Really impressive Fergus you’ve recently inspired me to start training for my 60/100m again, whilst smashing my powerlifting goals with juvenile arthritis 🙏
I started working at the local bike shop so taking on another part time job… having enough to eat everyday has really been a struggle. i am a runner but ive had foot fractures since the start of the year. its taken its toll. im trying to figure out an iron man training regime since ive had to incorporate more biking and starting swimming the past few months. i take care of myself, have been since 17. ive struggled with nutrition my whole life. everything ive learned has been online so it be great to have a video on it. i have to eat gluten free and i eat a vegetarian diet.
having somebody to help with making dinner or putting gas in the car is really taken for granted… im exhausted some nights with even with things that should be easy. let alone figuring out what i need to eat to maintain muscle, have energy, and be healthy.
thank you so much for being such a big inspiration to people like me and so many others.
A nutrition vid would be mega, something that is goes into the whats and hows/ easy to follow, examples and a rough guide too 😁🤙🏻

One nutrition thing I struggle with when hybrid training is being hungry all of the time. I eat and eat and eat and I'm still hungry, but then manage to put on 3-4kg in an 18-week marathon training block, so something isn't right with my choices.

I’ve got a sprint triathlon in a two weeks in Oxford. I’m going for a 1:2X over quite a difficulty course. Aiming for a top 7 finish! Love to see you inspiring us all Fergus!

This is great stuff. I’m going to be training for a smaller marathon myself at the end of the year (just a wee half-marathon). Bit nervous myself as I’ve not done one of these in years and am very out of practice. I’ve been using Tongkat Ali extract powder mixed into a double espresso as pre-workout to help with performance and recovery and it’s been really good for strength training / lifting. Am hoping it’ll work just as well for the cardio training. Good luck on your race!

What are the pros and cons of doing a cut while hybrid training?
How much of a deficit do you go into?
I’ve personally found that my body weight fluctuates way more when hybrid training, as opposed to regular gym. Do you have a similar experience? It can be annoying trying to figure out if I’m making progress or not.
Gotta take into account the active calories you burn from your choice of cardio and make sure you are mostly eating it back if you want to maintain. Or dial it back for a slight deficit.
how do you maintain upper body strength while in a calorie deficit and training lower body?

Fergus you don't like sets of 5 DL, imagine following your program and doing 12 reps, you got me dying mate. Nah I'm absolutely loving the program (hypertrophy + 1/2 marathon), totally recomend it!

Mobility before I lift, never in isolation.

Sub 2 isn't super difficult so you just need to gradually increase mileage while doing 1 hard interval session and at least 2-3 gym sessions a week, eating heaps of protein and sleeping enough. I just PB'd my half marathon at 1:43, was gaining strength through the prep while dropping a couple kilos 💪

Your body is telling you that it needs a rest. Your age will help things but you can’t do all the endurance stuff you do without the body fully recovered. At 90kilos and aiming for sub 3 hours you should be eating as much as you want ( healthily) and you should be struggling to keep weight on. I wish you good luck in the endeavour and hope you achieve it. Listen to your body.
