I also repasted, and I practically got a 12c drop in temps overall on idle and load. The Lenovo forums are full of discussion on this and overall I think we blame the really poor stock thermal pad Lenovo used.
I have purchased this laptop and been using it for a couple of months now. You guys can ask further questions about the laptop and I'll be more than happy to help.
@@infinitytorch the speakers are not so loud right. Can we happily live with it? Looks like 250 nits and 300nits panel have different sRGB figure do they? Is the 250 nits panel that bad?
@@shivamnayak8586 The speakers are indeed not very loud for normal usage, however I find that while using VLC player to play videos, I'm able to bump up the volume beyond 100% and still maintaining clear audio. I have no issues with speakers as I mostly stick to earphones or headphones. As to the 250nits panel, I can't say much about it as my maximum brightness goes up to 300nits. Although i find it hard to see in extremely harshly lit conditions which are not on the regular (Eg: Sun). I play a lot of CS:GO and I pretty much love the panel when playing games. Even for videos, the pleasure of the thin bezels is indescribable.
i like this laptop because it doesnt look like those "ultra red gaming" laptops on the market, i prefer a muted, clean and professional look while also decent when it comes to performance and thermals :) another type i like is the xiaomi gaming laptop, i love everything about it except the macro keys on the side... ugh anyway thanks a lot for this review! looking forward for CES commentaries
Skip this laptop I bought it and took it back the dell g7 on sale has a 1060 6 gig max q and better screen and color and battery and on sale or a deal isn’t much of difference price wise the touch pad is junk and you will not be happy with the colors on screen unless you like washed out colors that are not correct you can not use it on nothing but max brightness
One advice: If you are reviewing a laptop try to choose the most common model, which in this laptop's case is 1050 ti. Anyways great review as always. :)
Thanks. Usually with review units I get no say in the provided hardware, however given I bought this one with my own money, I bought the specs that I want, and that's a 1060 minimum 😊
Hello Jarrod, I just got Lenovo Y530 wtih gtx 1060, it's working great so far, Love the design a lot, it looks sexy, plus I've been following a lot of "gaming laptop" reviewers but none of them helped me to make a decision I'd be happy with, you're the best reviewer, Greetings and love from Saudi Arabia.
I'll do what I can, I don't have appointments with some companies as my Australian contacts weren't able to get the information for some reason. At this stage I have plans to visit MSI, Gigabyte and Dell. Hope I can find more while there.
I'm thinking about getting it to, can you tell me about the build quality, please? I'm concerned about that, beacause I'm going to have it in my backpack often...
@@user-gq3ld9xj2n hey, I am thinking of buying this laptop too but i heard the battery life is shit. Can you tell me about your experience with battery life.
Really appreciate these comprehensive non-generic reviews that seem to be everywhere. It is great to get some information about overclocking, undervolting , etc. It would be really nice if you could test displays above their rated frequency too. I know its ymmv with each panel and shit but I think it would be a good test. I am considering buying the x360 oled when it comes out and really hope it has a reasonable refresh rate.
Remember when gaming on a laptop was a pipe dream? I can play Diablo 2 on my surface pro like it’s minesweeper , back in the day this was impossible now we have awesome laptops at affordable prices to play awesome games where ever we want it’s truely a great time for gaming and travel lifestyle.
haha yeah I know what you mean, I still get comments on RTX 2070 laptops of people saying "gaming laptops aren't a thing it can't play games" uhh ok, it can handle any modern game just fine but sure 😅
ive been using this since sept of 2018, up to now im satisfied. playing gta5, assasins creed origin, tomb raider, picture and video editing. this is best cheap gaming laptop good for students like me.
Only thing I do not understand why they continue to put hard drive in gaming laptops. if they do put a SSD it is 256 gigs which is not enough. A 1tb SSD should be standard for the money they ask for gaming laptops.
In this instance I picked the drives, and given i only bought it to make some videos with I didn't spend more to get more 😛 that's said personally I think 256gb and 1tb HDD for games is a good sweet spot - then again I have 1.5tb of nvme SSD space in my personal laptop 🤔
I'd have to buy it like I bought this one, as much as I'd like to it's pretty expensive to buy them just for review 😛 hopefully I can get in contact with Lenovo and get review units, up until now they haven't responded to me.
I got one also, just make sure you dont enter any code in cmd unless you know what your doing. I thought I would be smart and clean all the stuff out of quick start... and proceeded to delete a bunch of drivers and apps, which sucked to replace.
Bought this epic laptop last year on 11th of November. Never regretted since then. Mine has the i7-8750H, 8gb of ram, 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD, GTX 1050Ti and 1080p FHD with 144Hz .
How to buy a gaming laptop....It should have enough RGB to make your normie friend vomit at the spot. That's how you know its Gaming grade material. Nice review Jarrod. No opinions ....no Biased review....pure facts...just pure FACTS!. I want you to Clap twice saying "LAPTOP REVIEW" at the start of every video.... That would be very cool.
I bought this laptop six months ago and ı really like it. I recommend everybody looking for a Gaming laptop buy it. Besides, it's weight is light compared to other gaming laptops so you can travel easily with this laptop.
