The 70 Chevelle SS is still a beautiful car. The lines are timeless. Fifty years later I never get tired of looking at them. It's my favorite of all time.
Interesting thing is the advertised HP and Torque rating was well below the factory redline of 6500. That rating was at @5600. All you had to do was add large primary tube headers, increase the jet sizes by 4 in front, 2 in rear, add @5 degrees in initial timing and that thing became a MONSTER!
The 1970 454 LS-6 450 HP engine used a Holley 800 CFM spread bore carburetor specifically for this engine. Another engine option was the LS5 365 HP which used the Rochester Q-jet 750 cfm unit, other engine options were the L34-396-402 350 HP, Q-jet carb, L78-396-402 375 HP, & the L89 were also Holley Carb however this final option used Aluminum heads. I know since I owned a few of these new in there day way back then. They were some of the best! The customer had allot of options to choice from. Something you don't see any more.
So was the Holley carb. an option for the Ls6? This one you said was a quadrajet but on another Ls6 cars you have featured you said holley 850. They say they Holley performs better but for me I'll take the intake howl of a quad. any day, even if I had to loose some h.p. Keep up the good work. I love your channel!
The Corvette low rise intake never made any sense in the Chevelle. The hi rise L72/L88 intake would’ve fit just fine and added 10-15hp over the terrible low riser.
Back in 83 my brother had a red 70 SS396 402 4 speed. Pretty bad ass car for an 18 year old. Too bad I was 3 at the time. I remember being in it once. I'm thinkin his had buckets.
I had the same except it was a 1971 LS6 aluminum head job. Just a change of pistons and to the ZL1 cam and I had the LS7. A friend had the Monty 1971 LS6 w/th400 dk green...

Nice observation. Thanks
For sure! It was a trick also used by the L88 Corvettes.
Awesome car, but I gotta go with the hardtop version. I like how you guys really drive the cars and not just talk about them. Cool!
Wow what a car what a time to be alive I miss the old days
The LS6 454 had a Holly Carb Kevin.

beautiful ride!!
I got a ride in one when I was 22 it had a turbo 400 in it.But with 4 200 lbs guys it would smoke the tires at 30 mph by just matting the pedal
I wouldn't mention the Charlie Sheen ownership thing, it might make it go down in value...
And the Tuxedo Black is Perfect for this Beauty. Bucket seat's would have been nice but bench seats are great for your gal to slide up next to you.
Slide up next to you and scream "slow down"🤣
I think you slipped on the rim size too but, it's all good; love the series.
15x7 should be 14x7
I remember them, awesome.
BIG BLOCKS Naturally aspirated. Imagine with today's technology. 👑
He also slipped on saying smog was for California cars when in fact all LS6 cars had the smog system along with L78 cars.
i wanna see this bad boy vs that 70 something hemi plum crazy Challenger y'all got
Both overrated why not a super rare 1971 euroshelby
Great car, I do believe that would be a Holley, not a quad carburetor..

No, video shows a dual feed Holley, not Quadrajet. No one is perfect.
Time for some new rings in that beast of an engine.
If Charlie owned it I would be checking out the back seat

Bench seats in a SS just don't do it for me. I had a 70 SS 396.

I had a 72 SS 454 and it had a bench seat.
Strato buckets were really comfortable.
Why all the haters ? Like any of you fools could could even pay the title transfer . depending on miles this cars gotta be pushing 100k ? $
Well north of that.
one cool,fully loaded motor.love it,Kevin,keep 'em coming.

They didn’t put the LS6 in a chevelle in 71.
P.s. I would still like to see p.o.v. Shot from inside the car! Heck I'd get ya a gopro for that!
70 had 14 in wheels
Man, that car sounds neutered for a 4.10 geared, large port, solid lifter, screamin big block. Sounds like an Olds 98.
Excellent
It's hard to believe dual exhaust was an option with the LS-6. I'm not sure if that's right.
No 👎🏼
I concor. The hard top is tightest
Rochester carb? It came with a Holley carb.
Stephanie Kong
did it smell like coke booze and hookers since Charlie sheen owned it briefly?
@Davis Dean Still pushing that rumor? people.com/tv/corey-haim-mother-names-his-alleged-abuser/
I think the L S-6 had a Holley carb not the Q-Jet..
a bench seat? ! who orders a bench in a beast like that?it ain't a freakin taxi! lol! I just don't get it. nice ride through i reckon. ☆☆☆
SS package should have included buckets and floor shifter
Who lets you lite em up in a car worth that much??
