It's 2021, I still love this song, and at age 53 I still sing this at the top of my lungs in the car, just like I did when I saw them in concert so many times in the 80s.
I don't know how popular these guys were in their own country, but they were all the rage in the Southeastern U.S. college music scene in the late 1980s.
These guys were just so damn good. "Blow Your Cool" is one of those rare albums where EVERY SONG ROCKS!! I've been singing along and rocking out to these songs for longer than I care to remember...and I still do to this day. Peace.
The trouble with this RUclips thing/place is you search and then pick a good track and play it. Then as you sing along your eyes wander to the Up Next list and no, another great track catches your eye, even better so you abandon the current offering and move on only to again allow your eyes to wander over to the Up Next list and its happening again, shit I have not listened to that for years. I ended up here after doing a search for Richard Clapton, Deep Water. We are so spoiled now days. Thank you, You Tube, and a big warm thank you contributes.
ookland81 get on your u tube, and play what ever pleases and makes you happy in the mood and groove and guess what it travels across the earth and you can even have a mad conversation with others,
im a 43 yre old gal living in america and bands like the hoodoos get me thru.lol love this song...cant believe its 30 yrs old...awesome song and awesome vid and the lead singer has a beatiful voice and looks freakishly like brian brown an aussie actor.
i heard this band (all their lp's) in the 80's, from Italy where i live, and also the Church and other faboulos bands from Australia......what times.......
I FEEL VERY SORRY FOR YOU. THESE PROSTITUTES ARE NOT REALLY FROM AUSTRALIA. THEY ARE PRETENDING. LISTEN TO THE SONG. LIKE JESUS, THEY GET IN WHERE THEY FIT IN. I TOLD JESUS IT WAS STANDING ROOM ONLY.
OH..MY..god!I have not seen this (or heard this song)in 22 years!!the last time i tried to find the video on youtube nothing came up.Bless whoever posted it because now i remember the name of the album and i can order it since it's now out of print.
Two of my best friends and I drove from Alabama to Atlanta to see Hoodoo Gurus play at Six Flags back in around 1987. They were opening up for The Bangles. We drove 100 mph and hot there late and ran throughout the park . We heard them say "Good night" and then listen to 1 song by The Bangles and then drove 2 1/2 hours home. It sucked but I won't forget that trip.
Great song, it reminds me of a time now long gone, of myself and my girlfriend Siobhan dancing around the sun room in our house to that so catchy chorus, nostalgia's a strange thing, and a lovely thing
So much great guitar-driven pop coming from the Anglo countries in those days. This one brings me back. Remember buying the vinyl back then. Love this tune
Half the members of Crowded House where Australian, and they formed in Melbourne, when every member was living in Aus and had been for some time. In my book, that makes them an Australian band.
Grew up with this song on an album labelled '1986 Right on track' when I was 15 or so .... then, just last night, now being 47, I went to a local karaoke bar and wanted to do a 'party song' .... saw this and hit it. SUCH a good song about the disconnect of understanding between what you 'want' to be and what society 'expects' you to be. Clever lyric and catchy like the plague. Rock on, Gurus !
I remember The Hoodoo Gurus filling the Bay. Last time they played Warrnambool (sports stadium) they couldn't give tickets away. Well, okay I got given some, but can't have been more than 50 people there. Live music in Warrnambool is on life support.
Excellent band, one of the best Aussie acts ever and yes, I agree, good comedians too. They never took themselves too seriously. They have extremely good taste in guitars, too. The Gurus are great.Plain and simple.
So happy Brazil took to these guys . As per usual the record executives in the USA had know idea about Aussie rock from the 80's, which just happened to be amongst the best in the world during that time. These guys along with countless others should have been way bigger throughout the world , but hey it all stemmed from the know f-all music geniuses that were masquerading as decision makers from up in the northern hemisphere.
The Hoodoo's were an excellent band and one of my favorites. Unique and fun. Saw them in concert when they came to Atlanta. Glad to see they got back together down under.
I grew up with the Gurus and I don't care if just a few did the same in my country, italy. I like new music from new bands but i'll always love their incredible songs..
I remember listening to this song while at Newcastle beach with mates and hot chips and cans of coke ☺️ it was the life of a teenager, to have those memories again 🇦🇺
the hoodoo gurus bring me flashbacks of watching surf videos with my friends while smoking joints during high school...*tear*, why did i have to grow up?
What a great driving song I feel as if I was born in the wrong decade, why can't we have awesome music like this now a days The two most beautiful words in the English language: Skip Ad.
The UFO Experience they still do, it’s just tickets to real new bands are cheap and no one goes to watch them. For some more new Aussie rock look up the Lazys, Ablaze, Electric Mary and while you’re at it have a listen to us #realmusic
Man, I am so lucky to have grown up with this music.

Yeah the algorithm isn't always perfect - guess they focus more on trying to sell you stuff
The most under rated rock n roll band of their time. The best of Australia and their scene...
Nah Bra Acca Dacca

Great song, it reminds me of a time now long gone, of myself and my girlfriend Siobhan dancing around the sun room in our house to that so catchy chorus, nostalgia's a strange thing, and a lovely thing
i will never understand how they used "Come anytime" instead of this song for "Thank God You're Here". Baffles me!

Goosebumps! What a tight band!! greetings from a Guru fan from Italy!
Brilliant live band. I saw them in 1985 and 1989 in Liverpool UK. I remember them doing a great version of Galveston for the encore.

I absolutely agree. I've followed their entire career and Dave Faulkner, along with Neil Finn are the best of their era.

King tone, as always. One of my favorite tunes by this band.
