Further to my past comments: they were not called for. I have seen Dennis live in action with Santana at The O2 in London and he did a drum solo that I cannot describe. I was blown away and since then have looked for drum solo's. I love them, but to me the best is and always will be the drum solo of Dennis, it went on and on and but what you saw on the big screen your mind could not make sense of. He was, and is, brilliant. It was fantastic. I'm a fan.
Makes it look so easy, I love players like him and Bonham (my favorite) who can keep the hi hat going the whole time. It's such an overlooked and unappreciated quality of playing, but a lot harder than people think.
i don't know is DC is the fastest drummer on earth, but surely is one of the GREATEST; and he is playing every days better than before.. surely a gifted and talented players.
as drumsolos go, this was mesmerizing! and not just from the technical standpoint, either. nice pace changes, left me wondering "what's he gonna do next?!" It moves quite well the way music is supposed to. it starts out simmering, heats up a bit, simmers some more and then boils over. awesome!
Simple way to prove that it's not sped up.. WATCH THE CYMBALS. That's real physics people. Been a fan of his for over ten years.. Got tons of new rhythmic ideas and unique approaches thanks to him. Being a drummer in the past decade and a half has been extremely rewarding.
To the people on here who think these videos are speed up. They are NOT!! I've seen Dennis Chambers live a few times. The man is a machine!!!! One of the greatest drummers I've seen play. That includes a pretty long list of great ones live..... Bill Bruford, Phil Collins, Terry Bozzio, Billy Cobham, Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, Steve Gadd and so on.
This is Mr. Dennis Chambers, one of the best drummers in the world! This is not sped up. He is known for his fast hands! Trust me I know this guy personally. In fact, my dad is good friends with him. He is INCREDIBLE!!!!!!
He's awesome.Only discovered him while watching him on Buddy Rich tribute dvd.He did 'Dancing Men'.It was amazing.Double Bass drum sound from single bass drum.
I'm from Dayton, Ohio, so I first heard him with Parliment Funkadelic. He was heavy into jazz at the time, but he had all the funky pocket grooves even then. It was kind of like a blending of Billy Cobham and Bernard Purdie. I met him after a Stanley Clarke gig he played on. He was doing the wild right-hand w/kick fill, and reverse cymbal stuff. But what blew me away was 1) he played relaxed, 2) didn't use Moeller Technique, and 3) how he held the sticks (i.e. the end was held by his fingers).
this guy is amazing. i saw him live once and he looked like he was fastforwarded. it makes me want to cry because i know i'll never be that good at drums:P
There are close to 500 comments posted up to this point and 30% of these comments are about the suspicion that the video was sped up. Trust me; IT WAS NOT EDITED! I have seen Dennis live up close and personal, I spoke to him after the clinic and he even autographed the Cd's I bought from him. He is really that fast live. Dennis is one of the fastest drummers on the scene today. But it's not his speed that amazes me, rather his overall ability to play the instrument flawlessly in every aspect.
Incredible speed. I seen him @ Catalina Club in Hollywood. I couldn't believe what i was hearing and seeing. Whats so amazing is that his brain is ahead of his limbs.
Mr Chambers is really one of the best drummers alive. He doesn't have that industry hype that makes him good just because he plays with "such n' such band" - he's really that good on his merits.
this is the best solo i've ever seen from dennis, and i've never seen Any other drummer play like this whoever he is.....definitely super good still but i believe that here he was at the top of his game regarding speed and technique
Wow, believe it or not, I was at that event. I used to go to Thoroughbred Music's annual drum expos every year. (A.J. and Dan from Thoroughbred were awesome guys.) Didn't know there were videos of the expos around. Dennis has always been awesome. He said at the gig he always used to practice on pillows to get his power and speed up since they didn't provide any bounce for his sticks. I remember him being pretty cocky at the show during Q&A and signing autographs but why shouldn't he be?
I can't comprehend why you would even think about Travis Barker while watching Mr. Chambers play. They are in 2 different universes. His solos are amazing & his beats are complicated and groovy as hell at the same time. Most pop/rock drummers like Mr. Barker can't do 1/2 the stuff he does & that's why most of them look up to Chambers.
Yes, this is sped up in parts. If you look a the screen closely, it seems like it's taken fron an old VHS video tape and run through fast. This only occurs in the beginning part. The rest is pure drumming; phenomnal.
I got so many comments saying that I'd sped it up (usually with exceptionally poor grammar) so I put that in there to shut em up. And that is the irony, he can go faster!
