18 when this came out! Had a 68 charger for my first car and just out of high school ! Driving around with my girlfriend at the time and having a great time!! What memories , lots of great songs back then and your whole life in front of you! The girl and the car are gone but the songs are with me till the day I die !!!
I loved this song during its short life on the charts in 1980. This was back in the day when I would have to sit around the radio all day waiting for it to be played. I spent the next 17 years looking for a recording, to no avail. And then, miracle of miracles, it appeared in Boogie Nights. I stopped on the way home from the theater to pick it up at a record store. Now thanks to the web, I have a dozen remixes and other creative variations of this song delivered to my hard drive with but a the click of the mouse.
Love this gem, I was a kid when when it came out but I still remember my older pals playing it on 45's. Thank you for the memories!!! A hit for all ages!!
Just saw an interview with Paul Roberts, the band leader, who claimed that the song wasn't written as a driving song. It's a song about getting back "on your feet" after a breakup. Being the driver requires inner strength with the ability to look ahead. Now I know what he meant by the line "What can I do when I remember my time with you?"
Such an underrated tune, as once it's in your head, it ain't going anywhere. Knew a beautiful girl, much like this one, but she just wanted to be in the "Drivers Seat". Awesome tune and awesome girl...
The Woman ♀️ in the video Is ABSOLUTELY Beautiful!! 1978, when this tune dropped, I was 17 years old and I think about what I have been through since 2010 until now, brain surgery, resetting my nose, heart failure and recently lymphoma cancer and now approaching 63 in November, when most people who meet me now, can't even believe that I am older than 44!! I don't know how old that young lady is in the video, but she is Stunning! Love her eyes and smile!! Simply Captivating and Alluring!! 😅😅
@@wildman318 You can call me Sydopath 😇. I live in Scotland now, and happily retired. None of my new circle of friends know about my 15 minutes of fame. I love it that way.
I remember when I was a youngster driving for the first time listening to this song in my 1976 Montego MX AM radio 📻 great and Golden memories from the '70s best years that I have ever lived. 🎼🎶📻👍😃💜🎸🎸😉✌️🕺
Today I have listened to this song about 14 or 20 times, and I always listen to it in its entirety, I simply cannot stop it before the end. I would like it to continue for much longer! It has been reminding me of someone who is no longer on this existential plane. It doesn't make me sad, rather it strengthens me.
I recall driving my 70 Plymouth Duster 340 ci in 1979 with my GF from high school by my side. This song was playing on my car radio as we drove over a tall bridge. The window was down and the summer breeze was blowing through her hair as the sun glinted upon her pretty face. She was wearing a summer dress and looked so pretty. We didn’t work out, however we are still friends to this day. 🥰
That 340 was one powerful engine❤. I had one put in my, then, 1966 Plymouth Satilite !! Later had a 1970 Challenger which had a 340 in it. My brother had a 1970 Duster that had one in it. One powerful engine !! Thanks for sharing 👍!!

For the longest time I could not find this video anymore. So glad it’s back because I love the song. First heard a little piece of it in the movie “Boogie Nights” when the Colonel walks into the room. Did a little search and found it.
I first watched this version about 10 years ago. I watched it probably 20 times over the next several years but then it disappeared. Finally I found it today. This is the best version. Great video and love the girl. Thanks for posting this.

Great video. I had this song on many mix cassettes I made. I played one favorite tape so many times that I can never hear the outro of “Driver’s Seat” without hearing the intro of the next song on the tape, LA Woman. Thanks for the great memory. Love it.

Most top 40ish songs used metaphors for that.
