Good sound advice with 'don't be afraid to experiment & fine-tune' being one of the main takeaways. Lots of people are buying bikes remotely with off-the-peg packages - so it's time to either factor in a pro' bike-fit or be prepared for a few dozen allen key rides. One of the leitmotifs of my crank length video was how interactive and individual the variables are - get a tape measure and a spirit level, write everything down and any tweaks are reversible. Good point re: flexibility and bar height. The 2000s saw the rise of the 'sportive/endurance bike' aimed at Fondo riders with a few grey hairs wanting more forgiving performance machines. Drop bar reach and depth have evolved too, which gives riders other options once their 'levers position' is set-up.
Thanks. I half thought about making the video with multi tool in hand adjusting all the bits mentioned but it would have been quite challenging to self-film outside and I also didn't want to muck up my set up (took a fair while to get it dialled in). As you say though - and a good tip - write your settings down and you can always revert back to them.
My old stomping ground, I know that route very well and how steep that hill is down to where old police station was, I’m over that way quite often still
The pedals are Shimano PD-M520. Shoes are about 7 years old now and I can't remember exactly what they are - Shimano MTBs for about £60 in Decathlon I seem to recall. Thanks for the comment and happy cycling!
Just treated my self to a Boardman 8.9 today changed the stem pedals and a few minor set up issues gear etc living in the south Wales valleys I would like to change the stock 11 30 to a 11 34 rear cassette is this possible with the stock derailleur?
I don't think there are mounts for having permanently fitted mudguards. I use the SKS Raceblade Pro detachable guards, which loads of people also seem to be using these days. There's a review vid elsewhere on my channel if of interest.
Didnt know you could move the hoods. Superb . Will double check mine👍
Very useful advice. Never really thought about adjusting the stem length before.
Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes, stem adjustment wasn't on my radar for the longest time. Happy cycling!

@@onemorecyclist I think you pitched it well and you can always gauge demand for any future in-depth spannering videos.
Sound advice. Thanks 👍

Lovely part of the world to ride a bike, isn't it (with fully functioning brakes!). Thanks for the comment. 🙂
Thanks for the great video. Which pedals and shoes are you using?

The 11-34 cassette went on mine without issue. Enjoy the new bike (good choice!).
@@onemorecyclist manythanks
Quick release should be on the left side buddy
On a rim brake bike, how come? I can't see a difference, beyond aesthetics? Something I'll look into though. Cheers for the comment and happy cycling!
Can you fit mudguards on this bike?
