people forget that DC plays so many different styles, and that one solo that might pertain to what style he is playing wont be anything like another solo during another style, and it that versatility that makes him so damn great
What makes Dennis such a great drummer is the way he can sit there and make the drums sing and sound musical. He's a great improviser and I've just always loved his style. It's his own and he doesn't go down the gospel chops route. He plays with passion and feel.
@@leongreene3025 I don't hear it as four different time signatures. His feet are in 4/4, and I think of his snare in 4/4 too: he's just playing quintuplets for every half note. The right hand on the ride is just playing that three note grouping at varying speeds. Don't get me wrong though, I love it.
Around 3:45 and on I can manage so don’t give up the practicing. Just don’t practice it in front of people because it’s gonna sound like a mess to the untrained hear 😂
he's definitely one of my favorite all time drummers first of all because he plays pearl and second because when he solos, he plays what people want to see and hear, fast, rhythmic, high energy drummin!
Wow! I'm not a fan of the styles of music that Chambers usually plays, but this is such a nice solo! His transitions between ideas flow so smoothly! The harder the idea is to play, the easier he makes it look, which is a form of mastery! And of course the dynamic range and expression of each rhythm, just great! At the end when he gets the quintuplets (lh) going against the marching band ostinato and jazz ride, SO slick (in a very nice way)! Great solo!
2:49 to + 10 seconds: anyone ales appreciate how friggin' amazing it is to play with those dynamics, that softly, AND with such speed? Unbelievable. 3:24 - 3:30: evidence that it's possible to have both incredible technique AND a boatload of groove. Nice! 2:17 - 2:21: WOW. Just... wow.
Neil Peart- greatest drummer!? I TRUELY don't think so. Jazz drumming; technical is more advanced than rock drumming. Putting Neil Peart with Dennis Chambers, or (billy Cobham), would be like what happened to Eric Clampton with Jimi.
Like how Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Carlos Sanata a whole list of other ones literally worship John McLaughlin. Jeff Beck and Sanata both admit they "worship" McLaughlin, Clapton has too big of an ego, but look back to the early Grahm Bond days for the real scoop... and Page? Page paid McLaughlin for lessons back in the 60's. Where do you think that whole 12 string came from? Comparing rock to jazz musically is like comparing single celled organisms to mammals in biology. Jazz can contain the whole of rock history within 1/2 a measure.
Nue Gai that is true to some extent, musically speaking. rock, however, is not just about the aural aspect of music. some jazz musicians fail to see that simple fact over and over again
There are a few drummers that I'd put in the same sentence with Dennis, but Peart is not one of them, although one can not ignore his skills, indeed. It is just my preference and Dennis will always be The one.Goat.
i saw him a couple years ago in a clinic in my town, he was playing double bass grooves while simultaneously keeping a pulse on the hit hit opening and closings really good footwork
man those were some of the cleanest polyrhythms and rolls i have ever heard and seen. u really have to be on a whole other level of maturity in music to understand this dude
I am lucky enough to have " Pick Hits Live" by John Scofield with Dennis on it. I think that Dennis's work with Scofield was incredible , and possibly his best work.
I was at his clinic oct 2nd and i couldnt believe some of the things he was doing. He doesnt even break a sweat. During his q & a break he drank a rum and coke then later played along to some of his tunes. Truly gifted!!
If neal peart could feel and really get into his solos and grooves as much as Dennis did, then MAYBE he would be half as good as Chambers. this is truly a fine art.
Because what he's playing isnt a drum kit, its an extension of his arms and legs! Hes the pinnacle of drumming and embodies his instrument, like Hendix or Santana did with guitar!
I just want to say that the K crash he is playing has a real nice decay on it, and he plays it so softly that it is like he is hardly playing it all. True class from a class player.
From 3:24 and on this drum solo separated him from everyone else within the drumming arena. This man is a the model of excellence. So very musical. So very well executed.
Thank you. I have not heard the blue matter album, but I have heard blue matter the song, and it is way cool. I really like heavy stuff, rock, metal and prog. But I also have a lot of time for players like this guy and others of this kind of music.GOOD STUFF!!!
is he in a band or just a drummer because he is awesome.. plus he closed his eyes from the beginning.. he feel he drum and he love em.. his good! very good!
This man is sick. I've always liked how he mixes up traditional and matched grip with his left hand for varying texture and feel. The ostinato he starts at 3:32 is pretty amazing.
Chambers is superhuman - I saw him at a clinic many years ago, and he blew the room away much like this, but one of his arms was in a cast. It didn't seem to matter.
I have no doubt. People usually mistake Dennis' armcrossings and arm-speed with the actual domain of the sticks. Concerning STICK-control strictly, I've never seen a better drumkit player than Buddy Rich. Every single/press/double/multiple/diddle/drag/flam roll happened exactly the way he intented them to be performed. With every lightning-fast accent put in a brilliant way as he produced his hyper fast rudimental combos. Pure excellence.
also id like to add this food for the thought that, indeed... beauty is in the ear of the beholder. believe it or not, several largely popular musical genres dont even stress syncopation... so forms of 'musicality' and 'groove' vary immensely. just because you dont like the way something feels or sounds, doesnt mean it feels or sounds bad.
I had this video as a teenager and it still amazes me almost 20 years later.
people forget that DC plays so many different styles, and that one solo that might pertain to what style he is playing wont be anything like another solo during another style, and it that versatility that makes him so damn great
That's a master of dynamics - listen to the change in volume in the blink of an eye - what a dude!
the limb independence is awesome! I mean anyone can play fast with practice but it takes a genius to do that kind of playing that he did at the end.
What makes Dennis such a great drummer is the way he can sit there and make the drums sing and sound musical. He's a great improviser and I've just always loved his style. It's his own and he doesn't go down the gospel chops route. He plays with passion and feel.
***** Using the traditional grip does not make you anything special..
+Tirreger Are you that good?
Btw he does use both grips. Ive seen him do it.
+BROODJE KAAS PRODUCTIONS match grip you have more power
Will, you are not alone in thinking this. I think they have more feel, rythm and passion in there playin, always giving 100%.
3:35-end is the hardest thing technically I've EVER seen any drummer do
Check Trilok Gurtu
Its call independence hes doing 4 different time signatures
Absolute

