Find out how Italy’s sweetest lemons (sfusato amalfitano) are literally saving the Amalfi Coast from ecological disaster. And meet the farmer who has dedicated his life to this lemon that’s grown nowhere else on earth. This is Gigino Aceto, a.ka. the “Flying Farmer,” who still scales the pergolas of his terraced farm in his late 80s.

"I was conceived under a lemon tree, lemon juice runs in my heart and veins" This episode is beyond beautiful
Thank you! I call Gigino my poet-farmer.
@@TrueFoodTV I really appreciate your work.. I would like tell you, I have subscribed only few channel and you are one among them. I Feel so happy by watching your excellent videos
His lines are deep... something I didn't hear in a long time . Thank you all for making it possible.
omg your comment made me cry! :'( it's so beautiful
I was just about to say. The way he says things are like creating poems that are really special.
This makes me want to drop everything, move to the Amalfi Coast and beg to apprentice for this family. Beautiful history
I'd say there's a bus load of subscribers thinking the same thing.
Let's do it!!
Yes! Chartering bus ...
OK Done.
Reply on this thread if you wanna seat on the bus! 😀
Robert Kielty I come from an archipelago so I will have to save up first for that plane ticket to get to that bus waiting area 😂
Robert Kielty where's the bus!
I will always have a huge respect and admiration for all the farmers doing all the hardwork to feed us. 💖
There are so many elder people that we admire how dedicated they are. I myself oftentimes see elders that love their profession even in their late ages, it's not because the money they earn but the passion to keep the tradition or heritage. That's what we can learn from them as the youngsters. By the way your video is amazing too. Love from Indonesia 🇮🇩 😊
We really need to appreciate the farmers that devote their lives to producing our food for us. It may be a simple life, compared to other jobs, but it is extremely important and fulfilling. This video illustrates the beauty of farming and carrying on traditions, and how those traditions can very well keep society from crumbling apart.
Well said!
CBA lol it ain’t a simple life, it’s a hard life. It’s why most don’t do what we do
We need to force their children and more people to do the farming work to keep the traditions alive. And to save the coast from crumbling away.
It's strange we do not appreciate our most essential needs. Where I try to make it a regular practice to thank God for what I do have. As quality foods is good. I'd prefer to have my own homestead, a couple hundred acres would suffice. Grow heirloom fruits and veggies, an orchard, vineyard, edible landscaping, companion planting, everything natural. Processing supplies, including nitropacking and freeze drying, making syrups, jellies, as well as a whole host of medicinal herbs and berries, maybe a mote to surround the property as a pond with varying depths to grow rice and bamboo, where bamboo can be used for drip irrigation.😉😉, Sound good? Oh, definitely plenty of honeybees. Might need more acreage to receive restaurant wastes segregated for papers, coffee grounds, eggshells, wasted foods, grocers wastes produce, and lawn clippings etc. for soil building. Which I mentioned a mote as a pond, where need a deep spring fed creek that runs even in draoughts, which feeds the pond, with a water well and maybe turbines connected to generators. Oh and methane generators where sewage, manure, animal waste, organic matter is used to create methane to fuel lights, heat, etc., while creating huge amounts of nutrient rich fertilizer. Sound good?
Easy Life? You try 😘
I can respect his work and dedication...i am glad his son is going to carry on the family farm.
Now I'm crying, also you're crying! 😢
This video is not just about the lemons, it's about the people all around it. May these lemon trees continue to grow and protect the people 😊
I lived in Sicilia for a year. The Sicilians I lived with were chefs and a fisherman. Very simple. Washing dishes? Plates, cups are kept in a wooden or steel rack above the sink. We kept these beautiful lemons by the sink. Just cut and use the thick pulp and juice to just wipe the dishes. No rinsing needed. Then just place the plates, bowls, cutlery back in the racks!
They grew their own olives (a large stone press was in the courtyard that folks would use), grape vineyards that were easier to press (no we didn’t stomp on them!), and lemons. We’d climb up in the mountains to irrigate each night from aqueducts.
We lived near Taormina by Mt Etna the active volcano. It was BEAUTIFUL. I ate plates of pasta each day but never gained weight. Long climbs, hauling water, harvesting…I was the most fit in my life. No butter, just Italian baguettes fresh each morning. Siestas each afternoon and the shops all closed. Sweet naps in cool shade. We played tennis on the public clay courts everywhere.
I would still be living in Sicilia if I had any sense! BTW the Sicilians don’t speak Italian you’ll find on Rosetta Stone. It’s a specific local language and as an American woman (only American in coastal town) the locals loved hearing me make embarrassing mistakes. Kind good people!
BTW be forewarned! The Sicilian men are very macho! Don’t expect equality. But walking with my fiancé each night on the lungomare the men dress in their finest modern suits, the married women all in black dresses. No shorts or pants for me. Even harvesting fruit I wore dresses.
This is absolutely wonderful, I was moved to tears by this family's dedication and love of their land, the sheer beauty of the life around them, and the yearning to have this deep connection to the land myself. Please keep showcasing these kinds of farmers, not only is it so important to share their stories and perspectives, but you're changing the hearts and minds of people all over the world, how we look at farming, and giving us a new appreciation for where our food comes from and who grows it! Much love from Canada, keep finding new food adventures and sharing your and your team's amazing work
Victoria, thank you! This has to be one of my favorite comments ever. Your words are motivating and affirming, and we really appreciate them. Much love to you!

