All of the artists on this great video that are no longer here, RIP. The way this world is going, we’ll see you soon.
Phillipe Wynn was one of the greatest R&B singers EVER...! Sad but appropriate that he died on stage doing what he loved. Great hearing the late great Ray Davis holding down the bottom. This is classic Oldskoolfunk...and so am I...!

I first saw the Spinners in 1974 at a concert in in Akron Ohio. I was a fan of theirs every since. By far, Phillip Wynne was & still is the greatest ad-libber I've ever seen in my life.
Thanks for letting the fans know this. I always wonder about Keep Your Head to the Sky. It seems that Phillip Bailey was not hitting those high notes by himself.
Best of THE BEST truly a diamond, best vocalist ever to me,so much heart and showmanship and funky.GOD HAS HIM NOW!Peace and love Mr Wynne.forever....Much respect....
The brother was the most memorable voice of the Spinners.. He’d walk out and got the crowd into the song much like church.. His voice just soars to the sky.. He gave it every time.. Rest In Peace Phillip Wynn .. LB October 2021
We use to see the Spinners back in the 70’s at the old Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, New Jersey , when they use to serve hot food called supper clubs .. Sister Sledge would open up the show for them. Damn what a show !!!
Philippe Wynne is one of the members of the group, Spinners. Everyone, please be sure to vote for the Spinners DAILY starting NOW through FRIDAY, APRIL 28TH so that they get inducted into this year's 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Tremendous vocals, blow man, blow .you are so talented and blessed. I Am a sucker for beautiful vocals, Just drawn in.....love it.What a mighty GOD we serve...
Behind all the greateness of this performance, the nasty Junie Morrison's synth bass and Rodney Skeet's bass guitar got buried in the mix. We need to have a petition for restoring the entire show to premium quality sound and visual. This was epic at so many levels I can't even begin to tell.
This one was in Houston but I saw this tour at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, NYC FANTASTIC! Thanks for Posting Zoltan! One of the Cats was walking on stage with a sign: THIS IS A BLACK OPERA!
Philippe Wynne left The Spinners for Parliament-Funkadelic due to a mix of creative and personal motivations. As the lead singer of The Spinners, he contributed to their string of hits in the 1970s but eventually grew frustrated with the limited creative control and the constraints of performing primarily smooth soul and R&B. Wynne sought greater artistic freedom and a chance to showcase his dynamic vocal and improvisational skills in a different musical setting. By joining Parliament-Funkadelic, led by George Clinton, Wynne entered a collective known for its experimental, boundary-pushing funk music and theatrical performances. This move allowed him to explore a more eclectic, freewheeling sound and engage with a band renowned for its groundbreaking creativity. Wynne’s contributions to Parliament-Funkadelic include standout performances such as on tracks like "Rumpofsteelskin," where his charismatic delivery and vocal improvisations added to the group's unique flair. Ultimately, his transition from The Spinners to Parliament-Funkadelic was a bid for more artistic independence and a chance to tap into a different, more improvisational and electric funk style than what his previous group had offered.
Back when this song hit i was about 8. I actually thought it George Clinton singing Philippe' Wynne's part. I used to be like damn Uncle George is jammin! But it was ol boy Philippe' Wynne from the Spinners the whole time. LOL😁! L8TR👊! KEEP THE FUNK ALIVE 🤘.
Those few years or months with p funk probably took it toll on Mr. Wynne. I'm sure the spinners partied but I doubt they did what P funk did and not as hard as P funk either. But George was a genius in bringing him in for this big hit
Wish there was a complete concert somewhere lingering in the shadows of RUclips. I belive this entire show to be THE BOMB. Even the Beverly Theatre show isn't as good as this one.

Phillipe Wynne ..... I wish he hadn'teft tbe Spinners. He was the greatest thing to happen to the Spinners. Remember "Ghetto Child" and We Belong Together .
Success often goes to our head. Lots of people blowing smoke up his ass to the point he demanded the name be changed to Philippé Wynne and the Spinners, and they said no (rightfully so), and he quit. Aside from Philippé's fantastic talent for ad-libbing, Bobby Smith's voice was just as beautiful as his -- almost indistinguishable at times. Don't get me wrong, I love Philippé's voice above Bobby's, but The Spinners were a damn fine band before Philippé' joined, and it was just plain egomaniacal of him to demand the name be changed.
