This was the best "Get Started' Tutorial - its amazing how seeing results within minutes and feeling like you are using the tools make you want to keep learning more.
Love this format. It doesn’t assume the user already knows a bunch of the features of SketchUp, but at the same time it doesn’t beat you over the head with over explaining how to draw a line. Perfect for someone like me that’s figured out the very basic stuff and wants to start advancing a bit beyond just line drawings/floor plan stuff.
Wow! Thank you! So calm, slow and helpful. Love how you explain each move. I haven't looked at the rest of your videos but am hoping you have many more!
thanks! after being discouraged by advanced framing videos, this one is exactly what I needed. Now I can start my framing and learn on the way! you're excellent teacher.
This was fantastics. You're really good at explaining this stuff. I've watched a bunch of Sketchup tutorials and I'd say this was the best. Keep it up! Please do more.
Very helpful. I couldn’t help but notice one low hanging fruit here, but… the quickest and easiest way to build that model after you deleated it is to simply hit the “undo” keyboard shortcut 😎👍
brand new to this and found it very easy to follow you with the exception I'm not working on a Mac but figured out the different keys pretty quickly, going to follow your videos in the next few days need to draw up some pans for a project.
New to Sketchup and have looked a lots of videos. This is the best by far! The fact you are using Sketchup vs. Sketchup Pro is very helpful. Also, simple explanations with clear movement of cursor. Great job!
This was helpful to me because I was starting today this program and it helps a lot thanks so much. if I can give you high five i would really love but thanks from the bottom of heart ❤️
Great tutorial, loved it. Especially your description of why the first and last distance between the studs are different. I have to do some framing with a door. Would be nice to have a tutorial on. Thanks again for a great tutorial I feel ready to get started and much more knowledgeable.
Very well done, easy to comprehend, all 100% of it. And I agree with @ndamico, that this is the best/useful tutorial I've seen on Sketchup. And believe me, I've watched a bunch. Now subscribed and will look for more of your work. Thanks for taking the time to record this!
Excellent job on this one. However the task of creating walls gets more complex as you start adding windows and doors and then your client wants to move or resize those openings in the wall. Using just SketchUp and it’s native tools can get very tedious as you would then need to remodel a bunch of the geometry. That is why I would strongly suggest using an extension to draw walls, you get the flexibility of SketchUp but you also get the parametric or editing ability which makes things so much more efficient.
Absolutely amazing tutorial. Simple and to the point. You have a gift. I am in need of assistance. I want to build a 2 story shop/office space inside a metal building. I have a 30x60x18 metal building and want to build a 30x20x18 shop/office inside. Would you be available for hire?
just learning sketchup 2017. for each project i have a word document that i write the steps down. while watching these videos i use my temarkable 2 as i can annotate with drawings. yesterday, 9/13/24 i learned the FOLLOW ME command
We're in 2023. Is there not a software that has pre-existing lumber mock ups? Also, there should be an auto function that allows the software to recommend structual design. This is crazy.
You can save components and reuse them with a click of a button. I don’t know what you mean by “recommend structural design” but there are very sophisticated softwares out there. This one happens to be easy to use and free.
Another great tutorial. I would be interested to know how to add and show dimensions of a finished small project and or components to use in the workshop as a cutting sheet. Is this possible? Thanks.
Someone may have already said this, but in Windows, you do not use “Alt” to make a copy, you would use “Ctrl”. Took me awhile to figure out why I couldn’t copy that stud! Otherwise, good tutorial
Yes, this would be done with a tool called Layout. It's only available in the Pro version of Sketchup. Here's a video showing the process: ruclips.net/video/4tiuuTJwGRk/видео.htmlsi=vYrBeYSgH-l1Ieeg
I love your videos as this is only day 2 with sketch-up for me. I am on a pc. I do not see the unique option on mine, nor can I seem to push a stud down from the top plate. It wants to pull out the side but not push down the stud to jack stud height... very frustrating
A great video for learning the basics of Sketchup @structuredesign. We built a plugin that automates all of what you did in the video and, it enables you to adjust slab and footing thickness. With framed walls you can parmatrically create and edit all wood framing, including junctions, top/ribbon plates, headers & sills etc infinite times in just 2 clicks. After the wall is drawn you can also add or delete doors & Windows after the wall is drawn. Reach out if you would like to see it. Again great work, keep them coming.
Nice job explaining, however how come you did not make the slab a group instead of a component. I be looking for your next video. Thank you for sharing.
its ctrl to move a copy of a stud over on my windows 10 laptop. took me awhile to finally figure that out. alt does some other function. at the bottom of the screen in sketchup. it says what alt and ctrl are doing.
It's crazy that they don't have pre made boards that you can just rotate and configure any way you please. No reason we should have to make and paint them one by one.
You don’t have to make and paint them one by one, you only have to make one. You can not only copy it, but you can also save it as a component and always use it from your component list with the click of a button.
Perfect. Lots of fun. I hope there is an addon that does a materials count. Say how many 2x4x8 footers are needed including all the other stuff that this tutorial doesnt cover like window and door material.
This was probably the best and most useful SketchUp tutorial I’ve watched.
Checkout our layout tutorials
Not too fast, not too long, I really appreciate this format
Awesome tutorial, exactly what I needed.

