    CATALYTIC CONVRTER FACT.....FROM WIKI......An engine equipped with a three-way catalyst must run at the stoichiometric point, which means more fuel is consumed than in a lean-burn engine. This means approximately 10% more CO2 emissions from the vehicle. CO2 is the primary reason for climate change. Im not saying we didnt have a problem with CO emissions which are poison but nobody figured the long term of all the cars putting out 10% more CO2. Solve 1 problem create another.
    My biggest question is why are we not putting more plants in houses during the winter. Why is the Government not asking us to do this? Would it make a difference? Because they cant tax it. or make money on it that is why......Just my opinion. and yes catalytic converters are a major cause of climate change. Look at the time line. When I was a kid we did have a MAJOR issue with carbon monoxide in southern CA. there were 3 and 4 stage smog alerts every day in the summer. But there was NO talk about climate change. After the 80s there was less and less smog alerts. But in the 90s the Al Gore movie came out.....The concern about climate change REPLACED. the concern about Smog alerts.....Think about it.

    • @Veikra
      @Veikra 2 года назад +3

      And Al Gore lied. Historically, the CO2 level raised 800 years AFTER global warming. So he lied saying co2 was the driving factor of global warming. Listen now that we caught the lie, they rebranded global warming to climate change.

    The catalytic converter completes the fuel burn ....eliminating hydrocarbons and nitrogen compounds. It does also converts co to co2 but co is also a greenhouse gas and is a contributor to ozone. The catalytic converter has had a tremendous positive effect on air pollution. It does not remove greenhouse gases from car exhaust nor does it add to them..

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  2 года назад +4

      Your catalytic converter is named as such because it converts toxins into less harmful byproducts, such as water vapor and carbon dioxide. Without this component, your vehicle will no longer be filtering and reducing harmful emissions, including hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxide. this is from google.
      The less harmful product of a catalytic converter is Carbon dioxide. Primary cause of climate. change. This is why Al Gore in the late 90s made the movie. We had no issues with climate change before that but we did have some major issues with carbon monoxide. Believe me I know what it is like to wake up to stage 3 and 4 smog alerts every day. The democratic government of California put a Band-Aid on this knowing it would be a issue later on. Not bothering to diversify energy or come up with a better solution. Just mandated it and deal with it later. Just like every "solution" they have also has an adverse effect. Mandate lower paint emissions, paint does not last as long and needs to be done more often "more net emissions" . Mandate solar panels, Solar panel companies raise the price because it is required on all new homes. Mandate fire sprinklers and now fire sprinkler companies can charge more to put the money into the person who mandated its campaign fund. It is the game they play.....to get your vote. Look at the results of the mandates. Homeless everywhere.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  2 года назад +3

      according to this article in google Catalytic converters are a carbon dioxide machine. If you convert carbon all carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide. (which is better for the short term) you are making more carbon dioxide. because the carbon monoxide is being replaced. This is why it goes perfectly in the time line of why there became a huge movement to climate change. No worries in the 40s 50s or 60s with climate change just smog. CO...not Co2

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  2 года назад +3

      here is another article. they create more carbon dioxide. Catalytic converters can contribute to global warming in another way, too. They reduce the efficiency of motor vehicle engines, causing increased fuel consumption and hence greater emissions of carbon dioxide. ... Catalysts were introduced to reduce a range of pollutants that contribute to acid rain and urban ozone smo

    • @johnturner7060
      @johnturner7060 2 года назад +3

      THE BURNING of petrol in car engines always produces carbon dioxide (carbon dioxide), along with a small amount (1-4 per cent) of carbon monoxide (CO). The CO which escapes from your car exhaust will eventually oxidise to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere anyway; a catalyst simply speeds up the process in order to reduce the local health effects of CO. So overall there should be no net effect on carbon dioxide emissions except that the use of catalysts is incompatible with certain engine types, such as the 'lean-burn' design, which offer greater fuel efficiency (and thus lower carbon dioxide emissions) but are unable to meet emission limits for other pollutants. The only effective way to alleviate greenhouse guilt syndrome is to use less petrol. Buy a more fuel-efficient car or, better still, a bicycle.

