Why is this titled "Caribbean to Caliphate"? There are dozens of countries which make up the Caribbean. I am from a Caribbean island myself (Saint Vincent) I don't think it is right to slander an entire region's good name because of a single island's contribution to something.
Adriel Francois agreed. It's called propaganda, and it's a dangerous tool to the weak-minded.

I don't think they were trying to slander the whole Caribbean, more likely they were just using it as a geographic region because people might not know where Trinidad & Tobago is :P Caribbean is already viewed like a paradise so it just makes it sound more interesting.. it's supposed to make you think "Why would somebody leave the Caribbean to fight in a desert?!"
It's amazing that current and past governments such as the PNM and UNC parties are not helping the black youth and many of the black communities in T&T, because doing so will upset their financiers market share in guns and drugs.
Hi Rae, forgive me on the long answer below: It is true that Dole Chadee was hanged under the Panday Administration, but there is more to it. Simply put, members of the Syrian/Lebanese community was the first to bring in cocaine and began distributing it along the East-West Corridor in the late 70s early 80s. Dole Chadee and smaller independents started to give them competition which resulted in open turf war. The independents were wiped out because they emigrated, extradited or was killed. Dole was the only "major problem" left. The S/L community had something that Dole didn't have or was in the process of having... the political connections. Members of the S/L community have deep connections with politicians on both sides of the divide and they utilized the political arm to bring down Chadee. The death of Chadee caused a vaccum where the S/L community and even politicians themselves wanted in on this now vacant market. If you noticed, after the hanging of Chadee, nothing was done since to deal with the narco trade. Things got worse when internationally, the Columbian era ended and the Mexican era began where they have a "different" way of doing business. Locals who could not keep up with the change divested out of the narco trade and went on to form or continue legitimate businesses full time while those who kept up with the change continued and had to deal with new blood aka new competition in the marketplace. You can read books on the drug trade by UWI Lecturer, Darius Figueria. Abu Bakr have a lot of files on politicians plus he still have influence in many black communities, especially during election season hence why he's an "untouchable". The black family has been decimated by drugs and guns by "Mr Bigs", gangsta culture from the media, and welfare policies from Governments. Males don't know what it is to be a man and women are loosing their morality. Then you mix in that with a lack of personal responsibility and the enabling of victimhood.
mmmKyronmmm if you don't mind me asking, were you born after 1990? the mention of black communities and the UNC and PNM is quite unfair. Everyone in T&T has the equal opportunity to attend primary school & high school. in the past, there was the textbook rental, free pre school for all kids. The latter doesn't apply anymore. When you say uplift black communities what exactly or which communities are u referring to? Because areas like Laventille, Morvant, Beetham are all PNM constituencies and the PNM has been in govt longer than any other political party. These areas VOTED for their MP. I am aware that Laventille has an NESC & other vocational institutions. Did you know that in 2014-2016 NESC Laventille campus was receiving more financial allocation than any other NESC. In 2014, then govt opened NESC in Palo Seco which falls under the constituency of LA Brea & the NESC at Point Fortin was build and introduced by Bas specifically for the ALNG trains. so I don't agree with your statements of UNC & PNM not doing anything to uplift black youth. It's like insinuating that the residents or the black youth need to be spoon fed. They don't. They're intelligent & can make use of opportunities that the kids in Penal have. The people need to decide whom they want to represent them to assist in goods and services delivery to their area. Remember it is society who elects these politicians and we are the people who make up the society
Hello Rae, I was born before 1990. I agree with you that everyone has the opportunity to attend primary and secondary school. The problem is that the education system needs a total overhaul. We have an increasing number of teachers who don't care about the students. We have divisions with the secondary schools among Prestige, Composite/Comprehensive and Junior Secondary. The bright students (sometimes parents pay money) go to the prestige schools while the "not so bright" or "do a trade" student goes Junior Sec... and that sows the seeds of division. We also have students that have high IQ but very poor EQ (EI) who crash in their 20's or 30's. Some of the work in school are not applicable in real life. Anybody teaches a secondary school student about financial education? Do we still study Marco Polo and European history but choose to ignore African and Indian studies except slavery and indentureship? Are teachers trained to identify students who suffer from abuse at home? Yes, the areas you mentioned voted for the PNM and that is the sad part. The PNM party does not need to work for their vote because of racial and blind loyalty, therefore these said areas have been taken for granted. I am glad about the NESC and other vocational institutions but that does not deal with the elephant in the room. There are drugs and guns being pushed into these communities, there is the praising of gangsta culture, and then we have the "gimme gimme" welfare programs that are really there not to necessarily help the people, but to keep them on state dependence and to have them content. These issues is where our resources needs to be targeted. If you tackle the drug trade head on by getting the drugs and guns out, rejecting gangsta culture, bring back the family model and the reduction of welfare programs where you teach people "how to fish" instead, you will see more black youths becoming productive members of society. I am not into spoon-feeding but attention is needed in specific areas and what I outlined above will help immensely. By tackling these issues, the success rate of money spent on vocational colleges, sports, NGOs, etc will show. I am not saying that the PNM and UNC did zero to help black youths. I am saying that they are not addressing the REAL issues that are plaguing the black communities because doing so will upset their financiers who are in the narco-trade, and it will also create independent thinkers who will demand value for their vote. I agree that the people need to decide, but then your political choices are the lesser of the two evils? Or you try to vote out one party where the other wins by default?
Trinidad is nice as a tourist but in the Ghetto its ruff.......People join groups to feel wanted or to go against the Government, but really they have been recruited by USA.

