I love this channel. It has got me back into cycling. It would be good to see some custom builds by yourself. Starting with a frame and showing us what parts you would select etc. You could do a budget build and a more expensive one. Keep this channel going it's great.
That’s great to hear Andy, enjoy all your time tinkering and riding your bikes. Me and my son make next to nothing off the channel so that content will definitely be coming but for now we cannot afford to do anything that isn’t a customers bike🧡⚙️
Love a SRAM groupset; very tactile. Rare enough to be interesting, not so rare to be a PITA to service. Great save on the BB/screw issue. No fuss, just put right with no histrionics. Some other YT channels could take a leaf from your book 👊
There are different cable guides, some are thicker some thinner. Many times the manufacturers get the length of the cable guide bolt wrong. Curiously last weekend I also had this issue but with a sealed cartridge BB. These bolts also rust and are a nightmare to remove. In fact some RUclips tutorials tell you to remove this bolt first before the BB. If I only could share pics.
U made working on the bike looked so easy. Encounter the bB issue before. Dun understand why the OEM will fit a screw that may creater this issue. Finding issues and even better applying solutions are the best parts of these video sharing. 😊
Would love the feel of SRAM on the rear shifting and Shimano on Front, I had force a while back and found the front was harder than I was used to, SRAM's electronic shifting solves this actually and changed my way of thinking with regards to shifting
In the 6 and a bit minute section it looks like the loss of paint on both the rear chainstay and the front fork (thin line and no other local scuffs / marks) was caused not by the wheel or tyre rubbing but instead by the little rubber fingers (for want of a better description) that are found on many brands of tyre. Had it with a set of P Zeros on a bike and after a couple of 1000 kms had the exact same marks that lined up with the fingers when I turned the wheels slowly. Pulled off the fingers and problem sorted.
Incredible job on the detailing. but wow that screw in the bottom bracket. Where was the QC on the production? Crazy that the bottom bracket was forced in like that.
Wow. Nice catch on the bb, very odd indeed. Love the channel and a real part of my weekly routine. Any news on the workshop changes? Thanks for the great content 🎉
Most enjoyable video as always. How can you tell which jockey wheels have bearings and the ones that don’t, and are they really worth the extra cost? Cheers 🍻
You've pressed in a bottom bracket without checking the shell diameter or bothering to face it. The paint alone must be a mm thick and it's obvious in the video that it's not flat.
@@Tarmaccyclocrossif people are coming to you to get the job done properly and paying for it, then the supplier should do the job properly. This is garbage
Great job as always. Just one little question: at 7:15 it is said "it's the drive side of the wheel" and the tire is mounted the wrong direction. But doesn't it look right (according to the little arrows and rear/front)? Just curious.
I think it was a missreading of the instruction from him here. It's rare to see a different direction front and rear on road tyres (being basically slick) but yes, I think it's an arrow saying that when installed on the rear it should point that way, and when installed on the front the other way, meaning it was correct as was. It's usually seen on off road tyres due to braking/cornering grip on the front, and forward drive grip on the rear. Shouldn't make a huge amount of difference on the slick though.
Boardman were independent but mostly sold through Halfords at first, they were branded “cBoardman” and had the yellow / white / black logos. Then Halfords bought them up and the branding changed to the “B” seen on this bike.
Lovely to see the new workspace, looks even more professional.! Another fantastic job, really nice to see a bike like this brought back to showroom condition. 🇫🇮😎
The workshop is far from finished! We’re waiting for huge new cabinets so we’re currently working off the small old workbench in a space twice the size! So stay tuned! Thanks Dean 🧡
I have only very recently come across this channel but really enjoy the attention to detail and the different projects ranging from well looked after modern bikes to garden finds and eBay purchases, so now I have subscribed. If you ever get the chance, or motivation, to do a video on daily cleaning and maintenance of bicycles, say after a ride in rain and/or mud, and what type and amount of cleaning and maintenance you would recommend following the ride. Also, since you have the website and shop, maybe it would be an idea to put together some kits say for daily maintenance, and possibly monthly and yearly too. I would personally be in the market for a daily cleaning and maintenance kit with e.g. soap, a coupe of brushes, the relevant oil and grease, and a couple of microfibre cloths, and whatever else might be a good idea to have.
Another bang-up job. Looking good. I've had the same issue with that very bolt, and spent a considerable time filing it down to fit. I'm sure you noticed the signs of under-rotation on the crank spindle as well. You must have decided it wasn't bad enough to warrant a replacement (or the customer wouldn't approve the expense).
To be honest, im trying to solve bike issues myself, and I use bike service when I cant figure out stuff, Honestly, my 2 out of 3 bikes are SRAM drive and honestly its the easiest system to set up and it always work almost first try with shimano - its harder and way more fiddly to set drive up.
I’ve literally just finished a full build on a second hand Decathlon Rockhopper 24inch MTB for my son for his birthday next week. I was going to buy a new one but after watching your videos and how bikes can clean up as long as the paint work is good I decided to go second hand route £80 for the Bike and a few hours stripping and cleaning every thing replace the headset and bottom bracket bearings and few new colour coded bolts on the brakes and new branded tyres, i T-CUT the frame and ceramic coated it and it looks better than a new one. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great job on a lovely and well ridden bike 😊. This is the first time I notice the cleaning fluid in the ultrasonic cleaner isn't pristine 😅. Thanks for the videos 🚲
I bought my boardman hybrid pro from Halfords bike hut,👎👎, who assembled it for purchase. Aside from cable stretch, i brought it back 4 times for issues with the brakes binding and bottom bracket squeak.
Had the same problem with a BB on a Boardman in the shop I used to work in. Funny to see this again
Seems from the comments it wasn’t just us, hard to believe it was like that from factory🧡
Excuse me while I grab my sunglasses to take in that shine.
lol 🧡😎
Can totally understand why so many mechanics dislike press-fit bottom brackets.
Absolutely
There’s so many problems on the poor quality of frame and bb’s that we end up fitting the bill for when they need replacing🧡
Very nearly bought one of these when I first got into cycling. The colour is stunning
We love a silver bike, it’s rare but very fun to clean up🧡
Beautiful rim brake callipers on this wagon. 👍

