Óbidos is such a picture perfect walled town, and we can see exactly why it is so very popular with the tour groups on day trips from Lisbon... which is why it was so incredible to have the whole town to ourselves for the first hour! This is our second Óbidos video - if you haven't already, please click on the link below to see our first Óbidos video, where we had to battle strong winds and crowds on those scary walls! 😲😱 ruclips.net/video/0Lcy3BDREYg/видео.html
Happy Anniversary Mandie and Lee. ❤️🙂. That was a lovely and daring video. I'm not sure l will be brave enough to go up that high 🤣🤣. Will definitely visit here. Thanks for showing me around. 🙂 xx
Thank you so much, Lesley. We had a wonderful day and it was a pleasure to show family around. They did very well up there! Hope you get to visit. 😊👍 ~ Lee
Thanks Mr B. It is an impressive place which is why it is so popular. I'm now glad Mandy dragged me out of bed at that ungodly hour to see it like this even if I did resist the hideous idea originally. 🤣🤣 ~ Lee
You were very brave, I chickened out of the walk on the wall, I love Obidos, it’s so pretty. We only live down the road from it and it’s great to go back now the crowds have all gone.
I don't really blame you for avoiding the wall walk. It's really quite scary in places. It really is a beautiful place and you are most fortunate to live nearby. Hope you enjoy it without the crowds. 😁
I've visited Obidos twice and still really enjoyed your video. I just couldn't walk all the way round and do the high bits so enjoyed seeing it through you (I still felt wobbly just watching) . Also there was a lot closed as it was still covid times when I went so I got to experience the missing parts. THANK YOU for sharing. 😊 HAPPY Wedding Anniversary 🥂
Thank you so much, Luise. It was our third time and we loved it just as much as the others. It's so pretty both from above and below. We're so pleased we were able to show you the bits you'd missed! You can see why it's so popular, and why it's worth trying to avoid the crowds by going out of season or early in the morning. 👍 ~ Lee
Thank you for this video. I’ll be in Obidos for a couple of days in November. I’m hoping I’ll have the nerve to climb the walls. You are making me excited to see this lovely town.
Hello Deena! Óbidos is so pretty - we hope you have a wonderful time there in November. The walls are manageable, even for me with my vertigo, if you go early when there's no-one around, so you can hug the side even on the narrow bits! It's so well worth it, and I would definitely do it a third time if we had it all to ourselves again! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, we really appreciate it! ~ Mandy 😁😀
I loved Obidos when I visited in 2015, remember a lot of what you saw. However, I'm terrified of heights and had to fast forward your walk along the wall! Clearly, I did not do that when I was there. It WAS, however, wonderful to be reminded of the other parts - ginginha and the entrance with the beautiful blue tiles. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, TheScouser43! I too have a fear of heights but I can handle it as long as there's a stone wall to hug 😁 Isn't Óbidos so beautiful! I swear, all I could say most of the time was Wow! Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences, and to show that Óbidos is a great place to visit even without walking the city walls! ~ Mandy 😀😁
Your video always reminds me how much fun I was in Portugal in summer, 2017. Lisbon, Evora, Obidos, Nazare, Tomar, Porto, etc. almost the same route as you! Have fun, pray for your safety! I'm a big fan of your video.
Hi, that's great that you went to all of those wonderful places. Many people overlook a lot of places in Portugal and just focus on the most popular ones. It's such a wonderful country and we are glad to share it with you. Hope you get to return one day. ☺️👍 ~ Lee
This was actually WAY easier than the last time, Jen! Turns out that with no wind AND no crowds, anyone can walk the walls comfortably... even me with my fear of heights! 😀😁
@@FrugalTravellers Makes total sense Mandy. The day I went up with my daughter & StepMum there were a lot of people (not like summer, but more than had been before)... It's passing oncomers that can be nerve-racking! I'm out all day Wednesday so I'll have to catch this on Thursday. xx