@GeneXiS_X hi, wich one you think its better, asus tuf 504gm, lenovo y530, acer nitro 5 or Dell g3. Btw its kind interesting how i have already read you in nearly 3 forums about mid range laptops. :D
Unfortunately that's one aspect I'm not able to cover in my laptop reviews because I have an old access point that's only capable of 802.11n, I'm going to upgrade this soon when 802.11ax is standardized then I will include WiFi tests in my video, but yeah for now I cannot say how well it does.
Thanks very much for the great, in depth review. After some time, I bought this laptop (i7 with 1050, 16gb RAM) for uni. Couldn't get a 1050ti model because they didnt have it in retail and i cant really do online purchases.
Hi Jarrod, Would it be possible to add an extra thermal test, with the laptops raised a bit ? Around 2 cm in the intake area (water bottle caps at the back seem to be a super cheap way to do it, and give quite a nice angle). Results with a cooling pad would be interesting too, but there's more variation with that due to availability and construction I'd guess. As usual, great review and many thanks for your efforts and consistency. You're the "go to" for laptop reviews.
Cheers! I was meant to be adding cooling pad results to the thermal tests but I've just forgotten to do it for the last few, with mine the fans don't do all that much but I guess I could test with fans off too, I might do a video where I replace the paste on this laptop to see if it helps so will consider doing that then
I purchased this laptop about a week ago... I got the i7-8750H (i7+ with 16GB Optane) and GTX 1050 Ti version. Overall experience is very nice considering its unique design although the fan can get very noisy but it's not a dealbreaker for me since I mostly use earphone. Good job Lenovo!
Yeah fyi all version of Y530 in Indonesia is i5+ and i7+ (the sticker also not like the original Intel Core i 8th gen sticker but with +), all bundled with Intel Optane out of the box😁😁
I been using this laptop for like 4-5 years now and I really like it a lot. The only problem after 4 years of CONSTANT USAGE is that the battery. Or maybe the connector to the battery or the charger it-self. Sometimes the battery doesn't charge to a full 100% and stays at 85% also now I noticed that the battery is not even charging. Beside that THIS LAPTOP WAS OP AND to get a gaming laptop for 700 eur. was the best thing. Edit: I am using I5 8 Gen processor
Thanks Jarrod for another great review. I have been looking for a replacement for my Y580 and this is in my shortlist, though I'm not too sure about Lenovo due to the Superfish controversy a few years back. What are your thoughts on that?
Hmm yeah that was pretty dodgy, definitely did not like that .. if I recall happened before I was really making laptop reviews but I work in security so pretty familiar. Worth waiting a few days to see what new laptops come out of CES I think
Hi Jarod, your channel is amazing. Thanks for sharing these reviews. I bought this laptop few days ago and it is working very well, the only "but" that it has is, it didn't come with HDD so I bought a HDD 1 TB to install it, but I don't have the cable to connect it to the mainboard. Do you know where I can find it ? Seems like the laptop that you're reviewing in this video, isn't have HDD too (when you show the inside components, there's no HDD). Regards
Thank you! I'm pretty sure I had one in the box, I remember thinking "oh it's good they included that", I can't check at the moment as I'm somewhere between the US and Australia on a plane back from CES 😆
@@JarrodsTech I found it on Ebay, i was to check the box again, but nothing was inside :( . I sent a message already to the company where I bought it. Thanks for your comment and the quickly answer! Regards.
@@JarrodsTech Exactly, they just answer to me that this unit doesn't have the cable :(. Any suggestion of a place that I can find that cable in australia?
Thanks a lot! Planning to buy this laptop within a few days. Though I'm a musician and a bit of photographer, not a gamer at all, I just couldn't find a decent laptop with good CPU, DIsplay and Design for a good price. And Legion fits perfectly. Unfortunately now I've got only one option available with i5-8300H, 8 GB DDR4, 1TB 7200 RPM + 128 NVMe SSD and GTX 1050 4 GB. But for a non-gamer it would be fine, I think.
Yeah those specs should be fine for what you're after 👍 just watch out when buying as there are a few different screen options, there is one with lower brightness and lower colour gamut, so for what you're doing worth getting the brighter/higher quality one.
Thanks for the video mate! Really looking forward to receiving my Y530. Considering repasting it if it turns out to run hot, but I am a bit worried as I have never repasted a laptop before, not to mention I could not find any video guide on repasting the Y530 specifically.
Many thanks for that helpfull review. So the screen is significant better than the one of the Acer Helios 300 (brightness, color accuracy), right? Here in Europe, they both cost about the same, when sped'ed similar.
Just bought a Y530 with the I7-8750H and GTX 1060 yesterday, can't wait. Planning to game on it and use Siemens NX. I'm just not willing to pay top dollar for a workstation with a Quadro or RPro which are massively overpriced and offer poor gaming capabilities. I read that, although not ISV certified, this configuration should be able to handle quite a workload. It's for school so the drawings won't be very intense, no oil refinery or weather simulations for example. Could you back that up? P.s. It would be delivered today but it was delayed by a day, I hate shipping companies now.
