    I have owned a sauna for about 17 years. I have one that is far infrared that I have now in my home and a full spectrum sauna at my massage business with led light therapy. I have done a lot of research and what I understand is that the infra red wave lengths penetrate anywhere from 4-6 inches into the body and release heavy metals and other toxins in the tissues to be released through sweat. I’ve read that they have studied the sweat to find this. But I love the way I feel regardless of what it’s doing! Thanks for the video!

    I cut my adult teeth in Europe. We sauned every Monday where we spent three hours getting in and out of the sauna. Always plunging into cold water and then rest with hydration. Repeat. It was a beautiful ritual. Winter we sauned more often. Since Covid, I’m out of the ritual.

    Thanks, Penn. Very interesting items listed. Question in regards to brain health (ie: dementia, alzeimers), does the sauna blanket (head is not exposed to sauna) offer the same benefits as the walk-in (fully immersed) sauna?
    Thank you ❤

    • @nikigfied4939
      @nikigfied4939 4 месяца назад

      I'm not familiar with benefits for dementia or Alzheimer's, but the sauna blanket she has is an infrared sauna. So it uses infrared to heat up core temperature rather than the traditional sauna with steam. So you should still be getting the benefits even though your head isn't exposed. I would reach out to Higher Dose (company that makes it) and ask. They are knowledgeable and make really good products. Generally speaking most resources consider infrared to be healthier. I'm not affiliated with Higher Dose. I just have the same exact blanket and really like it.

    Hello from Finland! Just had sauna today, also yesterday. But the real one not the bag one.But I would also like to have infrared sauna too, in that bag form very practical! Just remember to throw WATER on the stones in real saunas. I caused horror multiple times in gym and hotel saunas in USA as I have done that. The dry low heat is NOT bringing any health benefits. Its not hot enough. EDIT also if you can, use a cold shower in between the heat. Will bring health benefits up even more. I have a sea 2 min walk away from my home so I can go and swim in spring when the sea is still really cold. Some swim in winter too.

    Ok goofy question. We’ve had an infrared sauna for many years. I get my hair blown out every week because I have extremely thick dry and coarse hair. I want to do sauna more than one time a week (I usually did it the night before my blowout) any tips on keeping my hair from getting sweaty and greasy? I use a headband and pull it up in high bun.

    • @PENNSMITHSKINCARE
      @PENNSMITHSKINCARE  4 месяца назад

      Honestly my hair is my biggest challenge with sauna.
      I try to time my sauna this way:
      I’ll sauna in the evening and let my hair just dry (no where to go, nothing to do etc). Then I’ll sauna the next morning early and wash my hair after.
      If I do that rotation twice a week I get 4 sauna sessions in.
      So for you you could sauna in the evening, sauna the next AM early then get your blowout. Get as many days as you do and repeat the process (and you wash and do your own hair if you get pro blowouts and don’t want to do that twice a week).
      Just an idea! 🩷

      @@PENNSMITHSKINCARE so much great information. My shower has a steam sauna setting that I need to get back into using. The problem with steam saunas is they necessitate a hair washing so I just need to plan accordingly. That’s one reason the blankets are so appealing 😀

      Heat can, yes. I haven’t noticed mine flare in sauna heat but in warm temps with sun (even out of the sun) my pigment gets worse. I don’t know why one flares me and the other doesn’t.
      There is no doubt others with melasma will have it flare in sauna heat. If you have melasma and you’re wanting to try sauna I’d try it at a gym, spa etc before investing in an at-home sauna.

    • @PENNSMITHSKINCARE
      @PENNSMITHSKINCARE  4 месяца назад +1

      It’s a concern for sure.
      It’s interesting because I do not notice a flare at all in sauna heat but in heat from the sun I absolutely notice more pigment than just from the rays.
      I need to find an expert to understand the mechanism of action that might make the heat different.
      That said, if you know that heat flares your melasma I would definitely do a test run at a gym or spa before ever buying a sauna. 🩷

    You didn’t talk about the different types of saunas. You should probably be specific about the type of sauna you are using. There are differences between using an infrared sauna and the old school steam type saunas. For people new to the sauna conversation, they will be very confused about what type of sauna you’re talking about and whether any type of sauna shows these benefits or just the infrared.
