In the first movie, the Minions were actually genetically engineered by Gru and Nefario, shown by background elements in the film and explicitly stated in the Universal Theme Park ride. Later films retconned this, making it so that the minions were an ancient species, allowing them to be inserted into historic events for the Minions movies. I do have a small theory that states that the number of Minions increased thanks to Gru and Nefario cloning them. There were significantly more Minions in the Despicable Me films compared to the Minions films.
They also did the same thing with gru and vector. The first movie made a big deal about how much younger vector is from gru, but rise of gru showes that both of them are the same age.
Something I love is how more people are really appreciating the despicable me franchise. The franchise really does have a bad reputation online because of the minions and questionable writing. Though some of the newer minion movies and despicable me 3 aren’t all that great. The first 2 are underrated gems. Glad you are covering these movies, can’t wait for more!
I thought Rise of Gru was pretty good. Way better than the first Minions movie in my opinion. Feels like Illumination has been getting a lot better with their movies lately, and it makes me hopeful for Despicable Me 4.

*clears throat* i have noticed that the minions killed Napoleon and hid in the cave during the winter time. The only amount of extreme winter weather Napoleon faced was during his retreat from Russia. This means that the minions hid out in Western Russia while they were actively moving west. This then leads me to believe that during Germanys invasion of Russia during the Second World War, there is a chance that they found the minions (as the Russians were pushed all the way to Moscow, just like the were by Napoleon). This means that the minions did indeed serve on the Eastern front for a time before retreating back into their cave possibly after the Germans were pushed back. They may have also served west of Russia and into Europe, and then retreated back to their cave, but that is unlikely. Anyway, that’s why the minions are nazis and you can’t convince me otherwise

to clear the misconceptions in this video : the thing with minions being with bad guys is exused, because in the minions movie they are stuck in a cave from the napoleon era to 1970s nefario called gru, but then learned that el macho sent an evil minion there so he went to rescue the girls nefario most likely always had the antidote, hes not as evil as he is they mixed the antidote with the jelly because 1. there wasnt a lot of it 2. there was a lot of the jelly 3. even a drop would be enough to cure the minions
I kind of agree with the OG point that you could have just mixed it with water, but yknow... they could always tie in a random plot point to it and 'give it closure, albeit not really'. But if i had to give my two takes... i'd say Dr. Nefario intentionally chose the jam because even he knew it was a failed formula and he was personally fed up with the jam business process and took out a bit of his frustration this way, by wasting the jam.