Nice! I haven't used apps that really need ISV before so can't really say, but I can say the i7-8750H and 1060 are a good combination for many tasks, even outside of gaming.
Thanks! To be honest I'm unlikely to buy it, I had to buy this one because I haven't been able to get in contact with Lenovo to borrow and review units, hopefully that changes as the channel grows
NOTE TO EVERYONE THAT WILL BE BUYING THE Y530/Y540 Please try to lift the back end up slightly I realize the the vents are too close to the table top. Hence why many of y’all are experience throttling. I lifted mine up with pennies and it stays cool under load. Could also be build quality but give it a try. If it doesn’t work get a cooling pad. I am using a cooling pad just in case but have tested without it. I play warface, warframe, world of tanks, war thunder etc. I’m loving this laptop. Pity I couldn’t wait for the Y540 but I’m guessing that will get very hot.
Thanks for sharing your experience, I'm going to be replacing the paste on mine in a future video to see if it helps improve temperatures, once I'm back from CES and recovered!
Ah yeah, that would definitely make a difference too. I have a few ASUS videos on the way, and one from Gigabyte, maybe a coupe of miscellaneous ones. I'm on my flight home back to Australia right now, so might be a little bit before any more will be up. I have a surprise video ready to publish but we'll see 😉
Hey Jarrod, listen www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-y-series/Lenovo-Legion-Y530-15ICH/p/88GMY501020 Y530 is out there for 929$ with a 1060.Should go for it? Is your laptop working fine? I wanted a 144hz but that is not available.Or should I wait for the 2060 benchmarks and go for the 2060 one? Please tell me what to do.
That sounds like a pretty good deal, yeah working fine. 1060 is pretty good, depends whether you think you'd want more - from what I've seen though the Y540 with 2060 costs a fair bit more money though, at least here in Australia.
Just bought it about a week ago. Chose it over the Asus FX505 due to the great design of the laptop that is muted and professional looking. Got it for around 947$ for the i5 with 1050Ti with added 256 Adata SX8200 Pro NVMe SSD. Definitely lives up to my expectation.
I got a great deal on this laptop last year, got it for around 550$, did a self upgrade and increased the RAM for under 30$ (very easy to do), gonna get an nvme SSD soon.... Runs most games at 1080 with high to very high graphics very easily..... If you already own this laptop, id recommend you tk upgrade the ram, I bought it with only 8gigs, now I'm running dual channel 16. It's a pretty inexpensive upgrade for a good bump in performance. An SSD just for the OS is also recommended.
@@d.lutmygmar it's not bad, the gpu stays around the 65° mark while I game. And the ambient room temperature is already around 35. I've also upgraded the SSD like I said. It's now running really well. (Note: my gaming mostly comprises of Counter Strike, Valorant, a bit of GTA5....all running at 1080 60.)
I presume that my comment will get drowned in the sea of comments here, but here goes: How did you get these framerates? I'm sorry but you seem to be the only reviewer that got these framerates at such high settings. For example, your video is the only one where I've seen an average of 61fps on ultra settings for the Witcher 3. How is that even possible for this rig? I'm on the fence about buying this laptop buy I can't seem to find any other review that got these high framerates.
Hey Jarrod, I got mine before the end of the year.. And specs are i7 8750h ,single 8Gb 2666hz ram stick, Gtx 1050ti, first the performance of the cpu is phenomenal like in cinebench R15 i got 163 on single, and 1235 on multi task And the thermals during this test are 90-95 Celsius on stock settings and 85-88 on UV of -.135 , the major issue for me is while playing new games like Forza Horizon 4 which is using so much of the RAM exceed to 97% and that caused major shuttering while playjng and by looking to the clock speeds it's average of 3.55 while gaming, so another game tested is Wolfenstien 2, on high settings i got average Fps of 55-60 which so nice and smooth, the other factor of this unit that is coming with 5400rpm 1Tb HDD Seagate which is killing the machine speeds since i didnt upgrade it with M.2 SSD for boot drive. Overall build quality is nice and minimalist Sound quality is not bad and not loud but its rich in tone. **And while doing the UV thing i saw a current limit throttle taking place in some tests and Im worried about that in further future use, Btw the power adapter is 135w only,
Great video Jarrod, Did you happen to check PCH temps? My Lenovo Y7000 while gaming PCH temps easy climbs to 87C after latest BIOS update, (81C before that update) which sometimes exceed the CPU temps itself as I've undervolted and my cpu temps stables around 80C, first i though I got a bad lemon but I've checked another unit and got same hot temps, i dont know even if it is safe, what do you think about it?
Thanks! I have screenshots of HWInfo from when I ran the tests but doesn't look like those are included. To be honest I've never really monitored them so I don't know what is/isn't good for that.
