      Why do they keep the nose against the dock? The pumps are doing their jobs keeping the water so strong! I love how the fire boast can pump so much water with power!
      Saw my answer in another comment!

    • @KM-qx6nh
      @KM-qx6nh Год назад +1

      @@chuckengle1922 I’m a novice and don’t know squat, but I would imagine that since the nozzles exert so much pressure, they would have the effect of pushing the boat back out away from their stationing. Therefore, they put the nose against the shore/dock/whatever and keep the engines pushing the boat against the barrier so that the platform stays stationary and in correct position….. but I’m truly just guessing.

      @@kbtechandmedia Look into Fifi vessels used on offshore service/standby vessels for the oil field and LNG terminals. Most anchor handling tugs and work boats are fifi1, but the more dedicated standby vessels have Fifi 2 or 3 and the requirements are immense. Fifi 2 and 3 require 3-4 monitors and have to supply 31,000 and 42,200gpm, respectively. As well as shoot about 110meters vertically to hit derricks. Simply crazy stuff. They also require 3-4 individual pumps, and like you said usually ran from 1000 hp diesels, or if using electric motors they need auxillary generators, and the emergency generator has to run at least half the pumps for DNV OSV rules

      Well, I would've thought they had a tank too. Not because it wouldn't empty very fast, but as a reserve to make sure they maintain constant pressure, and possibly as a sediment bowl. It would be like a fuel sediment bowl on a carburetad engine, and also like an electrical capacitor at the same time. I'm sure the intake is roughly filtered, but you know some heavy particles and marine life surely make it through, and a chambered tank would defeat those things and release marine life back into the water source.

      @@mallarysangel the ship I worked on had many tanks for whatever it needed to haul but I don't believe it had a tank that could be used to hold water for the monitor. It was just a 500hp cummins with a pipe that picked up water from whatever the ship was floating in. The monitor had a 6 inch hole in the end and I believe the suction was a 10 or 12 inch.

    • @Hammermj88
      @Hammermj88 5 лет назад +2

      I assume it's two fold... 1. because the engines have to pump the water to the fire and 2. to keep the ship stable and anchored against the seawall for better control of the water stream.

      If you're talking about the smaller fireboat to the right, I think that was just the exhaust from the idling or very low throttle main engines. They do need some throttle on the main engines to keep the boat anchored against the seawall so they don't have to constantly re-aim the streams, because without that the force from the water cannons would push the boat away from that seawall. Newton's 3rd law in action there, the water goes one way the boat goes the other way. However, it shouldn't take full throttle to do that, as a propeller can bite into a LOT of water at once so it doesn't need to move it very fast, while the stream from the water cannon needs to be going at a relatively high velocity (and therefore pressure) to get all the way to where the fire is. More water moving slower (the main engines pushing against the seawall) wins in this case.

    Why is that fireboat spraying water into the water instead of spraying the water on the factory building?

    • @molassesflash
      @molassesflash 4 года назад

      They spray the water in the oppisite direction of the water canons too keep the boat in place because other wise the force of shooting the water out of the deck guns would be too powerful and push the boat back.

    Is that LDH supply line hooked up to the smaller fireboat? It looks like they’ve hooked up for water supply for ground operations to the boat. As long as it’s there I suppose you might as well use water from it, you’ll get PLENTY of flow rate and pressure after all

      Magi Obiwan if you're referencing the yellow tube to the port side of the smaller vessel, I believe that's a containment barrier, such as is used to contain hazardous or environmentally unfriendly materials following a spill or release; like after an out spill

      I'm pretty sure that is a fuel supply. Just like firetrucks these apparatus use lots and lots of fuel.
      On big fires on land the FD calls in fuel trucks to meet the need. The same holds true for boats.

What kind of a camera and lens were you using? It's one of the best I have seen for use on RUclips. Best part was your camera was not constantly refocusing except on occasion. You have some serious camera work there. I want a camera like yours.

      Species1571 probably because the cannons are so powerful, it would have been too dangerous for it to do much else. It would have flattened the building and more than likely the others around it.