One of the best most solid smooth accurate constant solid drum solos I've ever heard in my life
How can you not like this legend.Dennis Chambers is tied with Billy Cobham for the most underrated drummer .These 2 are the monsters of drum world
I can give you the most popular reason........
his stick control is absolutely insane....its all in the wrist man
he's definitely one of my favorite all time drummers first of all because he plays pearl and second because when he solos, he plays what people want to see and hear, fast, rhythmic, high energy drummin!
in my opinion it's one of the best drum solo video on youtube...i like it too much!
Not to mention he is playing this entire solo with his eyes closed. His play is just God given ability.
And it is.
And Dennis has a great, great groove.
Wonderful poly-rhythms played so smoothly. Wow, great musician.
Chambers!! He never ceases to amaze with some impossibly complex stuff!!
Wow! I'm not a fan of the styles of music that Chambers usually plays, but this is such a nice solo! His transitions between ideas flow so smoothly! 4 way independence plus insane speed. best drummer ever.
from 3:35 - 5:07
the limb independence... sooo amazing. each limb is playing its own beat. my mind is exploding trying to comprehend it lolol
theydidntnameme yep, actual independence not just 4 way coordination
he is sooooo smooth, its incredible!
2:49 to + 10 seconds: anyone ales appreciate how friggin' amazing it is to play with those dynamics, that softly, AND with such speed? Unbelievable.

I loved the way dennis use to tune his drums. The snare sounds killer in this vid
It's like he was dared--"Okay, Dennis. You have to do this solo with your eyes closed."
Not a problem.
I drifted away from the drums well over 10 years ago but watching Chambers always makes me smile. What a beast.
Taking care of business... from an office chair!
He carries out what I can only dream of doing man! Free to do anything!
Just got done watching a show on him so I had to see more
It's amazing he does most of this with his Eyes closed. Fucking brilliant.
Dennis, you are the best. A born gift and being used to his best. Wow, what a talent. keep using it.