Thanks to your review , I had decided to get this instead of asus tuf fx505 . i get it around $809 in Cambodia. My spec: I5-8300H Ram 8g 128B PCle , 1TB GTX 1050i 4Gb
Thanks for your professional review , now i have a question : Is there any difference between the numbers(NTSC, srgb , Adobe rgb) you said about 300nit , 60Hz screen and the 250nit ,60Hz screen??? And if there is , how much? Because in my region only 2 config are available 300nit , 144Hz 250nit, 60Hz
I think I replied to this on Twitter. Yes there will be differences, by how much I cannot say as I haven't tested both, but basically the 300 nit panel should look better in all regards.
Thanks for the review! I'm not a gamer but consider a purchase for effectively handling multi-tasking and the use of resource-intensive business software (data visualization like Tableau, programming, running solvers, etc.). I also need to run multiple instances of an Android emulator (NOX). I'm always on the go but need something powerful and fast. Would that be a decent choice? thanks again, appreciated
No problem! Should do well, you could go the i7-8750H model if you want more power, I used to run multiple VMs and some android emulation stuff on my old 6700HQ machine, so an 8300H should go alright too.
yo dude, im hoping the repasting video will coming out soon. my y530 gets hot while gaming... huhu (i58300h, gtx 1050ti 4gb) other than that. it is a nice laptpp. purchased according to your review. peace!🤗
It's still on the to do list, haven't forgotten! Just need more time, been really busy with the new RTX laptops. I've actually quit my job so should have a whole lot of time coming up to work through the videos 😅
Hey Jarrod I am confused between lenovo Y530 and Asus rog gl503ge. Please tell me which one should i buy. Though Asus rog is cheaper here with same specifications as lenovo y530 and Asus have RGB lights +256gb ssd (greater than lenovo) and 120Hz display too. I have seen the reviews that the colour accuracy of asus is way greater than lenovo y530. Lenovo has poor colour accuracy. So please tell me what do you think, should I go to the asus rog gl503ge, or its having any problem??
The Y530 is available with 3 different screen options from what I remember, 60Hz, and two 144Hz options at 300 nits and 400 nits brightness, so I'd expect the colours differ between the different models. I've only had one though so cannot say how the others go. Likewise unfortunately I also have no experience with the gl503ge so I can't compare them too much. Personally I like the more professional look of the Y530 but that's just me. Depending on the specs, the 120Hz screen in the ASUS may be beneficial if you play games that can utilize it.
Thank you for the nice review! (as always) I'm deciding now to buy one of the variants like Lenovo Y530, Dell G5 5587 or the earlier 5577 with 1060 Max-Q graphics, Asus FX504GE or Asus FX504GM with 1060 (6Gb) graphics. How about a comparison video between this Lenovo and Dell G5 that you own? And I would very like to know, which one from the laptops mentioned above do you prefer in case of the same specs? Which did you like the most from these ones? And guys, if you have one of them, please share your experience and maybe some disadvantages of the laptop you own, will be very appreciate!
No problem! I'd pick anything over the FX504, remove that from consideration, check my full review if you want to see the problems I had with it. Out of those I'd probably go the Y530, as for G5 I don't own one myself the review unit was returned a while back so not sure if the data I have on it is still up to date enough to do a dedicated comparison video. I'd prefer the Y530 out of those though, well I guess depends because my Y530 has 1060 graphics and I think 1050 Ti is more common elsewhere.
@@JarrodsTech thanks for the answer! Why would you pick Y530 over the G5? As I remember, the thermals of GPU&CPU are cooler on G5 than on Y530, as I can see from your reviews on these laptops. It's bothering me regarding Y530, because average 93 C on CPU in gaming and stress tests - it's hot! (here should be "Oh, that's hot!" meme with Will Smith from RUclips Rewind :D) So I'm very interested in your opinion about the things that are better on Y530 compared to G5!
And yep, you're right about 1050 Ti as a more common card for these models. On my market (Ukraine) there are NO models of Y530 with 1060 card at all! And G5 with 1060 is only presented in the "top" configuratiom, with i7 processor (which is quite expensive for me), so no possibility to buy G5 with i5 + 1060. So, when I will buy one of these laptops, I would go with i5 or i7 + 1050 Ti, because there is no other choise. Well, there is a G5 5577 with i5 7th gen and 1060 (6 Gb) in Max-Q design, but I don't know will i5 7th gen be enough for me for programming and testing my apps or not...
Better screen on the Y530, looks better IMO (persona taste), probably lighter given the Dell is all metal (haven't checked), G5 has Max-Q graphics so my Y530 would be about 10% better G5 is alright though I'd just go Y530 myself if I was picking.
@@JarrodsTech yeah, it's definitely lighter than G5 (2.3kg vs 2.61kg without charger). And I believe you that screen quality on Y530 is better. Thanks for detailed answers!
I got my y530 on black friday with i7 8750h and 1050ti, 8gb ram and 2tb hdd I payed a really good price for it around 900e which is a great deal in europe... I dont have such high cpu temps, but I am interested in OC my gpu because it runs so cool.
