Such a charming park that would’ve done fine on its own. There really was no reason to close this. Six Flags could’ve easily sold the park instead of clearing the land, and still made a profit. Parking couldn’t have been too hard of an issue to fix.

I've said the same thing repeatedly and I've never BEEN to Astroworld. I get six flags was in or near bankruptcy around this time but they could have just sold it and the rides or I don't know Fixed the parking and got rid of La Ronde? Seriously they could have ended the lease with the Montreal Government and gotten out of La Ronde. I mean don't your year round or may to feb parks kind of keep you in liquidity when your other may to october parks can't operate? Or do I not understand the amusement park industry.

They made bad decisions. They are probably killing themselves for letting go of Six Flags Elitch gardens in Denver right about now. The city is forcing the amusement park out because the land is so valuable now.

I went as a kid the first or second month it was open, then each year at least once after that. I told my parents I was going to work there when I was older after that first visit, and a few years later, I did. It was the job that taught me the most about working, and I treasure every friend I made there to this day.

Your welcome. I was born one year before Astroworld was built and went pretty much every year it operated. I had season passes during my high school days in the 80s and went practically every week. Houston really needs another major amusement park. They should just rebuild Astroworld in the Astrodome. It would save the Dome and we would have an amusement park with AC.

It was a bunch of corporate BS. They ended up getting much less for the property and with the cost of dismantling the park they made little money on the deal. Six Flags should have sold it to another company if they didn't want it.

    • @ItsSiebay

Sean Lewis Premier Parks and Six Flags did well enough on their own honestly. Yeah, Premier was a lesser known company, but that’s because of their marketing strategy. The two companies were similar and worked in the past which is why they felt combining wouldn’t be an issue. It wouldn’t have been if they didn’t overspend. Not to mention, they had way too many parks to oversee. (30+ parks in 2003)
I agree. By no means did AstroWorld have a reason to close. Every other park they sold off, they could’ve done the same for this one.

I remember anytime the park would lose power for whatever reason, the only ride that could still operate was greased lightning or the train because they were steam operated. On the greased lightning we would leave a pretty good gap in the lap bar so when you get to each peak you would literally float for a few seconds! Aww the memories like riding the dungeon drop or sky screamer and putting change on your knee and watch a quarter float as your falling, that's why every car on the sky screamer had change stuck inside of it.

Just like most people living in Houston tx when Astroworld was open my sister's and cousin's and our friends all got season passes every year and pretty much lived there every summer. My parents would drop us off and give us 10 bucks each and we would be there from the time they opened until right before they closed, a lot of great memories there growing up.

I live in Montreal and during the summer, I go to Laronde and while riding the monster, I can see the old blue and red Texas cyclone cars. I don’t know why exactly they’re there but it’s cool.
We also have the old serial thriller named Ednör.
I think it’s cool to have old relics from an old park but it’s also sad that I never got the chance to go. Looking at your footage, it looks so awesome and I wished I could have gone there but I was only 4 when it closed for good in 2005.

Everytime I see these videos of Astroworld I get sad. Astroworld was so much fun and I'm glad it was around when I was a kid.I think closing this park was the WORST IDEAL EVER!! Astroworld gave kids and families somewhere to go during holidays, spring break and summers.Kept kids out of trouble. Then middle schools and high schools had physics day at Astroworld.Astroworld location was perfect and it gave our city a certain appeal, now we got a horrible eye sore and if we want to go to a theme park we have to go to Galveston for those sorry and minimal rides or we have to wait til the rodeo carnival or leave the city.I don't think that's fair at all.We need Astroworld back.

Hey, I was there that day. Came back the last day to try and get back in to buy some merch. All the stores along the entrance had lines streaming out of them, but a security who was about about our same age let us in, marched us up to the front of the line and told the cashier to let us through to get whatever we wanted. When we turned around to thank him-he was gone. I got latte mug with all the Astroworld roller coasters on it. I still have it. I have never forgotten that ask of kindness on such a sad day for me.

Man the memories I have of Astroworld😅. This was truly a place for teens to have loads of fun and no parental oversight. Back then most of us knew how to act in public so we didn't get too out of hand. My sister and I had season passes from about 1985-89. My parents would drop us off around 2 and we would stay there all day. Fright Night was the most fun of all the themes 👍🏽. It's sad that they closed it down but later on there were so many fights and bad actors that it probably affected turnout. Thanks for this awesome video!

We were a 5 minute bus ride and almost every summer, our parents got us season passes, so there was a point in my childhood where we were going to Astroworld literally 2-3 times per week. Such a waste, the management poured so much effort into this park only to recieve a closure and loss of their jobs. Everyone worked so hard to spruce the park up and decorate really good for the closing weekend when us old employees would be there. I miss this place so much I spent 5 summers working there and I wish it was there for me to share with my grandson.
