[Mono] Cable rebroadcast of an entertaining visit to late night mainstream television. Live performance, assisted by the house band, followed by an entertaining interview.
I remember watching this episode in 1986 ....I was a big fan of David Letterman watching every night. (most definitely the funniest late night show at the time)..I was an even bigger fan of P-Funk since elementary school in the 70s Parliament Funkadelic were my favorite funk band. This was a very rare appearance of George Clinton on any TV show..P-Funk music was too black, too funky, too everything for regular tv but when I read on the TV Guide and saw that George Clinton, my favorite funk artist was going to be a guest on my favorite late night tv show, I was going bonkers because this was maybe the first time George was on any tv show ever or my first time seeing him on tv...he was definitely a mysterious guy to me. So I prepared my little cassette tape recorder put a tape in and recorded the George segment strait from my television speakers..I still have the to this day. PS special appearance by Gary Shider on guitar and vocal @ 1;;20 standing in the back .Thank you for sharing What's for afters?
Thank you! A real fan's obsession with getting it all down on tape, and then having to wait years to see it all again :) Glad I could help out, and bring back those memories! Much appreciated, and very happy to read that you are pleased with the results. I, too, would scan the papers, to see who might pop up on Letterman, all those years ago, in hopes of catching a one-off performance by any number of people - your personal story brought back good memories ;)
I remember staying up late to see this episode, and paid dearly the next day when it was time to get up and go to work the next day. It was worth it! It was great seeing George come out of his self-imposed exile.
Damn after watching this and the ppl in the audience having such a blast TOGETHER, it makes you really miss these times, and also wonder wtf happened to ppl having so much fun in the audience and at shows in general… Way before the cell phones and politics bullish!t separating us. BIG props to Don Johnson making an appearance at 2:05 too!
+Mike Jones (MC Beast) Well then, MC BEAST, being as young as you are, and on here, digging the George Clinton, your parents did good raising you. KUDOS. Parenting done right!!!
He used to hit the cymbals in P funk, bootsy told him about the ONE aka emphasising a heavy first beat. That was James Brown's rule, you gotta have that ONE
To me, George's pointer finger in the air ALWAYS means either "One Nation Under a Groove" or "Everthing Is On The One" lol Doesnt matter what he's talkin about lol
Can y’all stop making remarks about he he went from colorful dreds to a bald head the man was on LSD and Crack for 30 years he finally got a hold of himself and said I’m almost 80 I need to get a grip
Dude clapping on 1&3 at 2min28sec....you get an A for effort, but George was trying to help you clap on 2&4...just follow the snare drum and the entire crowd!
Wait a minute, you're telling me the guy with the rainbow hair did a ton of LSD? I'm not buying it. He'd do something crazy like have a dude only wearing a diaper in his band... Really? Well I'll be damned.
scared prejudiced little boy, it's in his posture, his voice and his condescending snarky little comments. Sir nose will never understand the science of the funk.
Clinton took that room from lame to game in two minutes flat.
Yes, he did!! 😊❤️🕺
The cocaine 80s rules dude
@@CantTellYou - now that's a good one, but it's true.
90 percent of the audience didn't know what to do but they tried so hard, the few black women in the crowd was already funkin
the first 20 seconds was the David Letterman Show....
3 minutes in it was the George Clinton show!!!
FACTS!
darn tootin'
Yup!! 😊❤️🕺
That black lady in the crowd was trying to get a record deal. Lol.
😹😹😹😹
She was hittin' them harmonies and everything 😂😂 she was like "i'm the only black person here I gotta prove myself" 🤣
I was the only white boy in Hot Springs, AR rocking this in the car everywhere I went.
Then you where the only white dude in Hot Springs who's rims was spinnin' while in park.
Keep on Funkin' brother.
“A positive creative nuisance.” Now that’s a compliment coming from George Clinton.
Paul Shafers band was amazing they played all of the great music. Incredible musicians!
I wonder who those white ppl were
And it’s funny how people think 6ix9ine is the first artist to have rainbow hair George pulled it off in ‘86
ALL right
That right and the boy doesn't get nearly enough recognition
Try 72
That's not hair. It's a physical manifestation of the funk. More akin to a halo.
George did it without looking gay
pretty sure george clinton knows how to work a crowd
