  • Limoncello is one of the most popular Italian liqueurs. The yellow drink is made in southern Italy, in sunny Sicily, the Gulf of Naples, and the Amalfi Coast - mostly because these areas offer the perfect soil and weather conditions to grow lemons.
    We visited Villa Divina, a villa on the Amalfi Coast in the city of Vietri with 600 lemon trees. Villa Divina supplies lemons to Pallini, a company established in 1875 in a small village near Rome that specializes in Italian liqueurs such as Sambuca and Mistrà. Pallini Limoncello production started in the '90s, and today Pallini makes almost 1 million liters of the lemon liqueur per year. The type of lemon used for making Pallini Limoncello is the Sfusato Amalfitano, also known as Amalfi lemon.

    Something everybody should know about lemon trees is that bumblebees fricking love lemon flowers so if you have one tiny tree you'll have hundreds of drunk sleeping bumblebees on the ground around it at any time. It's hilarious they roll around because they're too heavy to take off. I had a meyer lemon tree in Ottawa and it brought all the bees to the yard.

    • @terryt9833
      @terryt9833 4 года назад +73

      @Brains00007 If you put a tent over them in the winter or put them in the garage, mine was only about a meter high and in a planter so I could move it into the garage and when it got too big for that I just made it a makeshift roof and tarp to keep heat in. Otherwise it probably would have died, I don't think it could handle the snow given it got up to two feet deep in some parts of my yard.

    I’ve been to this beautiful part of Italy and I went to go and visit Amalfi, and on every street and corner were fresh lemons and oranges outside shops. They weren’t like the ones you get in the supermarket back home. These things were huge, and my God they smelled good. There are many places that are supposed to be the ‘go to’ places, and they’re never as good as they are made out to be, but this corner of Italy really needs to be seen to understand and appreciate its beauty. Would go back in a heartbeat.

That's why what it changes from a family to another its their lemons scent, how sweet you want it adding more or lesser sugar, and how strong you desire the flavor by pouring lemon zest more or lesser days in alchool. Enjoy your preferred limoncello brand. 😀😎😘

    Litterally after watching this video I went and bought a bottle. My new obsession. It taste is like a lemon head but without the sour. It’s sweet lemon and hard liquor. Amazing.

      Try making your own...Very easy, and extremely rewarding. Lemons of choice, take ONLY the peel (no pith). Steep in grain alcohol in a cool dark place for no less than 3 months. Clasp top 2L jars work best. After, strain out the pith, mix 1:1 with homemade simple syrup. The key to the whole process...when you make the syrup, allow it to come to room temperature on its own. Mix the alcohol and simple syrup together. The recipe I was given by an old italian woman was 1kilo sugar:1 liter of water. I found this to be too sweet, I use 400g sugar:1 liter water. You'll know you did it right if the solution does not separate soon after. We drink as desert, but it is also fantastic to use in baking, lemon curd etc...We often gift small 300ml bottle around the holidays.

    These lemons used to grow wild in Florida. As a kid we would find these lemons--we called them Horse Lemons--on trees in the wilderness through which we trekked. We collected them, and took them home where we ate them by dipping the wedge's bitten end into a bit of salt. They were delicious that way. Sadly, I haven't seen a Horse lemon in decades.
