycle it back in to the water container or heat up a quart of water and dump it back in the container. The one thing about having stuff under the seat on the floor its great in the summer for keeping food and water from getting hot even when the car is 120 degrees inside it very insulated area.

      The imperfect fruitarian Thanks for your kind comment. I imagine some things could pull on the battery so I installed an energy monitor. I unplug everything else and see if there is any draw. The pump does not pull power when up to pressure but I unplug anyway if not going to use for a while just to be safe, for now. Thanks for watching!

    There is a better idea and save all the building. Submersible pump with a shower head or kitchen sink head. Charges with USB car charger. $30. Drop it in any container and push button to start.

    Can this pump be submersed? I saw a different project that did that. Seems like a great way to guarantee no leaking and make the whole thing more contained. I ask because I wasn’t impressed by the pressure created by the pump in that video.

    Is an in-line filter worth it? I bought one but will probably return it. Plus I would have to buy yet again: two more fittings. Ugh

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  5 лет назад +1

      The filter would be a good idea if you will be places you are not sure about the water quality. If you do, make sure it is easy to get to to replace. I just didn’t have the room. I don’t drink the water in the bin, I bring bottled water. I put a little bleach in each jug just to make sure nothing grows in the system. Thanks for your comments and for watching!

      @wanderlostrvr2582 5 лет назад +1

      Thanks. I too do not use it as drinking water and add bleach. Now it’s a matter of getting two other fittings. Another trip to Lowe’s...?!

    Amazing. Can you power this using usb power bank.

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  6 лет назад

      Glad you liked the video. The pump in this video needs 12 volts, the USB bank puts out only 5 volts so it would not work. I am not aware of a pressure switched pump that runs on 5 volts but there might be one out there. Thanks for your question and for watching!

    m setting up my van and bought the same pump maybe a size bigger. My application is for a mini kitchen and regular house faucet. Im hung up on the on/off switch. It doesn't appear that you have a on/off switch in this video and my question is do you need one? Does the pump regulate on automatically on the faucet is turned on? Thanks in advance for you response and time. (Equip seaflow self priming pump, 7 gallon water jug)

    Can you share if you have to have your Engine running to work this setup? If your 12V runs while car is off how much battery does it pull? If my Jeep has to be running are their any ways to change that?

    I noticed the way you got your power from inside the center console. My consul will not open without sliding the lid backwards. I went to the Toyota dealer and they said that there was no way to overcome that problem. I am willing to bet that you can figure it out if anyone can.

      You will love it - cheapest way to see the country. I haven't paid for a hotel room since I converted mine. The window coverings are a time commitment. The first one takes quite a while to do but after that it goes faster. Mine have held up very well and I keep them in all year around.

      I have went from a 17' travel trailer and truck, down to a 5x8 converted cargo trailer and truck to a 4runner and now I am down to the prius. Did you know that the prius with the seats down and front seats forward that the area (LxW) is the exact same as my 3rd gen 4runner. Very amazing, I can't believe it. Doesn't have the headroom if you are sitting in the back but overall very impressed. Really appreciate your videos.

    Would this work with a 5 gallon jug? Traveling with 2 people and a dog who need to shower. Also wondering with the sink sprayer in use how many minutes do you have approximately before the water tank is empty?

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  6 лет назад +1

      The 2 gallon jug will fit in the setup shown in the video next to the Dometic (behind passenger seat). A 5 gallon jug would not fit unless you put the cooler somewhere else then you have room for probably 10 gallons. 5 gallons should be fine for 2 people to take a shower with the sink sprayer. If you use a garden sprayer on the Mist setting you might be more efficient but might take some getting used to but you can always change the setting on the sprayer to what works. I would test both the sink sprayer and garden spray beforehand and see what works for you. It also may be worth getting the 5 gallon solar water bag to heat the water and then pour back into the container for a pressurized shower. I haven't tested how many continuous minutes of water I can get out of the 1 gallon jug - that would be good to know. I will have to try that out but it's terrible cold today. Thanks for your questions and for watching!

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  6 лет назад +2

      This is the best way I have found to heat the water - works pretty well but needs direct sun. a.co/iaKxPjt

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  6 лет назад +1

      It doesn't work very well as a shower - you have to hang a very very very heavy bag on something way over your head and the nozzel isn't that great.

    You could always keep a baby diaper underneath , just in case it decides to leak when you have it in your car.