For a lack of knowledge my HEBREW ISRAELITES brothers and sisters are destroyed doing the bidding of those enemies who conquered and converted your ancestors. What was happening was the fact that these people were getting rid of the competition so that they themselves could control the street life. They brought people from Syria to go to the people in their comunities and spread their doctrine. There are very dangerous people in Trinidad and we haven't touched the Syrian hierarchy which is also cause for concern.
This is my first time hearing that Busy Corner is a hot spot for trouble. This is pretty superficial. While at certain points they say it is not straightforward, the video does not do much to highlight the complexity of the issue or the complex religious, racial, political society that Trinidad and Tobago is. The cross section of people they interviewed was very skewed and don't get me started on that shitong Griffith. The man couldn't even handle the Ministry of Security job and have no f'ing clue as to what the real problems in T&T are. Watching these videos when it's of your own country makes you question the accuracy and depth of pieces done in other countries.
not a war....anything of god is peace n love.... me personally i think they scared of the reality of trinidad..take it to the enemy in the beetham ok....😂😂😂😂that is just a bus route maxi away...y allyuh going in syria for?

You all must know -- there are many Caribbean but more importantly Trinidadian journalists who in fact work for Al Jazeera who should have been given this assignment. I'm absolutely appalled. @ 2:48 in I've stopped and refuse to watch more. I've got the gist it at this point. What more can she offer than generic media report rhetoric. Boooooorrrrrriiiiinggggg
Reportage lmao. These comments are what happens when ignorant people start using computers. She did a great job IMO. Journalism in Trinidad is a fkn joke.
Sherard E Yes. It only got worse from there. At the very least, they should at least have consulted some Trinis to understand the true dynamics of the country and how this issue stands among the wider society. If they did consult any Trinidadians, it was those with their own agenda. Almost felt like an excuse to come to T&T for Carnival on work time and work budget and not a report with strong research on the country that they're going to do a piece on.
Sherard E You are foolish for saying that. Trinidad journalists are so corrupt they don't even put real local news out there. Trinidad is an English speaking country and yet 90% of them cannot pronounce English words correctly. This women is a great reporter for this story. Her accent is British.
Notice that they behave like this in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Dublin, Ireland, Barcelona, Paris, Nigeria, America, Belgium, Denmark....everywhere they go it's the same ussue.
The Jamaat members in this video look to be beyond saving and completely unrepentant, the Boo’s Settlement imam was lying through his teeth. God help anyone who comes into contact with these people, they seem to be highly dangerous, hopefully moderate Islam will win the day in Trinidad.

One thing you have to give credit to ISIL/ISIS/IS/Daesh is their propaganda production is spot on. Much more better and sophisticated than Al Qaeda.