    8 years ago I restored and electrified a little Triumph Spitfire and had Maaco paint it at a cost of $2500. It was already torn down to sheet metal, the body was straight and needed little work, and it was a standard single stage color. They did minimal prep work and didn't bother to degrease and finish the underside of the hood. That was 8 years ago and $2500. Recently I bought a VW bus to restore and this time I decided to learn to do my own body and paint work. I can't imagine what the cost would be today with twice size of the car. Hence why I binge Mike's Fn videos :-)

    yes sir, I concur I have never painted a car, but one thing I know it's a hell of a lot of work. Last year I fixed up a 1966 bug and got I back on the road. I put front fenders on it an removed all the glass, trim and rubber, bumpers, pretty much stripped the whole car. And had someone do the body and prep. work he worked on the car for a week and a half, than towed the car to a near-by Maaco paint to finish the job. all total I spent about $4500 to $ 5000. on the paint. Than worked on the car for almost 2 months to put it back together. the paint job is far from perfect but I am very happy with the end results. I think it turned out sharp. WHAT ALOT OF WORK, but so glad I took it on, learned so much. Yes I was surprised how much it cost to refinish the paint. But everyone that worked on that paint job has bills to pay and needs to make a living. and I saw the amount of work it took for the paint job. I am telling you, no one got rich. This day and age you can"t expect anyone to work for free. Over all knowing what I now know I got a very fair deal on the paint job thanks

This reveals the next bunch of ripples..more blocking and spot painting. Finally, roll it into the booth and paint for gloss. Dry time, wet sanding, buffing and polishing..very satisfying at the end.Roll the car outside and you're looking at a mirror, your own reflection, the blue sky, and all the world..around $1500.00 split between 2 guys. To be fair I think the real problem is the seller/buyer hostility. Both sides have great points. Both sides need to acknowledge the points the other sides are making. Agreeing with the other side’s points is not an admission that your points are wrong. I agree, people don’t realize just how much paint and equipment costs, as well as the fact that you are literally paying some skilled laborer’s salary for multiple days of work and the job is a lot harder and more time consuming than they think. HOWEVER, that doesn’t change the fact that if someone just wants to make their car orange or pink or something, paying 5-10 grand is WAY too expensive to really be a justifiable expense. I think we can all agree that if someone wants to change the color of their car, it should not cost 1/4 of what you paid for the car. Even if you have the means, there is just no way you can look at that price tag and think that it isn’t a bit over priced.
    All that means though is that the industry needs some changes to the business model. Companies, manufacturers, or entrepreneurs have a wide open area of market share to expand into if they can figure out how to change the color of a car for 2-300$.
    Does this mean car painters aren’t worth the price? No, of course they are. But the price itself is the issue, not the person charging it.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  Месяц назад

      as a car painter you should be specific on what they are getting and NOT getting. But some people no matter how much you tell them they just want more.

      almost better off in most cases if you want to change the color of the car to trad it in and buy the color you want. There is no way to do it faster or cheaper unless it is before it is assembled.

      @@Mikefngarage Yeah I totally get that, as a Chef I completely understand that some customers will never be happy unless you tell them they can have exactly what they want for as little money as possible.
      However that doesn’t change the fact that there is a clear problem apparent to everyone in the painting business.
      *Everyone wants a custom color, but it costs too much*
      To claim that solving this problem is impossible is a defeatist mentality. People didn’t know a lot of things were possible until they tried to do it for the sake of profit.
      I’m sure it won’t be the solution we already think of (some miraculous cheap paint that’s also easy to apply, easy to remove, long lasting and weather proof) but it _could_ be a simpler solution. Things like maybe a cheap paint that lasts even shorter than a wrap, but can be applied for 200$ and thus people could simply get another paint job whenever it wears out.
      Idk I’m not an inventor and far from an engineer but I just think there _will be_ a solution in the future. However I do agree with you that as of right now, if you want a good paint job you have to fork up the cash.

    I work at a "high end shop" and people shit when we give them a quote for 10k for a full paint job. The labor alone to take out all glass, take off doors, hood, prepping the vehicle, etc, etc adds up quick. We do paint work just like the factory though, provide a quality job, and give the customer a warranty on our work for as long as they own the vehicle - our customers receive no runs, perfect color match, perfect texture, etc. It's funny though to hear people call us "rip offs" due to how much it costs but will gladly pay a fraction of that and end up not happy because the paint peeled off, paint runs on panels, orange peel all over, and just overall a crappy job. Just depends what people want - you pay for what you get.
