On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 9-27-18.
We're looking at a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS “ Super Sport ” Convertible in Fathom Blue Paint with White Stripes & Top. The car comes with the factory V8 454 Cubic Inch LS6 engine producing 450 HP and equipped with a Muncie 4 Speed “Rock Crusher” transmission.
The car's Owner is Ken Nagel. Ken’s had this car since 2014. He shares the details of his car that looks “showroom” new. Although Chevrolet produced 53,000+ Chevelle SS’s built in 1970, only 18 were convertible 454 LS6 engines with a factory 4 speed.
If you'd like to see this car on Ken's website here is the link kennagelclassi...

Hey Lou you really hit it with this one, I ordered my SS454 brand new, 4 speed, red with black stripes black vinyl top black interior ,. A little story i lived way out in the country with my parents at the time i used to wash my Chevelle and then drive it down the road to dry it off, well the speed limit on this road was 65 and i usually took it up to 130 to dry it good, anyways one time i was doing this and i seen a car in my rear view mirror and i thought to myself gee that car should not be there after what i just did so i slowed down more after a mile this car catches up to me and puts his blue light on and pulls me over, the officer asked me how fast was i going and in a sheepish voice i said 70 maybe,... well the officer said to me i was going 100 and you were pulling away,... and i replied ohhh thinking now i am in deep do do, well as it turned out he was a detective and told me there would be no ticket as long as i let him know of any bad activity going on and i said sure... we went our separate ways i slowed down and never seen him again.

this car was found in a junkyard in north Carolina in 1989.
I was working at the shop where the car was brought to.
the owner of the shop was going to restore it but it was a basketcase.
      so he resold it.
the car is nothing but reproduction and restamped parts

This is my dream car 100%. The color combo, everything. It is the most beautiful muscle car ever! Best year for Chevelles. I am so into them I bought a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu Premier. My own modern version of a Chevelle. The closest I could afford. I would love to ride in a 1970 just like this one!!

Lou you did it again. The Great thing about owning these cars from a certain Era is what you said when you were filming the interior and that was when you sit in those cars that you own, it takes you back to that time and place in your life that was special. I hope he takes time to enjoy that car. It's a rare car to own and like he said he grew up in the 50s and 60s and loved those cars. Thanks again Lou for a nother great My Car Story.

this is a joke it is not a true L.S. 6 it is just a ss 454 that is all they are lying about the L.S. and the holy grail is the 70 chevelle ss L.S. 7 427 small block they built 6 of them L.S. never built a bb in history one block for all like a pontiac only the L.S. is smaller like a chevy sb to reduce weight .

Nice LS6. Rockcrusher was not the name of the shifter, it was the name of the Muncie M22 4 speed gearbox due to it's almost straight cut gears thus making the famous whine. My channel shows my 1970 Z28 that has the M22 in it. The smog pump was not just a California requirement. Many muscle cars from 68 on had the smog pump. My 70 Z28 was built in Norwood Ohio and was shipped to Ontario Motor Sales in Oshawa Ontario Canada and it came with a smog pump. My pump seized up on me last summer, so the pump and tubes are currently off the LT1 engine. My 1968 Z/28 I bought in 1974 while attending College came with a smog pump but was not on the car when I bought it. A friend of mine owns my 68 Z/28 today. My future Musclecar will be a 1970 SS396 Chevelle SS with a 4-speed and ZL2 flapper cowl induction hood option. The ZL2 flapper works under engine vacuum and had a solenoid and a switch at the gas pedal to make it work.

I had one like this once, nearly identical with one exception. Mine was a hard top, stripes not quite as wide, different steering wheel, shifter and Crager SS 61 chrome wheels... Everything else pretty much the same.. Beautiful car. Had it from 1973 till 1985 when someone made me an offer that was hard to refuse. Wish I still had her...

Come to think of it,this would be an idea if he's willing to do all that driving. That aside, this is one of GM's finest muscle cars. Wow (which this one sure is) is an understatement.
I've not seen one of these in such pristine condition in a LONG time. I do remember these brand new in the showroom. Man,those were the days. I actually knew a gentleman who purchased one at the first GM dealership I knew in Toronto Canada. Sadly(Belmont Chev-Olds) that dealership no longer exists, but the memories of those cars still exist in my mind. Imagine for around CA$4500 you could've had one of these brand new out of the box in 1970! I often wonder what happened to our world since then.
The sound of that 454LS6 really gets my heart thumping. Ive had friends with these who use to race them. I've driven them as well and when you "put the pedal to the metal" as saying goes, you felt as if you were piloting a 747!
When the Holly 780 cfm carburetor fed this beast of an engine you'd better hang on for dear life because you and your passengers are going to fly. And also you could literally see the fuel gauge move toward empty very quickly which is to be expected.
Gas was 25 cents a gallon back then!
I sure miss the good old days. Anyway Lou I'll wrap up now, you and the owner have a gr8 God blessed day.

One of the top (available) LS6 Convertibles in the country is up for auction at Mecum Glendale next month, it’s the black on black “Fuller Car”. Do you ever visit these auctions, Lou ? I’ll definitely be watching to see what the top models go for.

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  4 года назад

Hi richgall63, Usually don't go to auctions to often because when I ask, "So how long have you had the car?" and they say "About an hour" doesn't make much of a story :-) HOWEVER sometimes there is still a good story on why they wanted the car, Lou

    • @richgall63

Lou Costabile, I’ve never been to a Mecum in person but I figured there might be some previous “seller” owners on hand, particularly to say “yay” or “nay” if there is a reserve on the car. It may actually be one of the optimum times in history to bid on these gems since the demand is relatively low now. The unrestored with just 10k mi “Fuller Car” didn’t reach its reserve 6 months ago at Monterey !

Here, Peter says his LS6 Convt is easily worth 150-200k, and this was close to 20yrs ago! But no matter how impeccable that Chevelle is, he mentions its restored, so it isn’t nearly as valuable as an original. His car would be very lucky to get 150-200 today. @20yrs ago, “experts” were predicting the top muscle cars would be into the 7 digits, but routinely, that isn’t the case these days.

To top it off it’s an auction car. If I had a Bonafide LS6 I would put a price on it and someone would pay it. You don’t need an auction to sell a car. La la la.... I’m playing my violin to this “LS6”

Should the door latch and the striker pin be painted ? Seems like they would have been installed after the car was painted at the factory. I'm not a Chevy guy so I don't know for sure it was just something that caught my eyes as soon as he opened the door.
