Thought very seriously about waiting for this bike. But in the end the Vitus Vitesse Evo just edged it for me. Another very reasonable sub £4000 bike, great review on the Boardman though. Echo what many have said, good to see a review of a sensibly priced bike. The review of the Vel wheels done a while back encouraged me to go for those wheels. Great RUclips channel!
I’ve got one. Done a few thousand km this year. Been faultless. Can’t say I find the ride uncomfortable, but agree that the bar tape isn’t great. As a package at this price point it is unbeatable. It’s a quick bike. 👍
This version was named as "Bike of the year" by Bike Radar so decent reviews have already taken place. This review backs that winning formula again. Nice to see a bike not costing £10,000 ! But, that said I would still favour a Giant TCR !
SLR 9.0 rim braked bike happy owner here! It is the best bike I've ridden, I'm in love with it. It weighs just half a kilo more than yours, the major difference is in the rims being alloy. I also miss the wireless shifting, 1 cog and disk brakes. Though I don't really need these for my type of riding. And the price of 9.0 being half of the 9.4 makes it much more reasonable choice in my eyes. Yes the alloy handlebar and the rim tape are of bad quality, I plan to upgrade them soon. And go tubeless once the Rubinos wear out.
Good Review David - I have the Boardman SLR - Race signature. Campag Record throughout and deda superzero finishing kit. It is an amazing bike, i have had it 2 years and love it. 7kg, superfast, stiff and can't fault it. This was their race thoroughbred model circa 2017 - :)
I managed to buy one . My first real racing bike .My last bike was a Raleigh Chopper(should have kept it , i know lol) I think it is a really great bike at this price. I agree that the front end vibe on rough roads . I have had to hang on a couple times , so might one day have a look at thicker tape , c f handle bars or even changing tyres, when bike is due a service . Will see how the budget goes . Boardman brand is no problem to me . To others may be , thats there problem .
Great lookiing bike, and thanks for reviewing an "affordable" bike. Rather surprised about the lack of comfort on what appear to be relatively smooth country lanes. Round where I live, the lanes are considerably worse, so this bike would need some careful route planning. But for me, the press fit bottom bracket is an absolute deal breaker. Loving the reviews - much better than GCN.
People are always overly worried about pf BB's. Its not really a problem if the frame shell is done right, and certainly no easier or harder to service.
@@jimthebikeguy - you’re right, it’s not a problem if the press fit BB shell is done right, at least for a while, but with so many top manufacturers not just getting it wrong, but also failing to even spot it’s wrong, it’s just not worth the risk in my opinion.
I used to have one of these, thought it was a pretty comfy bike and it didn't feel too far off my 3T Strada. Had exact same setup on both with P Zero 25mm tyres.
Shame as it looks a decent bike but people will scoff at the brand I bet. I like the look of it I have got some boardman kit and it's all top notch clothing too
Thanks for updating the review David, this bike is on my shortlist, having looked around at alternatives I'd be paying a lot more (Orbea M31e Team) and even the Vitus is a good £500 more but with 25mm tyres all be it fully integrated cabling, the gearing suits my needs.
It actually looks a beautiful bike sod the snobbery I would ride that all day long. The only thing that saddens me is the price of bikes today hell of outlay if your cyclist Great video David.
That is a great review... ‘real world riding’ is the key for a lot of us in the U.K. I don’t know if you ever do requests but I would love it if you could get your hands on a Allied Cycleworks Echo? Anyway great review ... thanks
Hello David, in your opinion is the boardman a better all round bike than the giant tcr advanced pro 1 disc 2021 model that you reviewed? Great informative video David keep them coming 👏
@@waynehiggins899 Wayne I agree with you Giant for me every time. Chris Dunn the Giant tcr advanced pro 1 disc 2021 has had first class reviews but it was disappointing the price increased to £4200. I would go for the rim brake version and save both on weight and cost.
Thanks Wayne and Mike I was just curious that's all the boardman seems a good buy, I had the tcr now for just over a year paid £3700 for it. I can't fault it.
Boardman make great bikes. Their biggest hurdle to overcome at this end of the market is brand snobbery. The pressfit thing.... Isn't even a thing. In fact, there's a topic for discussion 😉 along with the thing about gearing for the real world and real people #topical and also, is there really any point in an electronic groupset which is really heavy #controversial
Great points Jim, Boardman bikes higher end have been really serious machines. The snobbery in cycling is worse than golf clubs of the 80's. I can only see the benefit of electronic groups for the true elite / pro level. Used campag for years, and have Campag Record mechanical throughout my Boardman SLR-Race (signature). It shifts lighting fast with absolute precision. I could never want more than this set-up - it special to me. (Have campag on a 21 year old OLMO that works perfectly well too.)
Hi David.Good review. Any issues with BB alignment ? Hambini has roasted Boardman for making out of round BB's before this model. Can you buy the frame seperately?Should we wait for 105 12 speed, even if it is mech and not Di2 ?
So really to optimise ride comfort and perhaps reduce the weight a little further a CF stem and handlebars are required purchases? Many brands have had CF fork recalls so maybe this has resulted in CF forks that are a little safer and stronger but maybe less compliant. Is there any brand that hasn't had a CF fork recall previously, I'm sure Giant and Boardman have and of course Specialized are in the middle of one at the moment.
Some parts look kind of bad in quality terms, the seatpost and clamp look minor well finished - the fork seems pretty thin and maybe breakable. The could have spared the mud guard mounts - no need on a roadie and a bit less weight.
Great review, lovely bike. Its nice seeing a bike on RUclips that's under $10k... :)

Looks a really nice bike for the price. We'll done Boardman for keeping it real.

Rubino pros aren't that smooth, I was using the 28mm ones for awhile before changing to corsa 28mm, transformed the ride into butter

What road are you riding on 10:55? What a beautiful, low traffic, country road!

One has to ask why other Sram Rival AXS bikes are so expensive? This groupset is meant to be lower mid range - 105.
Gimme that in 1x with R28mm/F25mm tubeless tires and I'm in.
Amazing bike
How is this compared to a caad 13 and a supersix evo?
Do they sell only the frame?
Uh ok. A low budget entry level bike is now some EUR 3.000,- which makes a EUR 6.000,- bike a medium price range! Whowuddathoughtit!
Decent
Not available I emailed them looking at March before you can get one😒
Have you tried buying one??? Might as well purchase Hen's Teeth.
Never liked the look of sram's electronic FD with that awkward looking battery, and we all know that it cannot be fast of it doesn't look good.
Some parts look kind of bad in quality terms, the seatpost and clamp look minor well finished - the fork seems pretty thin and maybe breakable. The could have spared the mud guard mounts - no need on a roadie and a bit less weight.
avoid this brand like the black death.
Boardman. PMSL. Check my vid if you value your life.
