ÓBIDOS PORTUGAL - Walking the Walls Despite My Vertigo & Delicious €1 Ginja in Chocolate Cups

  • ÓBIDOS is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Portugal. We had a wonderful time visiting twice in August 2021 during the Medieval Festival.
The first time with our friend Deano, when we tried the famous local liqueur, Ginja.
During our second visit, we show part of our 8km walk from our village housesit along the Ecovia do Arnóia, one of the many walking trails in Portugal.
Keep in mind that Óbidos can be very busy, as this beautiful town is only 1 hour from Lisbon, so it's advisable to come early in the morning or in the afternoon to avoid the tour buses! Also, that way you'll have a more pleasurable experience when walking around the many sections of the walls which don't have safety fences!
We had a wonderful time in Óbidos, and would recommend it to anyone who wants to experience an amazing walled town!
    SECOND VISIT WITH FAMILY
Ma & Gaz came to visit in August 2022, so of course we had to visit beautiful Óbidos:

Hi Lee and Mandy. My husband and I really enjoyed your latest video about Obidos. We wanted to learn more about you, so we went to your About page. Wow, so interesting! we started traveling after Tim retired in 2009. Now we have an apartment tht we bought in Chiatura, Georgia. Over the summer we were in Turkey. Now, we're back in Chiatura, doing a little more renovation, until we can travel again. We were wondering about the $20.00 a day. Is that just for food? That must be tough to do in the EU countries. We'll continue to follow your journey. Thanks so much for sharing. xx

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  2 года назад +2

Thank you for your interest, Christina. We understand why you chose Georgia. Such a lovely place. I can't remember Chiatura. Is it in the wine growing region? Our $20 each per day is an average that sometimes we are under but often in Europe we go over. That includes everything including food, accomodation, travel and extras. Difficult in Europe which is why we go slowly and stop occasionally to house sit which is what we are doing now in Portugal to reduce our expenditure. 😊 ~ Lee

    • @christinadaggett6024
      @christinadaggett6024 2 года назад +1

@@FrugalTravellers That sounds like such a great idea, about the house sitting. the $20.00 each, makes more sense. We want to look into a home exchange, when we're done with the renovation. Right now we can't get into the EU countries, which is really frustrating, because we can't visit our daughter in the Netherlands. I hope this covid, thing is over soon. Safe travels!

Loved this video on Obidos. I got my girls to watch it as we went there when they were quite young. The only thing they both remembered was an open hand statue on a roundabout just outside the village. They only remembered this as there was a dead snake between the thumb and forefinger. Funny the things children remember.

Hey GP. That's a very good point! Our Frugal Travel Costs videos for Bulgaria and Estonia took weeks to make and didn't do very well, so at the moment we would rather keep on top of our recent travels and incorporate Frugal Travel information into those.
Remember that we've been housesitting since July so it's €0 for accommodation 😁🤣 What other costs of living would you be interested in? ~ Mandy

    Hi
I am travelling from Faro airport to Lagos to Budens on Saturday. I have a few questions you may be able to help me with.
    1. Do you recommend bus or train travel for this journey?
    2. Do I need euros for public toilets in Portugal?
    3. Do I need Google translate because I do not speak Portuguese?
    4. Do I need warm clothing?.
Loving your videos and way of travelling. This is certainly the future for me.

Hi Julie. We'll answer your questions as best we can.
      1. Sorry, we don't even know where Budens is so can't help you there. 😞
      2. Yes if they are pay toilets. Often they are free. There are always free ones in supermarkets if you are struggling.
      3. Google translate is sometimes helpful but don't worry. Virtually everyone in the Algarve speaks English.
      4. Weather is quite pleasant at the moment but a jumper/sweater for the evenings would be advisable.
      Hope this helps. 😊~ Lee

      Amazing! So Euros for toilets.
      Budens is west of Lagos.
I prefer train travel but if I have caught the bus from the airport to the bus station in Faro I may as well continue to Lagos...
Then a local bus from Lagos to Budens.
I am going on a Workaway volunteering placement.. frugal travel... indeed I hope.
Have you a video about house-sitting? That's so interesting.
Thanks SO much for your answers.
I am loving your you tube videos. My hubby and I are definitely

Is there a way to see the views without walking the walls?? I don't think I can handle the heights without a least the small wall.

Some sections are easier and less scary than others. You could ascend the steps, admire the views and then go back down without walking the walls. It's all quite lovely. 😍