That's such a great idea, revolt7 👍😁 If only drones weren't so tricky to carry whilst travelling... and they're also blimmin' expensive! I'll just go super slowly and hug the walls! It's always so lovely reading your comments, thank you! ~ Mandy 😀🤣
So glad you enjoyed this. 👍 It's worth getting up early for if you are there during the peak summer season when there are big crowds. Outside of that time it's not so bad. 👍
Mandy and Lee that was a great video. If people don't go visit this amazing place after watching this they are crazy. One of my favourite places in Portugal also. So glad to see the Ginjinha in choc cup is still only 1 euro, this was the first place I tried it back in 1998. Love how you took us all for a walk along the top of the walls, good for some of us too chicken to brave the narrow ledge. Well done guys. ❤
Thank you so much Cindy. We totally get why it is so many people's favourite place in Portugal. It really is like a chocolate box as we said. It barely feels real. 😍. The icing on the cake is the Ginjinha and chocolate too. I wonder if Obidos was as touristed back in the 90's. The huge crowds can really make a big difference to the experience of a place so it's worth going out of your way to avoid them and the light at that time of morning is lovely for photography. 😊👍 ~ Lee
They might give you "Ginjinha" from the cheapest brand (€6 per bottle) which you can get 52 servings from the same bottle. So, €1 for a small portion of "Ginjinha" is expensive.
@@joaorobalo9353 That's not surprising at all. I think most tourists just want a little taste and like the experience with the chocolate cups which probably cost more than the shot of Ginjinha itself. 🤣🤣
Mandy and Lee, Happy Anniversary! Your video makes me want to see Obidos. We will check it out in 2023. Mandy’s family is cool especially Gaz was locked in LOL
Thank you, Sue. We had a wonderful day. It was fun to have family over and to show them around all these beautiful places. We had a great time and plenty of laughs. 😁 Hope you get there in 2023. 😁👍 ~ Lee
Happy anniversary to you both. Mandy I thought you were brave the last time you were in Obidos to climb part of the wall , now I know you are. If and when we go, we will definitely stay at least two days so we have the early morning experience. Gaz is showing off running up those high steps - did he clllapse in a heap at the top? I think you climbed up the hardest part of the stairs by climbing up from the main gate. It must have been just beautiful waking the walls and overlooking the town without the crowds. Hope I will be identify the "money shot" site! Was that a 14C toilet in the library Mandy :)? Is the Pingo Dos cafeteria outside the town walls?
Hi Christine. Thanks so much. The walls are so beautiful at that time of day so it's a great idea to spend 2 days there and enjoy it at a leisurely pace. I felt so sorry for some of the tour group people there who told us they had just over one hour in Obidos 😲. The 'money shot' is just below the castle on the same side. 📸 Thankfully there are a few free toilets available in Obidos 😊 and the Pingo is a ten minute walk away outside the city walls. 👍 ~ Lee
Very nice video about Óbidos, one of the nicest places in Portugal. I didn't knew that there was ginjinha for kids. I have to go there to taste it. If you are still in Nazaré, I strongly you recommend that you make a train trip by Linha do Oeste until Caldas da Rainha station: you can find some amazing views and Caldas station has beautiful tiles. Cheers. Luís Miguel
Hi Luís. Thanks for that tip. We haven't taken the train from there but we have been to Caldas station and it is true that the tiles are beautiful there. 😊 The Ginjinha for kids is great for them and for those who don't drink alcohol. Those chocolate cups are so yummy. 😋 👍 ~ Lee

Obidos is a nice place to visit in particular on the winter due to the xmas decorations in the castle.

this was special having stayed in the Pousada tower for a night (Sept 2002) - magical place. Lovely video. memories.

Nice lighting at that time of the morning, too!
Yes there's that golden glow. Perfect for photography. 😊
That top part of the wall is indeed scary. I am not doing that part ever again.