Hi Jarrod, I currently have the Alienware 13 R3 but was thinking of selling it to get a laptop with a larger screen because I mainly play world of Warcraft and star wars the old republic (basically MMO) and with all the UI elements on screen it becomes a problem for me on a 13" screen. I was looking at the y530 but am worried about those temps... My AW13 rarely reaches 80c after playing World of Warcraft for 2 or 3 hours. How would this laptop fair in that playtime? I'd imagine it would thermal Throttle... So how noticable would that be? In addition, do you think the y530 is louder than the AW13 while gaming ? Thanks for the great content Jarrod!
Thanks! Even with the throttle I'd expect the 8300h to outperform the 7700hq, it's not that much to worry about, many people in the comments have also said it seems to vary and some don't get that hot. If you mostly use your laptop at home to play games you could also look at getting a larger monitor and just connecting that when you want to play games, 15" isn't too much bigger than 13"
Got the i7/1050 ti version from Best Buy for $780. Really liking it so far. I didn't really get it for gaming as I have a rig for that. I got it because most laptops at the price range I was looking at had a BS i5 (8250U/8265U) or i7 (8565U) and I was going to have to stick an SSD and memory in after purchase anyway, so the price mark was the same to get a proper i7 (8750H). I'll eventually replace the optane with a pcie ssd, but it's performed well so far.
I have the same laptop but with the i7, my temperatures doesn’t go higher than 75 both cpu and gpu, didn’t undervolt or repaste yet, it’s a great laptop, i was hesitating when i bought it but it’s really a great laptop in all aspect for me until now.
Yeah some others mentioned similar with the i7 one so not sure why mine is so hot, assuming of course you're running the same stress test as me for at least 30 mins. Might do a video changing the paste in future
Ah nose cam, we meet again! LOL! Next time you are playing Assassin's Creed - Odyssey, press the F1 key. 1 press will bring up a frame counter, and the next press removes it. But press it again, and there is a much more extensive display including real time frame delivery times from the CPU as well as the GPU, and more. I found it quite by accident, but glad I did. Just something you might find handy. I don't know if this feature was in Origins, or in other UbiSoft titles, as I don't have any more installed right now. Excellent work as always Jarrod! Have a great day!
I was wondering if you'd notice nose cam 😎 yeah I usually turn that off for the video as it's a bit small anyway and just record the data with external tools
Hi Jarrod ! There are rumors there will be Y530 version with GTX 1160 card. How do you think, is it worth to wait a while or get GTX 1060 version instead ?
I haven't compared 1660 against 1060 myself yet, and who knows how much difference there would be laptop side. If you don't need something right now I'd wait and see, given 1060 is already over 2 years old now, however with that said it is still quite decent.
The specs are good, hard to say about price as I don't know what stuff generally costs where you are, but it will run well. Do you know if the memory is 1x 8gb stick (single channel) or 2x 4gb sticks (dual channel)? Dual channel will increase performance by up to 30% in games so it is worth investigating, I have a video on that here: ruclips.net/video/E_aPaj5QkmM/видео.html
@@JarrodsTech I'm assuming its 1 x 8GB, but I'm planning to get another 8GB either way. Or is it worth saving up to get the Scar II RTX 2060 version priced at $2000 here.
So I got this laptop with the 1050ti around April. It's a good laptop, however there's two things I don't like, one is the backlight bleed which is annoying, but the biggest issue I've had is the WiFi card. I was genuinely disappointed with Lenovo on that
Hey Jarrod, I have the exact same configurations as you except for 8gb ram and I cant seem to hit 190 fps average as stated in your video in fortnite even on low I get around 140-160 on average ,would getting another 8gb ram help or could it be due to the season 8 update in the game?
So it's a single 8gb stick? In that case yes, single channel memory will perform lower than dual channel (2x sticks the same size). I have a video showing the difference between single and dual channel memory in this video, and I included Fortnite testing, so you can see the improvement you get by having two sticks: ruclips.net/video/E_aPaj5QkmM/видео.html
hey Jarrod, will you review MSI GE75 raider, by any chance? I'm considering buying it, but I want to wait for all round reviews so I know the color gamut and performance
I saw it briefly at PAX Australia and have been asking for it ever since, no ETA on when I'll get one to review, but currently headed to CES and will be checking out MSI so maybe I can find out
Hello. I am very puzzled. I cant decide this should I buy or the Dell G5. Specs are the same, I am most interested in the reliability and formality. Even I heard so much complaint to the Y530, that build quality ( I mean the mounting ) are not so good. And more Y530 sent back to the service than Dell G5. What are you opinion about that? And I also heard that the Dell support is much better. Thank you for your answer in advance !
With the same specs expect very similar performance, personally I prefer the design of the Y530 myself (at least comparing to the 2018 G5, I haven't used the 2019 G5 with RTX graphics yet). I prefer the thinner bezels, the 2018 G5 is chunky. Why were Y530s sent back to the service center? How do you know more were sent back than the G5? I feel like there's no way to know unless you knew people that worked at both companies. I've never had to deal with support, it's not something I can usually test with review units so I can't comment there.