Nue Gai that is true to some extent, musically speaking. rock, however, is not just about the aural aspect of music. some jazz musicians fail to see that simple fact over and over again
See here's the issue.... Peart COULD'VE done all this but he was about 4x more innovative, plus there's a difference between rock and prog....
Ninety Five people can't drum anywhere near as well as Dennis Chambers.
at least
Dennis is honestly one of the most watchable/listenable drummers around (if not the best!)
man those were some of the cleanest polyrhythms and rolls i have ever heard and seen. u really have to be on a whole other level of maturity in music to understand this dude
I am lucky enough to have " Pick Hits Live" by John Scofield with Dennis on it. I think that Dennis's work with Scofield was incredible , and possibly his best work.
independence, speed, groove, monstrous robotic drumset, matching space suit... The Man has it all people!
crazy, expressive, and incredibly musical. it is a delight watching this man drum.
I was at his clinic oct 2nd and i couldnt believe some of the things he was doing. He doesnt even break a sweat. During his q & a break he drank a rum and coke then later played along to some of his tunes. Truly gifted!!

amazing, love Chambers!
one of the best drummer going around
His toms and snare sound awesome!
My favorite drum solo EVAR!!
Very good! Nice playing with dynamics etc. Love Dennis C. really one of the best!

Holy Hell! Four beats at once! INSANE! This man is superhuman.
fav piece of drumming of all time. it's hypnotic
those drums sound amazing
wow, this guy is incredible. perfect sense of time.
the man FEELS every beat,man.
If neal peart could feel and really get into his solos and grooves as much as Dennis did, then MAYBE he would be half as good as Chambers. this is truly a fine art.
What I like about his drumming is that he's always so relaxed, as if anyone could put down his grooves.
Because what he's playing isnt a drum kit, its an extension of his arms and legs! Hes the pinnacle of drumming and embodies his instrument, like Hendix or Santana did with guitar!
I LOVE DENNIS. He's my #1 drummer. I hope to be as clean as Dennis is.
I just want to say that the K crash he is playing has a real nice decay on it, and he plays it so softly that it is like he is hardly playing it all. True class from a class player.
This isn't a solo, this is a song.
I have this in mp3 format, downloaded it like 5 years ago. Great drummer.
He's awesome!
trop fort!
C'est un phénomène ce génie ;)
ça c'eest un vrai batteur!!!
Jesus often says hes almost as good as this guy right there
!!You got The Rhythm!!
From 3:24 and on this drum solo separated him from everyone else within the drumming arena. This man is a the model of excellence. So very musical. So very well executed.
One of the very best. :)
awesome. great guy.

best drum solo ever
Legendary drummer
one of my favorite drummers. dennis chambers is the man!!
This was insane... One of the best drummers ever.
is he in a band or just a drummer because he is awesome.. plus he closed his eyes from the beginning.. he feel he drum and he love em.. his good! very good!

I like how he shuts his eyes, really gets in that groove.
he's just crazy !
the best of all-time!
i love how he just hits grooves at 3 minutes in its a cool little groove that sounds great
Simply put: Dennis is a living legend!!!! Now I feel the need to go play my drums.
so good, one the best drum players
incredible, musical, explosive!!!
Chambers is superhuman - I saw him at a clinic many years ago, and he blew the room away much like this, but one of his arms was in a cast. It didn't seem to matter.
I love how controlled he is with his volume.
The part at 4 minutes is just amazing he play four differents things at the same time.
Okay this is phenomenal!!!
One of my favorite drummers!!!!
I have no doubt. People usually mistake Dennis' armcrossings and arm-speed with the actual domain of the sticks. Concerning STICK-control strictly, I've never seen a better drumkit player than Buddy Rich. awesome technique and playing!!
for such an insanely fast and powerful player, he's always been so damn tasteful too!
amazing player, incredible talent, explosive power and speed....Now you see where Tony R Jr got it!!!
unbelievable; a major improvement in his style.
Why is this man so underrated?
Jonathan Pearson are you joking?
He really is though.
Simply amazing, KILLER CHOPS
Amazing my friend...👍👍👍
The ostinato at the end destroyed all time signatures.
Mad skills.
I don't think there's a drummer in the world who makes it look as easy as Dennis
this solo just gets to known that his cordnation is insane!
He's so solid with that hi-hat, i thought there was a metronome for a minute..
I like the way his drumming/solos have so much "burst."
also id like to add this food for the thought that, indeed... beauty is in the ear of the beholder. believe it or not, several largely popular musical genres dont even stress syncopation... so forms of 'musicality' and 'groove' vary immensely.
just because you dont like the way something feels or sounds, doesnt mean it feels or sounds bad.
The Master 🔥🔥💜💜
@Sanyadr - it's an old VHS tape called "Common Ground" with Chambers and TRJr from 99 I believe.
Holy crap, he's not even looking! Thats amazing!
Maestro...crack sin palabras