dont know any drummer that can play that fast with his eyes closed. i would hve been hitting the the rims. and everything but the drums. dennis is awsome. had the chance to see him and virgil live in NYC. Man are they great.
i will say i've finally learned to do crossovers close to this fast, and even when i do develop the speed and endurance to do it this long, there are still matters of cleanliness, phrasing, and musicality to worry about, and that really what puts dennis above the rest
Quite apt comment above as Orson Welles was Unicron in Transformers back in '86. This guy is INCREDIBLE! When did he dye his hair and start playing basketball though???
I think what he's referring to is the shot of the slave pedal. The slave pedal generally has no spring, as it would require more effort to turn the beater on the main pedal. For someone unfamiliar with the mechanics of a double bass pedal it would be natural to assume there was no spring on both pedals.
Is this the guy from the Chambers Brothers? Time Has Come Today is their biggest hit, but their version of Amen is legendary. The drum solo is one of the most sampled in history, particularly breakbeat, jungle and drum & bass. There is a documentary or two about it on RUclips. It's called the Amen Break. Amazing!
the great thing is, when he does the silly silly fast fills, it all fits perfect in with the beat thats flowing all the way through....i luuuuuuuv iiiit *said in gruff italian accent*
ITS A SOLO!!! HE DOESN'T HAVE TO GROOVE and I know this guy....He's in Las Vegas Right now Playing for Santana he's been on thousands of albums as well..... BTW his timing is flawless when he playing A SONG....
Some of you who don't believe this is real... It is. I've seen him live more than once. He's just sick... What this vid doesn't show is how well he can mesh with a band and NOT play two million notes but really make great music. Look up his other vids with John Scofield for an example.
I haven't seen anyone as gifted with snare rolling as this guy. He beats the shit out of Carl Palmer, and i used to think he was king. he just rolls so fast, so clean, and his paradiddles are perfect. This guy thinks on a whole different musical plane.
I assure that it has not been edited in any way. Dennis simply practised on pillows with telephone books held under his arms, hence the ridiculous speed.
He told me in 1993 :-) 1. Go to Google. 2. Type "Dennis Chambers pillows" 3. Click on the link for "Untitled Document" (this is actually a link on the Pearl site) 4. Read and perform the recommended practice exercises. 5. Click on the link "labrigitte: Christian music & Dennis Chambers". 6. Read the last sentence. There's also a cool story around the "gum chewing" too!
Fast does not equate to being a great drummer. It's what you can DO with your speed that counts. Dennis can do more with his speed than any drummer I've seen, and I've seen a lot of 'em. His feel and groove at those speeds are aboslutely amazing. He's like the Art Tatum of the drums. Best solo drummer.
technique wise its very advanced. to the point i cant realli follow thru it and noe exactly wuts goin on each part. and speed is also amazing. it might not sound good to everybody, but its too good as a solo. i luv it.
To everyone who thinks this is sped up...please dont watch this if ur not a musician!!and stop giving ur expert comments,,if dont understand polyrhythm, ambidexterity, control n balance, this is not for you,so go ahead watch something simple.if u have a weak heart!!
He says that a lot of his speed comes from practicing so much on things that don't bounce at all (i.e. pillows, the bed), when he was younger. This forced him to not count on rebound or the moller technique for speed. If he wanted to hear 32nd note fills on the pillow, he simply had to play them :-) He also keeps his upper arm as close to his sides as possible, and relies on slick length and his wrist action, even when doing RH only tom fills. He seems to only use his arms for cross stick stuff.
Dennis' "explosion" at the end of "Josie" on Live In America just about lifted me off the seat when I first heard it. Almost sounds like his expression of frustration. I agree, Eskimo. Would be very hard for this guy to have the discipline required by Messrs Fagen and Becker.
what i love about his style is that i can feel (almost) hear the music in his head - truly amazing talent!
Further to my past comments: they were not called for.
I have seen Dennis live in action with Santana at The O2 in London and he did a drum solo that I cannot describe. I was blown away and since then have looked for drum solo's. i was at this clinic Oct. 7, 1990 in St. Petersburgs Mahaffey Theater,Chambers knocked everyones socks off.
ok so, my dad played with him, and is like good friends with this beast. i love this video.
Makes it look so easy, I love players like him and Bonham (my favorite) who can keep the hi hat going the whole time. It's such an overlooked and unappreciated quality of playing, but a lot harder than people think.
i salute you dennis!! your style and speed is very hard to duplicate!! really you are the best in the world!
i don't know is DC is the fastest drummer on earth, but surely is one of the GREATEST; and he is playing every days better than before..
surely a gifted and talented players.