@@JarrodsTech Hello. Thanks for the feedback. But performance is second case for me. Outlook is much important and trust. I am afraid of poor lenovo customer support :( dell is much better right? I mean the service backround.
jarrod tech wich laptop should i choose : 1- asus gl502vm gtx 1060 3gb i7 7700k 12gb ram 2.8 up to 3.8 2- lenovo legion y530 gtx 1050 ti i7 8750h 16gb ram 2.8 up to 4.1 wich laptop give me more fps ? i don t know what to choose plz help me thanks😄
7700k seems wrong, did you mean 7700hq? For games the 1060 would probably give more improvements despite the lower CPU. I have videos comparing both on the channel though. 7700hq vs 8750h: ruclips.net/video/0-reYKQupls/видео.html 1050 Ti vs 1060: ruclips.net/video/SZGwkB6Fh_8/видео.html
To be honest I hadn't heard of it, but yeah seems like they killed them off - that said I am going to a gigabyte / aorus event tomorrow and they'll be talking about new laptops there so look out for that!
Hey jarrod, Please help me I am very confused between lenovo Y530 ( 1050ti, 16gb,128gb ssd, 1TB, 60Hz screen) only available VS HP OMEN (1050ti, 16 gb, 128 ssd, 1Tb, 144 Hz screen + RGB Lights) thought HP one is a bit costly but what do you think about it 144 Hz screen and RGB lights is a deal maker??? And and I am worried about HP omen's heat issues.
RGB is personal preference so that's up to you, I haven't tested any HP stuff either unfortunately so I don't really know how well they perform, I've been trying to get in contact with them for a while now but haven't had any luck getting any replies. As for the 144Hz screen with 1050 Ti, I answered your other comment with: It depends on the games you play and the settings you use. For many games, I think the 1050 Ti is a bit low to make good use of 144Hz, however if you play less demanding titles like CS:GO/Overwatch/Fortnite then you'll be able to get high enough frame rates to make it worthwhile.
I ordered this laptop for black friday sale on lenovo australia website. my config is i7 8750h,16gb dual channel, 512gb nvme ssd,gtx 1060 and 144hz 300 nit display. total cost was 2150, but the sales person offered me 100 dollar discount and i got it for 2050 AUD. i like it so far and my idle temps 41 degrees. could you please let me which thermal paste can be applied for this laptop. i have acrctic silver 5 with me at the moment. are there any better thermal pastes than ac5? Great review by the way Jarrod and waiting for the cpu repasting video?
Cool, yeah I got mine on the same black Friday sale in Australia. That paste should be fine, no idea if it's better than what they already use though. I think the higher the conductivity rating the better, so something like kryonaut should be good, I might change the paste when I get back from CES in a week, the trip will delay things
I am a bit confused as to what the 1% Low means. Can someone enlighten me? I recently ordered the i7-8750H / 1060 ver of the laptop and am looking to see how it's performance can be improved. Great insightful review though. Thanks Jarrod
Yeah I think the combination is enough for most games still with good settings, 1060 is still a great pick and I haven't found the 4 cores to be limiting.
I ordered this model from Lenovo yesterday, but no one warned me about the abysmal delivery time. It said it would ship in 10-12 days but mine is not till the 21 and estimated delivery on the 28th of Jan.....seriously?
Tike lol I'm on the same boat, I ordered Jan 1 and it's estimated at Jan 16 for shipping, it's insane...When I ordered from Dell and HP it took like a week.
Thanks for comforting replies, I think Lenovo's system is slow af, I just got an email/update from google saying it ust got shipped today and will be delivered in 6 days, still pretty long at least it's not at the end of the month.
I've repasted the Y530 to improve temperatures here: ruclips.net/video/pzRfD5iYyRM/видео.html
I think you meant "reposted"
I also repasted, and I practically got a 12c drop in temps overall on idle and load. The Lenovo forums are full of discussion on this and overall I think we blame the really poor stock thermal pad Lenovo used.

@@infinitytorch the speakers are not so loud right. Can we happily live with it? Looks like 250 nits and 300nits panel have different sRGB figure do they? Is the 250 nits panel that bad?
@@infinitytorch how much did it cost
@@shivamnayak8586 The speakers are indeed not very loud for normal usage, however I find that while using VLC player to play videos, I'm able to bump up the volume beyond 100% and still maintaining clear audio. I have no issues with speakers as I mostly stick to earphones or headphones.
As to the 250nits panel, I can't say much about it as my maximum brightness goes up to 300nits. Although i find it hard to see in extremely harshly lit conditions which are not on the regular (Eg: Sun). I play a lot of CS:GO and I pretty much love the panel when playing games. Even for videos, the pleasure of the thin bezels is indescribable.
i like this laptop because it doesnt look like those "ultra red gaming" laptops on the market, i prefer a muted, clean and professional look while also decent when it comes to performance and thermals :)
another type i like is the xiaomi gaming laptop, i love everything about it except the macro keys on the side... ugh
anyway thanks a lot for this review! looking forward for CES commentaries
Yeah I know what you mean, I like how it looks too compared to many other classic "gaming laptops"
Mr. Marmot I know. I wish my laptop wasn’t edgy. Still amazing laptop with a 1060!!
