Love the wife throws out a challenge and you just go with it. You sir are an excellent teacher and demonstrator. Learned something about the circular saw. Thank you for sharing.
FANTASTIC! I want to build one of those. We get amazon daily. My wife is addicted. I have everything but the latch and roofing tar. I love to see videos where the build is with limited tools. I will use my table saw, etc, LOL, but it's great to see the minimalist approach. Thanks, even though I'm a few years late....🧔♀
Well done Tyler. Kind of fun to go back to basics once in a while... I seem to have to do that every time I visit my kids out of state and they have hardly any tools... LOL
Ok, I have been doing carpentry a lot of years but really was never trained. I can fake it pretty good but am very slow. I am NOT a carpenter. I'm just cheap. Why pay someone else to do it if I am physically able to do it for myself? And I love tools! I never really knew how to use a speed square... until tonight. I have always sucked at angles. And I did not know about the tilting jigsaw blade. I have so many other projects I want to do now! I can't wait to use my new knowledge! ~subscribed~
You even used the plans that 'the wife' drew for you. Too easy. Good fun! Now you need to add home automation so you know when something has been delivered!.
Just today, I was thinking about the need for something like this. In my case, not for weather protection, but for theft deterral. I want to work in a combination door lock so the driver can just put the package in and slam the door, because I don't think they're going to take the time to hang a padlock in the hasp and lock it. Also, when I'm going to have multiple deliveries in one day, I can put the combination in the delivery instructions and they can (if they will) open it easily to put more bling in the box for me. Your design will work well with this idea. Thanks!
This is a great project, looks surperb. I`m going to challenge myself to make this out of scrap pallets.I hope mine turns out somewhere near as nice as yours. Thanks for the idea.
Awesome build! How did I miss this one? Oh yeah, it was around Thanksgiving! I know just the place for something like this for our own home, and you better believe I'm going to make one soon. Thanks, Tyler, and 'The Wife' for an excellent project!
I just completed a "Wife Challenge" to make a Christmas tree that hangs from the ceiling. She showed me an image of a low-cost copy of a tree from modernchristmastrees dot com. She thought it would be cat-proof. She underestimated our cats.
Hey guys, You might want to run a cable or string from the latch to the inside so a small one can get out if they decide to use it as a hiding place in a game of hide and go seek.
Tyler - let me make this look easy with only 3 tools! Me - 18 hours later...sweaty and frustrated mess with uneven pieces and parts of 2x4's laying everywhere! ;-)
Good idea James! Would definitely increase some capacity but I have doubts it would be cheaper....if you got PT wood anyway, it would probably be cheaper if you used none treated.
I liked the video. great idea. I'm not a carpenter so I need to ask how you came about the cut dimensions when measuring out the roof joists? 1 5/8" for example on the birds mouth?
For sure. We do have a cute delivery sign coming in the mail for the door, also will be adding delivery Instructions to our orders until everyone gets the hang of it!
@@_the_wife_3323 In my area the delivery persons either don't read (or can't read at all) the instructions. Simple instructions like "Leave Package At Back Door" always insures the package will end up in the driveway or somewhere near the garage. lol
I’ll admit, I thought it was gonna be a boring video, but it wasn’t at all. I think most of us like to see projects done in the shop, but this was a nice change. The only issue I see is that (it looks like) the right side is a couple inches into the doorway where someone can catch the edge of the roof.
We are adding delivery Instructions to our orders until everyone gets the hang of it. Also have a "Packages and deliveries here" sign posted on the door now, link in description. So far all of our packages have been safely tucked inside 👍 Thanks for watching!

my conclusion....You don't really must to have a table saw or more big tools for great woodworking projects. I have many tools but not a table saw yet :-) this encourage me to go out and build something
The challenge is to design a drop box that can accept several package deliveries per day and each package remains secure from theft between deliveries. A padlock or key code instructions just don't work because delivery people won't do it. It's "not in their job description" and and each box they encounter could have different instructions. The box needs to be large enough to accept several reasonably sized packages and still be smaller than a Buick. Forget the use of smart locks, apps and complicated electronics to manage entry as these drive the unit cost sky high. The "Danby Parcel Guard" drop box can accomplish the criteria, but still retails for $550.00
One of our design ideas was a Dropbox much like a library has, slotted and curved but hidden in a bench style. We would open the padlock to retrieve packages and that would be that. Theft of packages with this design might be a problem, but we would have a bigger problem if people wandered onto our property here in the country. So this works beautifully for us. Thanks for watching!
I don’t know why it took so long for this to pop up in the maker community. Packages are such an essential part of Daily life that they should be integrated into the home design