Thanks Nick! We’re waiting on a huge new cabinet then it will be complete 🧡
Great job sorting the bottom bracket. I wish we had a bike shop like BikeSpeeds near us.
Thanks Raymond! Glad you enjoyed it🧡
It's the small things that make the difference and you always find those small things. Nice looking bike.
That’s the goal! Thanks very much again🧡
What a lovely job! Im amazed the BB rotated so freely with that overlong screw fouling it.
Nicely detailed chaps👍

The electronic shifter / derailleur updates don't always deliver improvements as intended , especially if it is optimal performing already .
Nice work 😊👍🏻👍🏻

That bottom bracket screw and yes I was thinking the same thing as u
Good work

Thanks for another great vid 😊 Just a few mm of screw - kind of scary how something so tiny can cause such problems!

SRAM is underestimated.

When you take the silver jockey wheel covers off you will either see or not see a bearing! We think they definitely are worth it actually🧡⚙️
Another great video
One question: for press-fit bottom brackets - grease? or Loc-Tite?
Cheers!
In our experience grease! www.bikespeeds.com/shop premium grease in fact!🧡

Very nice job. It does seem like Carbon fiber Bikes have a lot of problems with the bottom brackets where your aluminum and steel bikes do not ?
It’s more to do with press fit and cheap bottom brackets, however it’s a very common problem in todays cycling which is mostly carbon fibre 🧡
Aren't Boardman bikes Halfords bikes? Halfords have a terrible reputation for bike build quality. Hence the BB issue probably.
Boardman were independent but mostly sold through Halfords at first, they were branded “cBoardman” and had the yellow / white / black logos. Then Halfords bought them up and the branding changed to the “B” seen on this bike.
As someone that lives in an apartment with no hose hookup is the detailing and washing you do ok for daily cleaning?
Absolutely, never used a hose or jet washer 🧡

Very common in the bike industry!🧡

Sram cranks always spin poorly. Bearings overloaded and stiff, so I never seen this cranks spin so free. Ironically.
