- Reviewing the Fuji XS20 finally. How does it compare to the competition? Full frame vs aps-c. Lot of really light full frame cameras these days with the Canon R8, Sony A7C II and ZVE1. Panasonic G9 II in this same budget. I go over the main cameras in this budget range for cinematic youtube video vlogging. Took the X-S20 to Alaska this summer for 10 days. Just shy of 5,000 shots, I'm very happy with the results. My Fuji progression has been: X-T1 -> X-T10 -> X-T3 -> X-S20.

The ZVE1 is my favorite camera. Slow motion squirrel mating footage in 4K 120 fps changed my life.
The ability to film oneself having sex with animals in 4K slow mo would would not be one of my prerequisites for buying a camera.

Yeah! I think so too, however I do not like the fact that it only has 1 SD card slot and it overheats very quickly.

I am loving my X-T20. It took me 3 months to get it from Adorama in my Manhattan, where demand is very high. It does everything I ask it to do, aside from some AF hesitancy in landscape mode. The AF is excellent for portraits and video. The Classic Neg simulation is so good, I think I'll never shoot in RAW again. And this might drive Kasey nuts: I only use Sigma glass with my X-T20 since the Fuji lenses are heavier than the camera itself. I have them all: Sigma 16mm, 23mm, 30mm, 56mm and the 18-50mm zoom. Sometimes I think it would be nice to also own an X-T30 because I am mostly a photographer, but the X-T20 does everything that camera can do, only better. So unless it's free of charge, I will not get an X-T30.
How did you get classic neg on the XT20? Did you mean XS20?

the 240fps was also shot in classicneg I think, just look at the reds and the greens.
I got killer deal on og S5 now. Can't beat that value and I find the AF good enough, MF a lot anyway. The lenses are tough but even with the kit lens it can handle low light pretty good, and the range is perfect.
I am a Canon fan freak and am leaning towards the R8 for my first full frame mirrorless camera. Moving on up from the 90D.
Would rather have the A7C II over the ZV-E1 for the extra pixels in the still photography shots, 33 vs 12 is a dramatic difference

And 15 stops dynamic range is a no brainer
Go for a7cii for photography. He's basing his evaluation from video performance. A7cii is hybrid photo video camera.

I’m loving my ZVE1- the biggest gripe I’ve seen people have with it is the “overheating”- but it hasn’t overheated for me at all…
what's the ambient temp where you run it?
It overheated on me a lot. I live in Florida
@@spaceghostcqc2137 I’m in Utah- I’ve used it while shooting pictures outside in 90+ degree weather- but that’s dry heat so I don’t know if that changes anything. I’ve also streamed for 1.5 hours on multiple occasions (only stream at 1080p though) in a climate controlled office at about 72 degrees

Bought a Canon R8. Use EF lenses. Have 180fps in true FHD 1080p with auto AF. Have a battery pac to power the camera because of the original tiny Canon Battery. Can play with the 180fps video in Topaz to tweak. Actually like using the setup and it costs hundreds less than comparable. So many of the new releases from Sony and Lumix don't interest me, because the new releases just don't meet my needs. I also have and use Sony A7SIII. Nice work Kasey.

Straight out of camera, canon still has the best colour. Canon autofocus can on occasion mess up but it’s rare. Canon has the best ergonomics and best screens and menu system. Sony has best autofocus and lens collection.
Canon doesn't have the best menu, you can't even switch from standard to C-log 3 without diving into the menu and changing multiple things.
Canon menus are below average at this point. Having to take a picture to set custom white balance is insane
@@cameraconspiracies Fair point. But ... I personally don't see myself switching from one picture profile to another often. I would guess most just set their preferred profile, rarely changing it. I am very used to the Canon menu system, so that would explain my bias these days ... I have the C70 and now the R8. And to be fair, I haven't seen the new Sony menu system. I would suggest checking out the C70, it is the most productive camera I have ever used ... once you learn the cinema menu.
@@cameraconspiracies you could put standard profile in custom mode 1 and log in custom mode 2. so you wouldnt need to enter the menu.

Tell us more about the R8.. as a dirty phototgrapher i like that it's the only affordable full frame or aps-c camera with a fast sensor readout, and 4k60 with no crop is amazing. I loved the eos R video quality but I sold mine as it had a lot of shortcomings and an 80ms sensor readout speed
If you’re concerned about affordability I don’t know why you even take the RF mount into account… Expensive corner.
I‘m coming from the EF mount where life was good while it lasted, but I‘m taking my money to Sony now.
@@AlexChama depends what you want out of full frame.. the RF 16, 35 and 85 are versatile and affordable, you get fast sensor readout and canon colours. I am equally torn between it and the sony A7C. For zooms and wildlife, I have lots of micro 4/3rds gear

