Spoilers: the EOS R mark 2 is not coming out, as it was the R mount prototype. That's it. The R8 is the replacement of the RP, and the R5 and R6 both replace the R.
Tbh. a used EOS R is a great b cam. I use the R as a b cam next to my R6 and it works wonderful. Also, when I use my Ninja V it can even record 10bit. I have used this combo for a lot of talking head shots and the 4K crop even helps since it turns my 50mm into a portrait focal length which is perfect for this scenario.
Just get the R6 mk2. I upgraded from the mk1 and it’s a perfect b cam to my C70. 24 megapixels. Not 30min record limit. No overheating in 4K 30 or below. Full frame 4K 60 downsampled from 6k. False color, lens breathing compensation, video and photo switch, up to 3 custom video & separate photo modes. Up to 40 fps stills. Live-streaming with just usb connection and improved autofocus. Love the channel keep up the great content!
Whenever someone says up to 40 fps stills they lose all credit. First off, no one ever used 40 fps lol. Second off, the rolling shutter is terrible, so the only times you would need it, the photos would be unusable.
@@Yupthereitism First, no one ever used 40fps bc almost all cameras can’t shoot that fast. Not even the R3 or A1 can match that they top out at 30fps. Second, the rolling shutter is 14 milliseconds which even edges out the R5 so it’s pretty good. Third, at that speed you don’t hold down the shutter you just feather the shutter button bc you’re only shooting for a fraction of a second to get the moment. Unless you’re doing massive pans or tilts you won’t get much rolling shutter. Also as for credibility I bought and use the camera every day. So I’m more credible than you bc I own and use the tool everyday instead of just commenting on a RUclips video about the camera.
@@lorenzofit_mma I own a Z9 and a A1 so yea, I'm very knowledged on cameras. 40fps is overkill, especially for 1 card slot. If there were some extremely fast motion that maybe you would want 40 fps because you are OCD or something, the rolling shutter would cause warping in the fast movement. This is a marketing gimmick and you are falling for it hook line and sinker.
I just switched to Sony for this very thing from 3 years ago. I was looking for a b cam and the only thing that I could find for the R was the Sony a6600. I needed unlimited recording for weddings and interviews. Then I just sold my R to get the FX30 and I don’t miss it honestly. The next b camera available with Canon was the R7 which I tried but didn’t love honestly and the feeling of plastic compared with an FX3 equivalent feel sold me immediately. And the xlr handle option (even though I slightly despise it) makes it super handy for doc set ups.
Actually if u factor inflation and what not the eos r mark 2 would cost more then 2500. The r6mk1/2 is the replacement for eos r. Now what you could see is ana a7c of the r6mk2 or something along those lines for slightly cheaper maybe at 2200
After being in the Sony realm a pair of years I sold everything and buyed Nikon Z. There are cheap third party AF lenses for full frame (Yongnuo, Viltrox, TTartisan), Nikon Z6II and Z6 could be a good buy if you can afford it. And if you want go cheap, the Z30 can record 4k 30fps without crop, and 1080p 120fps.
I think it's more of an RP replacement. They might bring the fight for the R replacement at the $2K range. I used to think it'd be the R8, but it's just seeming inconsistent/silly/confusing. But we should probably stop thinking of "replacements" for those cameras and focus on what they give us and how they fit with our needs, or the market needs. It's been too long. As far as specs go, if R6 goes down further in price, that is probably now the R replacement. Like below if that makes a little sense. What's interesting is how they'd match this up with the R7 specs. Cause they won't want to cannibalize that, so they'd cripple this R8 then. So yeah, maybe 24 MP. It might not go past 4k 30p, possibly cropped 60p, burst at around 10fps. I'd want 2 card slots, but it's probably 50/50 for this one. By the way, you kept saying S-log 3 😅
I think now R6 competes with Sony A73. Canon R6 is still available to buy with usually lower price. I think R was just a placeholder for the mirrorless series form canon and it won’t have a successor. R6 is really a capable video camera for some workflows and you can find it for a good price now. R6mk2 is probably the most underrated camera released in last few months but it’s actually a hybrid workhorse.