Thank you for explaining everything, unlike others.
By far the most user friendly SketchUp tutorial I've seen on RUclips! Please continue to add more SketchUp content . . .💯
Thanks for sharing, excellent tutorial, very helpful. We appreciate more tutorials on framing and building sheds, cabins and tiny houses.
Thank you for sharing the tips and details along the way, super helpful
Wow! Thank you! So calm, slow and helpful. Love how you explain each move. I haven't looked at the rest of your videos but am hoping you have many more!
Great job on this. Very clear and well done. Thank you.

This was so helpful. Thank you!
Your video was more helpful than any other that I've watched. It was simple enough for me, a neophyte to understand. Thank you!
Keep up the good work. Straight to the point, with no fluff! I learned more here than I have in the last month looking at other vids!
Thanks a lot for the tutorial!
Great explanation of the steps
Great tutorial! Nice pace, just enough detail
This was excellent. Exactly what I needed !! Well done. Easy to follow and understand.
Thank you very much. I have been struggling with FreeCad and this looks much easier for this kind of drawing.
Excellent job ,quick and on point!
Very helpful. I couldn’t help but notice one low hanging fruit here, but… the quickest and easiest way to build that model after you deleated it is to simply hit the “undo” keyboard shortcut 😎👍
Good oh down to the earth tutorial!
Thank you, thank you and thank you, very well explained.🤗

Thanks for the vid! I'm completely new to any type of architectural software. This helped me a lot with the basics.
amazing tutorial, thanks so much. I'm trying to frame my unfinished basement
Wow, this is a great video! I was struggling with copy/paste but your instructions make it very clear, appreciate the step-by-step process.
Damn I’ve been struggling with understanding the tools and this really helped me out.
Amazing and helpful video , watching you from Honduras
the video was helpful for thecfew commands used. i overlooked the fact that the end walls top top plate would overlap the side walls lower top plate
very helpful tks, better than sketchup team imo
Good video, thanks

YOU DESERVE SPONSORSHIP!!! BUT NOT FROM ME, I'M BROKE.
thanks
Great. I can learn SketchUp and get the rust off my amateur carpentry skills (which includes simple furniture projects).
well done

For anyone having a problem using ALT to copy a component, hit the CTRL key instead

SketchUp does, but not the free version.
Thanks! Is it possible to do all this in the free version?
Another great tutorial. I would be interested to know how to add and show dimensions of a finished small project and or components to use in the workshop as a cutting sheet. Is this possible? Thanks.
How do I start ? Do I need an iPad ? Also the SketchUp does it take me right to this page to start designing?
awesome
Someone may have already said this, but in Windows, you do not use “Alt” to make a copy, you would use “Ctrl”. Took me awhile to figure out why I couldn’t copy that stud! Otherwise, good tutorial
Awesome tutorial! Love that x8 trick. Is there any way to print that with dimensions on it?
Yes, this would be done with a tool called Layout. It's only available in the Pro version of Sketchup. Here's a video showing the process: ruclips.net/video/4tiuuTJwGRk/видео.htmlsi=vYrBeYSgH-l1Ieeg

I’m not seeing a free version of sketchup anymore? Which paid version do you need for this?
How to change rect dimension after the rect has been drawn already?
which version of sketchup is this?
The free version

I'd like to know where to access that extension.

just curious? why would you want to make it a group?
Hello
Is there a way to print a list of materials based on the sketch Using the free version ?
As far as I know, this is only available in the Pro version.
@@CWebbTutorialsthank you!

Yes I’m on a Mac, had this wrong and corrected in the description. CTRL is the right key on Windows

Just made a video to answer this: ruclips.net/video/tfBi7UBiujs/видео.html
