    Just started using SketchUp. Been working with AutoCAD LT at work. SketchUp is a different mindset, but works very well when used how it was designed. The info you have provided though your tutorials has been great. Thank you for taking the time to post these.

    All through the video I was like, "How is he flying around like that?" As soon as you started talking about the SpaceNavigator I was sold. I went straight to Amazon and bought one. If it works as advertised, you have accomplished marketing at its finest. You had me hooked on the product before I even knew what the product was.

    I have been watching all of your episodes up to this one in the last few days. I watched your episode about the space navigator last night and I immediately ordered the newer wireless version. I get it Friday, and I can't wait!! Your videos are incredibly detailed and I really appreciate that. Thank you for taking the time to do this!!

    Components will cut holes for you. You may need to adjust the component settings to make it work but you don't need to cut holes all the time. Make sure the component is set to "glue to: any" and check the cut opening box. Good to go. Your door/window will now snap to whatever wall you drag it to.

    @Fr33Styla00 You can change the color or texture of the door by using the Bucket tool, which I talk about in episode #17.

    I went to download a window from the warehouse, and you're right about people needing to keep their measurements reasonable. I found a nice window, but it was 115' x 105'. lol

    It is easier to center openings by drawing the rectangle somewhere on the wall and then dragging the center of the new rectangle, locking and dragging to the center on the wall. Quick

    @donluke578 I can certainly mention shortcuts more! If you watch some of the earlier videos where I'm covering the basics of SketchUp, I talk about keyboard shortcuts a lot. I use a Mac, but the PC and Mac versions of SketchUp are almost identical.

  • @harwoodpodcast
    @harwoodpodcast  12 лет назад

    @dannyfixit07 That's a very good point, and if you're doing this professionally you certainly need to pay more attention to those details. However, for a learning exercise or personal project like this, fudging an inch here or there is fine :)

  • @donluke578
    @donluke578 13 лет назад

    Excellent......I would like to hear you giving just a few more tidbits of info, that is, mentioning what keyboard shortcuts you are using to select any of the commands you choose. That would be even more helpful. I couldn't see if you were on a mac or a pc, which do you use? Thank you many times over !!

    I was going along very well using Sketchup 8 (didn't want to invest in Sketchup 2018 pro just yet) but 3d warehouse is no longer available for Sketchup 8 (i.e no models are compatible and can not be inserted) so....while I love the videos....guess I'll need to create a double door on my own and try to keep up. How disappointing....

    @ddredo The Space Navigator that I'm using isn't free, but it's fairly inexpensive considering what it allows you to do. If you do a lot of modeling it's certainly a worthwhile investment.

    yea but if you insurt/import door into another project and save it will that make it one modle or will it be seperate modles? and how would you animate the door without animating the whole structure its self.

  • @raymondedwards7063

    Your videos are very good but having said that I am having a lot of trouble placing doors for example.
    You simply place your door using a bottom left corner for example, I cannot seem to get that right on the push pull.
    Further when you place the door sketchup indicates whether it to large or small. When I try to do the same it the door does not seem to go back into the hole ( back to the push pull I suppose) more often than not the door disappears into the structure!
    Finally when I try to scale the door it snaps back to where I start to scale, presumably this has all to do with not placing the door properly in the first instance.
    Can you help?

  • @ZacharySalman

    Very nice tutorial. I don't know if I'd say it's advanced though. I would like to see some things like trimming the doors/windows, etc. because it's always the fine details that become confusing for me in Sketchup.
    Also isn't 6-1/2' too short for a door in real life? I thought that was a building code violation XD

    Excellent video! A question!! I work with 3ds max, but recently most architects send me their proyects with SketchUp. The problem i have is the geometry this generates. There's any workflow you recommend me, when going from Sketchup to 3Ds max (2016)? What im doing right now is build from zero the entire model in 3ds max, and using the sketchup only as reference