That's exactly why I purchased the Y530. I loved it, but it got stolen ! I guess a lot of people liked it 🤧

@@JarrodsTech oh it did ❤️😊
Skip this laptop I bought it and took it back the dell g7 on sale has a 1060 6 gig max q and better screen and color and battery and on sale or a deal isn’t much of difference price wise the touch pad is junk and you will not be happy with the colors on screen unless you like washed out colors that are not correct you can not use it on nothing but max brightness

Really appreciate these comprehensive non-generic reviews that seem to be everywhere. It is great to get some information about overclocking, undervolting , etc. It would be really nice if you could test displays above their rated frequency too. Only thing I do not understand why they continue to put hard drive in gaming laptops. if they do put a SSD it is 256 gigs which is not enough. A 1tb SSD should be standard for the money they ask for gaming laptops.
In this instance I picked the drives, and given i only bought it to make some videos with I didn't spend more to get more 😛 that's said personally I think 256gb and 1tb HDD for games is a good sweet spot - then again I have 1.5tb of nvme SSD space in my personal laptop 🤔
it would be nice to have teo nvme slots and more battery.

Hi Jarrod,
Would it be possible to add an extra thermal test, with the laptops raised a bit ?

Thanks a lot! Planning to buy this laptop within a few days. Though I'm a musician and a bit of photographer, not a gamer at all, I just couldn't find a decent laptop with good CPU, DIsplay and Design for a good price. And Legion fits perfectly.

Yeah for sure, at least this one, as mentioned there are three panels, I'm not sure how the lowest end 250 nit one stacks up
Just bought a Y530 with the I7-8750H and GTX 1060 yesterday, can't wait.
@@JarrodsTech I get that, thanks for the quick response and the great video! Keep up the good work!

Please try to lift the back end up slightly I realize the the vents are too close to the table top.

Nice! That's good to hear 👍
How was the thermals ?
@@d.lutmygmar it's not bad, the gpu stays around the 65° mark while I game. And the ambient room temperature is already around 35. I've also upgraded the SSD like I said. It's now running really well.
(Note: my gaming mostly comprises of Counter Strike, Valorant, a bit of GTA5....all running at 1080 60.)
I presume that my comment will get drowned in the sea of comments here, but here goes:
How did you get these framerates? I'm sorry but you seem to be the only reviewer that got these framerates at such high settings.
For example, your video is the only one where I've seen an average of 61fps on ultra settings for the Witcher 3.
How is that even possible for this rig?
I'm on the fence about buying this laptop buy I can't seem to find any other review that got these high framerates.
Hey Jarrod, I got mine before the end of the year..
And specs are i7 8750h ,single 8Gb 2666hz ram stick, Gtx 1050ti,
first the performance of the cpu is phenomenal like in cinebench R15 i got 163 on single, and 1235 on multi task
And the thermals during this test are 90-95 Celsius on stock settings and 85-88 on UV of -.135 , the major issue for me is while playing new games like Forza Horizon 4 which is using so much of the RAM exceed to 97% and that caused major shuttering while playjng and by looking to the clock speeds it's average of 3.55 while gaming, so another game tested is Wolfenstien 2, on high settings i got average Fps of 55-60 which so nice and smooth, the other factor of this unit that is coming with 5400rpm 1Tb HDD Seagate which is killing the machine speeds since i didnt upgrade it with M.2 SSD for boot drive.
Overall build quality is nice and minimalist
Sound quality is not bad and not loud but its rich in tone.
**And while doing the UV thing i saw a current limit throttle taking place in some tests and Im worried about that in further future use, Btw the power adapter is 135w only,
Sounds alright!

Thanks for your professional review , now i have a question :
Is there any difference between the numbers(NTSC, srgb , Adobe rgb) you said about 300nit , 60Hz screen and the 250nit ,60Hz screen???
And if there is , how much?
Because in my region only 2 config are available
300nit , 144Hz
250nit, 60Hz
I think I replied to this on Twitter. Yes there will be differences, by how much I cannot say as I haven't tested both, but basically the 300 nit panel should look better in all regards.
Do any of you guys have a problem with the bluetooth of this device? I am, If you got any helpful suggestions please tell me. Thanks.
I admit I have not tested it.
@@JarrodsTech thanks for your fast feedback, appreciated
yo dude, im hoping the repasting video will coming out soon. my y530 gets hot while gaming... huhu (i58300h, gtx 1050ti 4gb) other than that. it is a nice laptpp. purchased according to your review.
@@JarrodsTech thanks man, you are always a lifesaver 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for the nice review! (as always)
I'm deciding now to buy one of the variants like Lenovo Y530, Dell G5 5587 or the earlier 5577 with 1060 Max-Q graphics, Asus FX504GE or Asus FX504GM with 1060 (6Gb) graphics.
(here should be "Oh, that's hot!" meme with Will Smith from RUclips Rewind :D)
So I'm very interested in your opinion about the things that are better on Y530 compared to G5!
Nice! Yeah got mine on black Friday sale too 👌
Hi Jarrod, I currently have the Alienware 13 R3 but was thinking of selling it to get a laptop with a larger screen because I mainly play world of Warcraft and star wars the old republic (basically MMO) and with all the UI elements on screen it becomes a problem for me on a 13" screen.
