Good idea. I think I might use airplane cable instead of rope. What stops someone from cutting the rope and dropping the flaps down to take what is inside? Just a thought.
Good idea! So far the ropes seem to be working, but I did see some good ideas for some permanent metal arm hinges that would work similar to what you are mentioning, if that does happen, I'll have to look into that upgrade.
Instead of having ropes or wires that can be cut just use an inner lower platform which is angled. There’s then no way for porch pirates to get to the parcels
I was worried you could just pull on the ropes and open the lid the opposite way, but then realized the hinges probably prohibit them from swinging any further
Yes, but that's pretty bold of a porch thief to sit there cutting open the box to steal packages inside. This has been in use for several years now and no one has tried this.

Thanks for the video! I will build this but with hidden screws and using a tensed and braided steel cables, or maybe a chain with braided steel around it. Or maybe pneumatics connected to the top lid, with the hardware hidden in between the panels... Hmmm need to think if it would be overkill lol
good idea but i think the ropes will be cut easily maybe chains/ metal cables would be better. also try more of a mechanical advantage with that lever system up higher so even if they bypass it they cant get the packages straight back out kinda like a "S" shape!
So if you open the box and cut the ropes, the 2 panels that block access to the package fall down...giving access to the package from the top. Is that correct?
That's correct, although that is a couple of extra steps a thief will have to take instead of just grabbing the package and run. I can happily report that even though we had several packages stolen before the box, 0 packages have been stolen since :). A lot of times thieves are lazy and don't want the risk of extra time that it would take to do this.
I only wish you added measurements as you went along so i could actually follow this. But i'll figure that out what i need for myself and will most likely use chain instead of rope for mine. It looks great though.
Hey sorry! This is one of my first projects on here and I did not create plans. Let me look and see if I can find dimensions or just measure the box to see how big it is. But thank you for the feedback! I'm glad this was helpful!
So those flaps limits the height of the package you can receive. I was going to buy one which had one flap inside but that would even limit the height further
To a certain extent yes, but whatever weight you can lift the lid at, transfers to the ropes then to the inner lid, so you can easily do 40 to 50 lbs and not damage the box.
Thank you! Sorry I don't have plans, this was one of my first RUclips videos and I didn't do any plans for this one! There are several plans out there for similar type boxes, but unfortunately nothing for this one!
This is the original list I used to make it, but it might not be perfect for what we exactly used: 33' 2X4 125' 1x4 1 ".5"" plywood sheet" 1 Door Hinge 2 Lid Hinge 1 Rope or Lift 1 Lock mechanism Box "1.5"" screws" Box "2.25"" screws" Pocket hole screws
Yeah, crazy people... Pretty easy build, in hindsight I think we would make ours smaller if we did it over again, but so far it has been used quite a bit.

Today I learned there is a dewalt to ryobi battery adapter. I guess it makes sense, Ryobi makes a lot of homeowner stuff that Dewalt does not and some people really want their high end tools.
Yeah they are aftermarket devices. I use the badapter ones that you can find on eBay. Pretty much any battery has an adapter out there to work with others.
instead of the flaps that probobably wont work for keep smaller packages from getting snatched, i think im gonna go with a electronic keyless entry system that works with the UPS garage door opener service... basically with an arduino emulate a garage door lock and they have a system where they can use their universal garage code system to open it.

If anything is truly valuable and not just eventual women's underwear or groceries , I would always suggest picking up at the store. I don't even have replacement credit cards or bank cards delivered to the mailbox now because ours was broken into. I picked up everything at the bank. Because they will do that for you with your cards.

I will build this. This is the best one I've seen so far. Thank You.
Glad you like it! Good luck and hope the project turns out well!!
A sincere thank you for sharing this diy drop box. God bless
Thank you for watching! Glad it was helpful for you
Cut Ropes = full access to package

Sweet idea for the safety door!
Why thank you sir

So what is preventing them from taking the whole storage unit?
It's pretty heavy, it would take 2 guys or one very strong person to lift that thing and take it. Not quite the same as stealing just a package :)
So those flaps limits the height of the package you can receive. I was going to buy one which had one flap inside but that would even limit the height further

This is awesome! Great job! Do you have a plan for this? I want to make one for our place too
Thank you!
Sorry I don't have plans, this was one of my first RUclips videos and I didn't do any plans for this one!

Do you happen to have a material list you could share?
This is the original list I used to make it, but it might not be perfect for what we exactly used: 33' 2X4
125' 1x4
1 ".5"" plywood sheet"
1 Door Hinge
2 Lid Hinge
1 Rope or Lift
1 Lock mechanism
Box "1.5"" screws"
Box "2.25"" screws"
Pocket hole screws
I still can't believe somebody stole the diapers! Super cool project though. Now I want to make one for our porch
Yeah, crazy people... Pretty easy build, in hindsight I think we would make ours smaller if we did it over again, but so far it has been used quite a bit.
use a metal chain
instead of ropes
we would buy 💵
You are showing a ryobi nailer what battery are u using
There is adapters that let you use batteries from other lines. So I'm using a DeWalt battery here.
What are the measurements?
Hey sorry! This is one of my first projects on here and I did not create plans. Let me look and see if I can find dimensions or just measure the box to see how big it is.
@@projecttedford477 thank you I appreciate it
How much was all the material ?
This project was done several years ago now, but I believe the total cost in materials was around $100
love it
A cut list would be nice
Nothing will stop a thief short of a safe. It only keeps the honest people out.

Very interesting idea, I like it!
but you cut the ropes and it opens up?

I picked up everything at the bank. Because they will do that for you with your cards.
I guess if I had an entire woodshop and $80k worth of tools I’d build one similar to this.
Lol, I promise you it's not nearly that much in tools. $10,000 might be stretching it. Really you could do it with $500 worth of tools
Could have saved some time on the stencils by saying parcels . . . 😋
😅, next time!
can't hear a word you are saying
Sorry Whitney, this was the first video I ever made and I apologize for the audi, trying to get better at that!
Playing video at 2X speed and it's like watching at normal speed. Why are you moving/doing everything so damn slow?!?! Like, seriously! Jeez man...
It was my first video ever, I've definitely learned some things since I made this one! But I appreciate the criticism, it helps me get better!
Knife
Someone mentioned using chain instead of rope. I don't think your common porch pirate will have bolt cutters on him/her.
Yes, but that's pretty bold of a porch thief to sit there cutting open the box to steal packages inside. This has been in use for several years now and no one has tried this.
NOT A GOOD DESIGN
I'm sorry you think so! What could I have done better?