That's such a lovely way of putting it. Yes, this was one special.
Nicole, this lemon farm looks like heaven. I am sitting home, drinking your favorite earl grey tea (harney and sons), and watching your lemon video. I love your choice of shirt. It matches well with the lemons. Thank you for sharing :-)
By the way, I love the 80 year old farmer. God bless him, and you too.
Thank you so much! Gigino and his family are special people. All my best to you -- and enjoy that Earl Grey for me! ;)

I absolutely LOVED this episode. I myself have a Meyer Lemon tree that's someone turned into a hybrid tree with a grapefruit and oranges all on one tree. I got it from Florida and so far I've had some AMAZING lemons. So sweet and sour. This is truly inspiring. God bless this gentleman and his family. I'd love to visit or even help him harvest.. Such a sweet and wholesome episode

Hi Nicole. I am from India. I am a farmer too. I salute the flying farmers for the hard work, they are doing. I like you're all episodes. The 'lemon farm' the way you do the picturisation is awesome. Looks like heaven on earth. Here in India too there are places like the northeast and the sahyadri's the farming is done on the hill sides.

I want to give this man the fountain of youth...so adorable....
This Deserve a Studio Ghibli animated movie. An 11 minute clip that showed me passion and romance more than a 100 million
dollars Hollywood movie.
Breathtakingly beautiful. I love his passion for his work, and I love your channel! Thank you for bringing us stories like this!
His way of speech... is amazing.

I gave him plenty of hugs for you! ;)
I really enjoy watching your channel, its full of joy with colourful fruits, well-told story, and informative even. But this one really moved me. What a great content and coverage it is; exposing the real essence of life. I bet you can be a great Anthropology and Sociology researcher too. 👍🏻
So glad you enjoyed it! I loved making it.
Hats off to that very young old farmer..... The flying farmer.
Salute to 83 year old farmer💂🙏 he's older than my grandfather who's also a farmer..both Works so seamlessly..Farmers are the lifeline of human race🙏

Nicole . Thank you once again for another piece of superbly done video. What you are doing helps to preserve much of earth's culture and historical richness. I wouldn't have known about this bit of Amalfi uniqueness if I had not watched this. You realize that you are now also a historian? Awaiting your next video.👍
What a beautiful comment. Thank you so much! I do feel a deep sense of privilege to be recording and sharing these stories. I'm so glad you find in them the same value I do!
This old man living with full of happiness even he’s gone
Hes life is so simple, happy and no
Worries under the lemon tree’s
(look how the way he smile) love this episode
i come from Vietnam and i was born in a small village where has many paddle fields. My parents are farmers, but they must do almost all tasks by themselves with little support from machines and the product's price is not good enough to cover the life. That's why the youth has moved their hometown to the big cities with the aim of finding better jobs as well as future. I wish farmers could apply more advanced techniques to support them as well as keep more young people stay their villages in the future.
This video is really impressive to me. It has shown the beauty of farmers, thank you for making such an amazing video!
Its like a magical land...
Its so beautiful
So spell bounding
Enchanting
I could live there forever
I loveeeeeee citrus fruits
And its a heaven
It really does feel like heaven!
Ive watched a good many of your videos and enjoyed each one. However, this one truly moved me. By far your most intimate!
Thank you so much! Yes, this was truly a special story for me to tell. I'm glad that came through.
The trees affect the micro climate, the roots prevent landslides. They are finally replanting the slopes of Spain now. I hope they don't stop. Such a beautiful film.
this place is heavenly perfect...stayed here at amalfi and havent seen any place more beautiful and peaceful than here
I've enjoyed all of your videos, but this one was by far the best. Thank you so much for making it and sharing it!