If you mostly use your laptop at home to play games you could also look at getting a larger monitor and just connecting that when you want to play games, 15" isn't too much bigger than 13"
Nice review
Thanks!
I have a Y530 from 2008, it has a chassis that is 3 times as thick as this Y530, a discrete GPU with non-standard connector. It runs Ubuntu now.
Sounds like my 2008 laptop that's still kicking around here somewhere 😅
Got the i7/1050 ti version from Best Buy for $780. Really liking it so far. I didn't really get it for gaming as I have a rig for that. I got it because most laptops at the price range I was looking at had a BS i5 (8250U/8265U) or i7 (8565U) and I was going to have to stick an SSD and memory in after purchase anyway, so the price mark was the same to get a proper i7 (8750H).
I'll eventually replace the optane with a pcie ssd, but it's performed well so far.
Nice!
I have the same laptop but with the i7, my temperatures doesn’t go higher than 75 both cpu and gpu, didn’t undervolt or repaste yet, it’s a great laptop, i was hesitating when i bought it but it’s really a great laptop in all aspect for me until now.
Also for clearance i have the 1060 version, ask me anything you want for further help
Yeah some others mentioned similar with the i7 one so not sure why mine is so hot, assuming of course you're running the same stress test as me for at least 30 mins. Might do a video changing the paste in future
@@JarrodsTech I tested playing tte witcher 3 at ultra settings for an extended period, using msi afterburner
Is it worth it to buy the Y530 for these specs:
i7-8750H, GTX 1060, 1TB HDD, 8GB Ram, 144hz
Price: ~$1600 in my country :(
The specs are good, hard to say about price as I don't know what stuff generally costs where you are, but it will run well.
@@ThatOmadGuy 2060 is just a little behind the 1070 in my testing, so a nice boost to performance, but depends if you need that for $400 though.
Hey, did you buy legion?
Was this tested with 1060 ?? Please answer ..should i buy this with 1050 4gb will the performence have a lot of difference?
Yes I tested with a 1060, yes I would expect a fairly big difference between it and a 1050.
Should i buy it for 750$ with 1050ti 4gb and i5 8300h? For gaming and youtube
I saw it briefly at PAX Australia and have been asking for it ever since, no ETA on when I'll get one to review, but currently headed to CES and will be checking out MSI so maybe I can find out
@@JarrodsTech okay. thanks for the info!
Nice Videoo bro!!👍

How low would you want to go. Like 1050 graphics? I'll basically review anything it just depends on what I get sent

Hey Jarrod, do you know when will come RTX laptops come out?
I think there will be new laptop graphics at CES, I'm on my way there now to check some out
Would you still reccommend this laptop in 2021 for gaming
2024 I recommend I still use it
jarrod tech wich laptop should i choose :
1- asus gl502vm gtx 1060 3gb i7 7700k 12gb ram 2.8 up to 3.8
2- lenovo legion y530 gtx 1050 ti i7 8750h 16gb ram 2.8 up to 4.1
wich laptop give me more fps ?
i don t know what to choose plz help me thanks😄
7700k seems wrong, did you mean 7700hq? For games the 1060 would probably give more improvements despite the lower CPU. I have videos comparing both on the channel though.

will you ever do a review on the aorus x3?? i haven't seen any content on this laptop from anyone made in the last year, or is it discontinued?
To be honest I hadn't heard of it, but yeah seems like they killed them off - that said I am going to a gigabyte / aorus event tomorrow and they'll be talking about new laptops there so look out for that!
@@JarrodsTech thanks for the response!

I think with the processor it will be decent , although go for the i7 or check out the Y540
Would you think the thermals, performance etc be the same with the y7000? I just like the y7000’s design better
Perhaps, depends if the interior is different like bigger heat pipes etc hard to say without having seen it yet
Jarrod'sTech I always thought it was extremely similar internally just aesthetically it looks cooler. It’s a harder to get model though
@@alphagamma1289 As far as i've had mine, I haven't experienced any performance loss. At least yet. But it looks like a pretty solid laptop
Hey, Y530 or Dell G5? both i5 and gtx 1060. Which has better thermals and will last longer?
Y530
@@JarrodsTech thanks alooot man

I ordered this model from Lenovo yesterday, but no one warned me about the abysmal delivery time. It said it would ship in 10-12 days but mine is not till the 21 and estimated delivery on the 28th of Jan.....seriously?
Mine was about 10 days bit longer than I expected but I presume they assemble it based on what I picked on the site. Sounds a bit long 😓
Tike lol I'm on the same boat, I ordered Jan 1 and it's estimated at Jan 16 for shipping, it's insane...When I ordered from Dell and HP it took like a week.
I am thinking of picking up one my self I think the long waiting time is because the laptop is shipped from China
depends on if you choose one of the standard models or customize.
Thanks for comforting replies, I think Lenovo's system is slow af, I just got an email/update from google saying it ust got shipped today and will be delivered in 6 days, still pretty long at least it's not at the end of the month.