wow he is so fast and his technique is as close to perfect as possible...
He's the Bruce Lee of drums!!!
What an amazing player this guy is. He really can do it all can't he. Good stuff.
Mr. Chambers always amazes me, those crossovers were insane!
This is Mr. Dennis Chambers, one of the best drummers in the world! This is not sped up. He is known for his fast hands! Trust me I know this guy personally. In fact, my dad is good friends with him. He is INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

My god that is one helluva solo. Such a incredible drummer he is.
fastest hands iv ever seen
this guy is amazing. i saw him live once and he looked like he was fastforwarded. it makes me want to cry because i know i'll never be that good at drums:P

No 1 sped it up. Thats how he really plays. I've c'n the guy live, and followed him 4 years. THATS HIS SPEED!! Period.
this is a legendary solo!!! i'd been looking 4 this "the thoroughbread solo".
I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live with him band Niacin in NYC. Just incredible.
Incredible speed. I seen him @ Catalina Club in Hollywood. I couldn't believe what i was hearing and seeing. Whats so amazing is that his brain is ahead of his limbs.
I totally love his style. Chambers for ever!
Mr Chambers is really one of the best drummers alive. He doesn't have that industry hype that makes him good just because he plays with "such n' such band" - he's really that good on his merits.

Doesn't get any better than this!! Explosive and inspired like Hendrix.
KILLER!!! he playing is so clean.
I love the name tag. "Hello. My name is Dennis I am a drummer. "
A Carter Beauford/ Dennis Chambers drum battle needs to happen. Lets pool our money people.
I dont care what nobody say!!! This is Dennis
I can't comprehend why you would even think about Travis Barker while watching Mr. Chambers play. They are in 2 different universes. Fellow drummers we should all know this is Dennis's natural speed. This guy is just too bad! unmatched!
No Gimmicks, No Gliches all natural!
Un homme brillant !!!
I say this , D C is still a MONSTER back then and now.
no one sound like dennis ! no one!
Outstanding chops...
All I can say is... Nothing. I have nothing to say. Best Drummer in the World.
he's not human
just amazing
The high-hat is still going at the same speed when he goes into the fast part, so it isn't sped up. This guy is a machine.
I hate to use the "best drummer" thing, but in terms of chops, sense of musicality, and speed, he's in another league. Very cool.
Yes, this is sped up in parts. If you look a the screen closely, it seems like it's taken fron an old VHS video tape and run through fast. This only occurs in the beginning part. The rest is pure drumming; phenomnal.
Badass as he was then, he's even better now. IMO, much better...
3:30 = shutting down this whole "Tony Royster has taken over the throne" thing
ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING!
Dennis=Drum God!Why do you do this to us? Have mercy :))
Dennis chambers is THE MOST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!
Man are they great.
wow... way to be skeptical of one of the best drummers to ever live...
jesususssssss his accents are SOOOOOOOSOSOSO fucking godly i can't take it
that's incredible!!
i will say i've finally learned to do crossovers close to this fast, and even when i do develop the speed and endurance to do it this long, there are still matters of cleanliness, phrasing, and musicality to worry about, and that really what puts dennis above the rest
Quite apt comment above as Orson Welles was Unicron in Transformers back in '86.
This guy is INCREDIBLE! When did he dye his hair and start playing basketball though???
Every young drummer is in the shadow of Lord Dennis
absolutely KILLER!!!
I think what he's referring to is the shot of the slave pedal.

No. Dennis was like 8 or 9 years old when Time Has Come Today came out. He is however, one of the best and most well known drummers in the world.
the great thing is, when he does the silly silly fast fills, it all fits perfect in with the beat thats flowing all the way through....i luuuuuuuv iiiit *said in gruff italian accent*
hahahah Dennis the Manice!!!One of my favoritedrummers
ITS A SOLO!!! HE DOESN'T HAVE TO GROOVE and I know this guy....He's in Las Vegas Right now Playing for Santana he's been on thousands of albums as well.....

If you watch a few more videos of him, you will soon notice that he is capable of that and a lot more.
i like when he used the drum key to raise the pitch of the snare while clappin it....i have never seen that before. this nigga is a legend
Most insane hand speed i ever seen in my life...............
I saw him live with Carlos Santana, and I can assure you that he is legit.
Yeah, he did.
My favorite by far is "Europa".
I love the chord progression and the melody.
You're right, and I'm very aware of that. I'm a musician myself.
I was just ranting on the level of musicianship that Dennis has.
amazing!!!
I assure that it has not been edited in any way. Dennis simply practised on pillows with telephone books held under his arms, hence the ridiculous speed.
He told me in 1993 :-)

this guy is a top drummer.got chops to spare.his solos are different because he wants to make them so.
Dennis,the King
amazing... wow
OKAY..... My arms fell off at 3:30!!!!
incredible...
Thumbs up if he looks exactly like Ice Cube in the 90's from 1:18 to 1:44 Dough Boy's tearin' it up!
Very syncopated - brilliant!
remember that's 20 years old!
dennis chambers is the god of drumming travis barker said he always looks at dennis chambes dvd b4 he plays
yea he is the god of drumming hands down

I saw him last night.
god he's insane..
those people who think this was sped up watch the buddy rich memorial dvd when dennis plays the jetsons theme
Dennis' "explosion" at the end of "Josie" on Live In America just about lifted me off the seat when I first heard it. Almost sounds like his expression of frustration. I agree, Eskimo. Would be very hard for this guy to have the discipline required by Messrs Fagen and Becker.
@xCRASHDRUMSx this is when dennis chambers start becoming a legend with that jerry curl lol
dude, thats how fast he plays. like a humming bird
he's a freak
In fact, clips from these videos r on RUclips.
No, He rips it at 3:20 into the video...his speed and tec is amazing..
