after a few dozen tutorial videos, both by SketchUp and individuals, you are the first one to mention keyboard short keys for the tools. Combine that with the fact that you showed me how to multiply objects for framing renderings and you are now my favorite person.....sheesh....its hard to find good tutorials these days. Thanks for the instructive video, you've earned a subscriber for sure, and i look forward to watching all your old videos and waiting for new ones :-)
OMG, thank you! No other SketchUp tutorial shows you the info in the measurement box, they just say it and go so fast, you have such a nice voice pace and actually show the info you type in to make the tools work. You da best!
You deserve youtube award of the year. TNice tutorials video truly nails it! Very well explained... The way you cut the bullsNice tutorialt and get straight to it..
It also works for rotating an object too. Like drawing say a bicycle weeks spokes. You draw now spoke rotate it 10 deg or so then hut X36 and it will make a 10 deg rotation 36 times.
It doesn't multiply in a strange way. You have the original and you multiply it by 5. The total will be 5. That's including the original. Like 5*1=5 as it always was and is. But I agree it can give an confusing impression. Good video. Among many, in my opinion, the way you explain things (in all of your tutorials) makes you one of the best. Very clear and understandable. Thanks
Awesome, helpful, and well explained. Just thought I would mention: SketchUp is multiplying and dividing the length or space between the first two objects, not the number objects. That's why the dimension box still says Length. In a row of objects, there will ALWAYS be one less space between objects than the total number of objects. That's why it's "off by one." :)
Great video. Saved me a ton of time. I don't get the criticism. Nor do I get twenty comments explaining "5 fingers, 4 spaces". One comment on that issue was plenty.
God bless you; busy works soft has notNice tutorialng on tNice tutorials. I feel more comfortable from watcNice tutorialng tNice tutorials in mins than I have ever before.
@myownstarbucks I checked into this and it looks like there is a bug or they have disabled it in the current version. I"m having the same problem. A good workaround is to divide based on the number of segments you want, then measure one of the segments manually with the tape measure. - Cameron
just another tip, you can use the multiply command, using, instead of *, the x letter, so, if you want 5 objects, after copying, type 5x and you get 5 copys (keep in mind that the first one, that was the first copy is included in this 5 number)
When you give the copy command by control+Alt move tool, the copying operation is not finiished yet, so you write *5 to multiply the objects. result is original+ 5 objects. I believe nothing odd in software. Thanks for sharing videos.
'divide by' is the 'total' you want minus 2 ( 1 for the 1st object 1 for the last object = the minus 2) You can also copy group objects. As an example I needed 20 shipping containers to fit a space with equal spacing, so as I copy the first container 'group' using ctrl (on pc) to the end location the 'total distance away including the spaces' The maths for that is easy too: in this example if I have an 8 foot wide container x 20 the total length of containers aligned by width is 160' wide then add the spaces which are also 1 less than the total. So lets say 19 spaces of 1' between each, the total would be 160+19 = 179', i would therefore type 179' after I select copy mode press enter then type /18 to fill the space with the rest of the containers. So to have 40 objects copy both and divide by 38. For a total of 10 objects copy both and divide by 8 and so on...To add spacing times the spacing amount by the total minus 1 and add that to the total width of the objects. hope that helps
Your show has been most helpful. I do have a problem with my "divide command". I get the red squares when I right click on the line but I it is not showing me the dimensions such as 6 equal spaces @ 3'-0" (it used to show that info but for some reason it disappeared). Can you tell me why and how to fix that?
Thank you for the post. It was very helpful. I do have a question about another scenario though. Let's say you were using a round post instead of a square post. How could you accurately set the distance from the edges as you did with the square post, before increasing the amount? I am not able to measure from the edge of the floor to the edge of the round post, and have no idea at what distance I am. With a square post, this is not a problem. If my measurement is not equal between the two end poles to the edge, how can I adjust that while keeping the spacing between all the poles the same?
Okay, I figured out my problem. I deleted all of the posts that I had previously made. I then increased the decimal count for more precision. From there, when making my circular post, I learned it's very important to enter that number manually after starting the circle. It is near impossible to set a perfect number with a .000 reading using a regular mouse. I did group my floor first, as you suggested. After I had the diameter circular post that I wanted, I checked to insure that it was centered. It can be tricky to check these measurements because you have to pretty much begin from the middle area of the object you're measuring from, which may look like the wrong area to begin with. Once I figured this out, putting down distances to check for centering was easy. In my case, I wanted my posts to go through a length of the floor. I hid the floor, and then used the push/pull tool to get the length that I wanted, and immediately grouped it. After that I made the floor visible again. From there, it was simply following your instructions on how to move, copy, and multiply. I'm still having only one issue I that I haven't quite figured out yet. After I've entered the amount of posts that I wanted with the multiplication sign, I scrolled out to get a better view of my project, and my object was deselected. I didn't click on anything else as I wanted to be able to change that number if needed. If my number was off, I had to first delete what I had added, and enter a different number. Nothing too difficult, but it would be nice if I knew why my object keeps getting deselected when scrolling out with the mouse wheel to get a better view. Leaning a little more, bit by bit. Thanks again for your videos.
Good day, I have a component file that I normally import whenever I want to design but what I need is for the component to become part of the sketch up file that I can easily edit
Hi this is very useful however I was looking for an options key on my keyboard and couldn't find one. So enter google where I discovered that you were using a Mac. Its sorted. An excellent tutorial.
Excellent video 11 years later, amazing. I'm using this on almost every drawing now, thank you sir.