Happy to hear from you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I was honored to share his story.
Lemon juice runs in my heart and veins instead 'blood'. How wonderful!
You can tell that these men (father and son) were talking about and sharing about what they love, and there is positively nothing wrong with loving those trees and the beauty of nature.
Of all the videos that I watched so far on this channel, this one is my favourite. This place is so beautiful, I wanna move there one day! I'm amazed by the dedication and care that Gigino puts into his farm, and as always, I love and adore the quality and production of this video!
"Knock, knock..."

Thank you so much! from sri lanka
Nice
This video is full of heart. I love everything in here and it made me want to go to Amalfi 😍😍 And Looking forward to your Naples video!
Nicole,
I have been enjoying your TF series for a while now but this episode is truly exceptional. My Mother was Sicilian and my first job after high school was working in an Italian restaurant owned and operated by a couple who were from Italy. You brought back a lot of wonderful memories both of her and them. Thanks for the reminder of a very special time in my life. 🙏❤️
Sicilian/Southern Italian food is VERY different from central and northern food. What specific foods did you have?
My day will not be complete without eating/ drinking lemon!🙏🙏🙏
I would love to try that lemon cake! For someone who appreciates the gift from mother nature and dedicates his life to preserve all the traditions / environment, his fruits have to be special. How can they not be? His face along tells me how good those lemons are.
Well said!
Best video ever.
how beautiful ways you use to tell us about farming i wish we can see everything good in the world through your videos not about agriculture only.
Thank you very much this what we need on RUclips.
Thank you for such a wonderful comment. I'm so happy to contribute something positive.
By far, the best episode I’ve seen. It’s always amazing to see how farmers take such pride in their work😌. It’s amazing.
Wow, how amazing! Thank you for this beautiful video. God bless Gigino and the other flying farmers!
I binged this series in one day.
Woohoo! Love it!
Such lovely people. Loved the music and video. Subscribed
Thank you! And welcome!
Gigino’s heart is so healthy since he walk up and down the stairs his whole life. I love this video soooooo much!
So incredible! Thank you for being a builder upper!! For shedding light on other people's way of life and sharing that so well!
Awesome series! I love the videography, and the way you narrate is wow!
Thank you so much!
This was such an interesting and satisfying video. Much respect
Thank you for watching!
I have one word to describe this video ...... AMAZING! I was so moved watching this, at one stage I seriously had a tear in my eye. Your content & delivery is on point.
Gigino really waxes poetic about his lemons. All farmers are poetic about their products and live-stock, I guess. If one cannot see the poetry in an apple or a cow - one can never become a farmer. Thanks, Julia to yourself and your team.
Very well done thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for taking the time to share these stories and pass on the awareness of how crucial a role these plants are!
Thank you for taking the time to watch!
I'm going through a chronic health crisis at the moment but once I heal up I am packing my bags for Italy. I dont want to live the stressful life in North America. I'd love to make lemonchello and olive oil
count me in!
And the ending scene with the old man doing his job with the lovely music in the background is so calming.
Thank you for sharing his story.
A truly touching and beautiful story!! i love how Nicole is so respective and kind to Gigino. This was a teachable moment to my kids to appreciate food and those who make it possible for us to eat
What a well done video! Love all of your videos but this one is by far the most interesting and heartfelt! The farmer is inspirational! Thank you for posting this awesome video!! Keep the videos coming! 👍
Thank you so much! It was a very special episode for me too.
I'm a huge fan of this channel and loves all there content
Thank you so much!
This channel deserves a lot more love...
It's just phenomenal, every single episode, Thank you Nicole for sharing this with us