@@apollosankofa87 Although it is marketed like that, I would say it is body wise more of a RP mk2 and it could stand as a replacement for both the R and Rp cause it is in a lot of ways a something between those two cameras.
This felt a little forced, if I'm being honest. The R6 is about the same price as the A73 at this point and you wouldn't have to switch ecosystems.🤷♂️
I switched to Sony 2 years ago, that's it. Not going back to Canon. Their RF system is crippled. Not for mass consumers only for rich or professional who are willing to spend on their RF lenses. And Why Make a Canon R8 that is budget friendly but no offering of cheaper lens alternatives. Don't really understand Canon strategy, makes no sense.
It's kinda weird the R8 is full frame but sits between two aps-c cameras - the R7 and R10. 😫 Historically the higher the Canon number the lower tier the camera is. It's odd. 🤯
It's because the R7 is fully featured, it's superior to the R8 in every way except the sensor. It has IBIS, dual SD card slots, higher mega pixel count, bigger grip, better battery, better shutter, and it downsamples video from 7k (R8 downsamples from 6k). The R8 does produce slightly cleaner less noisy images/video at higher ISO due to being full frame, but compared to the R7 its lacking a lot of features. The R7 is the flagship APS-C camera from Canon, the R8 is the bare bones entry level full frame camera. I think it sitting between the R7 and R10 is justified.
To use it for video it seems the only reasonable way to get the full use of the camera is to rig it. I don’t own the r5c but with the super slow switch between photo and video, it’s basically making r5 his photo camera which is a good idea until you look at the price. Definitely not a B camera and to have an A and B in the $3000 range seems like it’s not what he is looking for. Just a thought.
Nice video thanks for sharing but I keep hearing rumors of a 24 megapixel sensor and not 30 and possibly no EVF, what you think is no EVF a deal breaker for you?
You are aware that Sony was hit with a class action suite because when people used 1st curtain shutter the A73 shutter flew apart. Sony denied it, so they were sued. The suite was settled about a year later. I prefer companies that admit mistakes.

Buy a fuji, they are amazing. I switched from a canon 760D to a Fuji XT3 to an Canon R5 and the Fuji XT3 ist still an amazing performing camera in comparison with the r5, especially when you take price and lens options into account.
I bought an EOS R6 and it died on the first wedding of Error 70. I sent it back and had it replaced. The replacement did the same out of the box before I even attached a lens or put a card in. Refunded. I bought one Sony A7C and it’s amazing even on 1080-50fps 25MB (it’s lowest quality setting). I bought two more A7C all with the 28-60 kit lens plus a Sony 24-105 f4 G OSS and a Sigma MC-11 adapter for my Canon lenses. Bye bye Canon!
I now own the R8 and will ask the shop if I can return it. How the Canon sensor handles light is still horrible. YOu still pay 2000 bucks for a basic lens edition, and see no real benefit of full frame sensor. I would go for Sony and even Nikon. They say they improved the dynamic range, so its the software then but 4096 focus points cannot do a good metering. A lot of darks to fix and believe me there is enough noise to make it unfixable. I was really disappointed investing in it after so many comments, unless you take all shots RAW and spend a reasonable time in front of your computer its a no go.
Obviously it won't be an "R Mark II". First because it won't fit in the naming scheme and the original R was around $2300, making it too close in price to the R6.

I am in a complete opposite boat. I have an SL1 for seven years. I want to upgrade. I mostly do street photography and some nature photography on a recreational basis and not for profit. This has left me confused. Other than price I am not sure if the R8 will meet my needs and and still concerned about rolling shutter issues that the R7 has and I am sure the R8 will have,
The R8 turned out as a much better camera than leaked. Destroyed the RP video wise and is great for everyone who loved that form factor. I'd love to see a second SD slot for the R8 Mark II, but maybe i'm just dreaming. Or 4K / 60 for the R50 Mark II