thank u very much it saved a decade of hours spent on that :)
The move tool + option to copy is a game changer! Will add hours to my life
i dont get it, where/what is option??
You are a legend, you helped a lot and you explained it really great!
@MrGiejose Yes you can. It works really well.
Great job. I should learn this years ago. Thank You
Thank you! This is immensely helpful!
Thanks. I am fairly new to Sketchup. But I love learning and creating with it.
Thank U Sir, I learn a lot from u..your explanations are very clear..
I’ve watched hours of videos and tNice tutorials one is the first that explains it in a way a complete beginner could understand! Great video
great job pro, respect from algeria.
@welmance That's a fantastic way of explaining it! I'm going to use that next time I do a show.
Thank you so much! Very helpful:)
Awesome stuff -- thanks for posting this! Thumbs up for you :-D
Thanks bud! great video and instructions.
the best G.sketchup tutorial!!!
This really help. Thank you so much 🥰
THank you Sir!....its very useful..God bless you..
thank you so much!! very usefull!!
Great explanation - thanks!!
thanks man it was vvvvvvvery helpful and undrestendable thank you very much
1 (copy) *5 = 5 (copies). I hope this clears some confusion.
Kudos to this video tho, very efficient.
Awesome Thanks man!!!
Your video was so helpful thnx, and yo hace nice voice.
Thank you!
i love you... so much dude. really helpful
Dear Michael, it's you that make register for youtube, I follow your tutorial from bilibili to your channel here and I'll continue to support
Thanks. Glad you find it helpful. -Cameron
What is the option key? (in order to swap move tool to copy tool?)
Great tutorial.
Thanks
THANK YOU SO MUCH what a big help this has been for this BEGINNER lol lol lol Thanks again
Great video. BTW it is counting the spaces between the object and not the objects themselves.
Thank you man for sharing this stuff
Very nice explanatory video!
thankyou!!! it works!
Excellent, thanks.
wow this is really a fantastic hidden features
thanx
Will start to learn it tomorrow, lets be patient pips! Godbless us haha
nice one it make my work easier thanks and keep it up

my fav and tysvm for this tutorial it was helpful❤️
You're the best at teaching with sketchup! :)

iam happy that i understand so basics
Awesome bro
THANK UUUUU!!!
handy for resetuping s or creating karaoke tracks. Thanks for the recomndation!
production. Thanks again!
i love you man
Thank you! :)
Thanks you very much, that was useful
thank you
Worked, thx
Great! thanks.
Thank you
Ty it actually helped😮
If you look at the operation as a multiple copy command, the 5 nos that it creates is correct. The first copy is not a separate copy command
helpful thanks.
BRO! THANKS!
thanks bro.very Good
It would be cool if for example you had a curving staircase and it could add the verticals in up the spiral. Is that possible?
now i am in a good mood
so much. Can’t wait to start making soft.
Nice tutorial

thank you so much
can i use this on circle objects like draw spokes on bicycle tyre? Or use it on a spiral path or similar...?
Emmanuel Chukwunonso don't worry. When I first started setuping I felt the exact sa. Just keep ssing around with a DAW and you
style I downloaded the demo to soft soft yesterday, and I'm going to learn from you to make my own stuff, and I wanted to leave tNice tutorials
Good !!!Thnx pal

Is this feature only usable on straight lines or can we also use this to follow on curved lines or surfaces?
Hi this is very useful however I was looking for an options key on my keyboard and couldn't find one. So enter google where I discovered that you were using a Mac.
Its sorted. An excellent tutorial.
For Windows user is this Ctrl key. More here: ruclips.net/video/p_znDvVJSXU/видео.html&t=4m
BTW, nice tutorial ;)
How do I switch off the "make group" ??
does this work for lines too, like to divide just an edge .
Thank you sir
