A long time ago, occasionally referred to as the early 80s, there was an article in Hot Rod showcasing a guy drag racing a convertible LS6. I can only recall parts of the article, but he truly ran it budget minded. Worn out shocks in front (to help with weight transfer) and he found the slight flex of the convertible helped him launch better. Back when these were “just 10 year old cars”. This one is stunning and checks all the boxes. Thanks for sharing ~ Chuck
A guy in my home town had one of these in the late 70’s. He bought from the original owner and did a light restoration and flipped it. Being in Minnesota there was even then some minor rust repair and he did a repaint. Black and white stripes just like this one. It was a beast. Don’t remember seeing too many of these regardless. Mostly the 396 varieties.
My neighbor had a beautiful black coupe SS 454, 4spd posi. I ❤it. His was da LS5, 365hp. It was AWESOME. He'd let me drive it (ofcourse, he went too), & would tell me ,on 3rd U making a turn! Dats how much torque dis beast had. My dad had a '70 Riviera GS Stage 1, & I would be dumb racing my pal on deserted roads. My dad's Riv was heavier , plus fully equipped. 1 thing, he couldn't LOSE ME. Dat Stage 1 could melt da 2tires . Good ole days. Wen driving was FUN!!! & even premium gas was cheap. But, we complained, anyway ❤
Tremendous find, Steve! And great detail on what makes this one special. Undocumented or not, this is a high quality masterpiece any collector would be proud to own!👍👍
Why wasn't the lower-horse (360) LS5 mentioned as well, Steve? As rare as these "hens teeth" LS6's were, the L78 was MORE rare, ie. 4,475/LS6 vs. 2,144/L78.
Same boxed frame in wagons and El Caminos, right? Also, a 396 4-speed '70 SS Chevelle would've been my first 'good' car if it hadn't been for Reaganomics making my old man have to sell it (I was born in 1985). As it stood, it was a 383 4-speed '68 Dart GTS, so I didn't miss it, because I like a smaller car anyway.
Sorry to hear your family suffered under Regan. He fired the air traffic controllers and destroyed the unions for years to come and don't forget he closed the mental hospitals and put the patients on the streets. Convertibles come with the boxed frame.
It's not. It's a fairly good recreation, but the real Chevelle nerds can spot a bunch of incorrect stuff here. (silver dash circles, master cylinder, tach, etc).

Very poor clone. There's more wrong with this car than right. Stevie Wonder must have restored this car, just look at the trunk emblem location. I couldn't even look at the car anymore after he opened the hood as it's just that poorly restored.
Beautiful car! So does that mean this is a "clone" or is it the real deal? I guess that would make a few hundred thousand difference in price. Either way, some of the best of Chevrolet muscle.
@@markg7030 ok thanks. Yeah I knew a guy who would make Chevy clones. He made them close to Chevy original specs but they were clones nonetheless. He made a ZL1 clone with an all aluminum 427 4 speed 4.10 gear that I would have given my house for.
Love hearing Stevie Mags talk about cool 70s Detroit Steel!!! The man knows his craft
Steves knowledge on all cars is amazing .

I would also like Patrick Glen Nichols to review this car as well.
He could probably tell them in 10 minutes if it's the real deal or not,the guy's like an encyclopedia for Chevelles, especially 70 models

I agree!
Beautiful car.
This man’s shoes tells me he knows everything about this car
I'll wait for pictures of the VIN and cowl tag before commenting.
It’s a beautiful clone
@@markpinciotti3705 No matter what, I'd still like to see the VIN and the cowl tag.
😍Nice!!! 👍👍
Nice ride ❤
Like I always tell you I am Dodge man. But this Chevelle is awesome. I would take it.
very nice junkyard crawl.
Mr. B. Here ! 👍👍😂😂
Definitely the King of the Road in 1970...
They might want to shim that starter or install a new flex plate. Beautiful car, I'm sure it's not cheap.👍
Pretty sweet!
Magical, the ultimate, a Convertible Chevelle, doesn't get much better, edging on Unicorn. Nice! Thanks Steve.
Black beauty,

❤nice how much
Otis Chandler had one in his collection with a 4 speed. Must be a handful either way.
Many 1970 Chevelle SS cars had the LS6 engine option, even convertibles.
Not many convertibles
@@MBailey1977 Roughly 3000 LS6 convertibles were produced.
@@sergeantmasson3669 That's just not true. Where do you get that information? Maybe you're thinking of LS-5's?
@@sergeantmasson3669 19-26 ls6 convertibles. I know a guy that ordered one.

Was that a red 69 ss I saw in the background
If original very rare car
One just sold for $600,000 as a documented car

How much?
It's a Frankenstein car if not numbers matching..
Nice Malibu
Patrick Glenn Nichols where you at?
High octane classification

Trim around the signal light indicators on dash should be black not silver.

Incorrect tachometer for an LS6.
Some plants put the wrong Red Line Tack in those LS6 Chevelle
Wasn't one of the GM plants,Baltimore or Flint I'm not sure responsible for putting 5500 tachs in some LS6s?

No 396 in 1970 Chevelle. All were 402 engines. Last 396 was in 1969.
True. But they were still badged as 396.
You can't FOOL PATRICK GLEN NICHOLAS 😮
an "undocumented" SS454 could be an SS396 car .... something like that, is important to me

Is it documented?? 😂
Wrong TAC FOR AN LS6
As soon as he said undocumented is when i said change the click bait to clone ls6 convertible🙄
So many things that are not CORRECT on this car.

The only LS6 conv.I know of with the 450 HP on the bumper pad is known as the black Fuller car

Good catch.
Maybe