Big fan of new xs20, Fuji actually fixed all issues with previous one, except IBIS sucks as noted. Get the SMall RIg cage for Fuji, game changer 😊
Nah, the AF is still mediocre for video. You can see it sometimes pulsing. It's like ADHD issue, can't focus for a prolonged time
Yeah, I was too excited at first, this camera is not competitive in AF and IBIS. Especially with 3d party lenses
@@50shadesofNV what camera do you have? I currently own the fuji xt30 but want to change. The autofocus is ass and low light aswell. Shooting videos is only possible when using a tripod or trying to hold really still. I was eying the fx30 but might just cop the ZVE1 or should i just get the 7C II. The XH2S is also really good but idk. Feel like my head is gonna explode.
Fuji IBIS is still lagging behind competition, so is autofocus. if you like small factor and colors go for the Fuji XS20@@Smorfar

@@rockazz82in the same boat! I'm leaning towards the Fuji since the price is lower. I'm coming from Nikon D750 so assuming the AF on the Fuji will blow me away, even though it might be worse than Sony.
Good colors are there ALL the time…. so that advantage lasts in more situations…

Don't know where you live, but here in Switzerland between the sony a7cii and the ZVE1 there are 400 usd of difference. Then the a7cii makes sense.
Im using X-S20 paired with TTArtisan 35mm for 6 mos already. It's the one I can afford, but I love the camera. Its gives me joy shooting😊

I really really hope the G9 II will be a success for Panasonic. I don’t use MFT anymore, but i always liked it.
Both the A6700 and the G9 II are impressive hybrid cameras for their price if you want reach and good to great 120fps
6700 overheating issues are a big deal if you're on the video end imo. I think it's a strong choice for longer reach photography though.
I got the a6700 and pretty happy with it. Everything is a compromise if you want a hybrid. Was thinking zv-e1 but it overheats even worse than a6700 and resolution too low for photos. a7cii/a7iv are pretty good but no 4k/120. My only issue is aps-c isn’t as strong in low light but I guess I will live with it. Also lens cost was a factor because I don’t have an infinite budget.
g9 ii dead on arrival nobody doing MFT anymore for a reason. Its 2023 the time of full frame or riot
@@frostgodx don't say that, though a minority there are many Macro pros out there capturing incredible images on MFT due to the greater depth of field.
Why did you not include the Sony 6700 in this video? Great autofucus and light.
I was focused more on the light weight full frame options from them, seems silly to get aps-c when their full frame cameras are the same weight.
Are you planning on updating your focus drifting Pany Pony now they have phase detect?
Everytime you showed the Canon it had that great bokeh (sharper lens, too). The colors were kind of garish, though.. But the bokeh is why people stick with full frame.

Wait, are you barefoot? Every time I hear "..or maybe in a spiral..' it makes me laugh. Through your 240 footage I just learned that yellow jackets sniff each other's butts just like dogs! "Look at it and weep.." :-) We X-T3 folks don't have Nostalgic Neg, but we do have Classic Neg. I think they're fairly close. And, probably can tweak Classic Neg to get it. Well, that footage looked pretty nice. I still don't think I'd go from my X-T3 to an X-S20 . It is tempting to have the increased battery life and better AF though. But, the main reason is that I want to save my pennies for the 50-140 for photography....sorry, I used that forbidden term! LOL! Nicely done overview/review. Have a great day!
4:16 - Excellent table. Except Fuji crops are out of 1.5x APSC sensor, so it equates to 4K60 - 1.77x crop and HD240 - 1.94x crop of full frame equivalent. That's micro4loser territory.

How about for photography? A7CII or the R8? I love Canon's ergonomics.
I preferred the Canon's ergo too, but even the A7C's IBIS is better than no IBIS. I shoot indoors at 1/30th often enough. Not to mention some really nice f2.8 zoom options from Tamron for the Sony. Then you have the Samyang, Sigma, and Sony primes. The A7CII should be that much better with AI focusing and more mp's. If you should get second Canon body, the power button and layout aren't going to match. Dual card slots is a benefit for any critical work too. I even prefer micro-SD cards so I can trickle them down to other devices. Or share them in pinch on vacation.

ZVE1 was reduced in Uk by over £400 for about a week (now gone back up, no idea why) so I picked one up. It is a fantastic camera, image quality is amazing and the low light. Loving it so far.

I think the A7CII is a mini A1, i use both, The a1 is faster bigger more megapixels. But in practise they are very much a like.
I like the small size and weight of the C2, i like the speed and ergonomics of the A1 which is 3 times more expensive.
I really don`t get the comments this video gives about the A7CII, it`s not boring, it`s a photographers dream. That`s probably the issue.
Is there any point buying the A7Siii instead of the ZVE-1 for acquisition of the cinema?
ZVE-1 seems like much better deal, but no viewfinder (which is fine)

Great video! I really want an x-s20 but the price is disappointingly high. If I had that sort of money I’d be tempted to go full frame eg Canon R8. I’m hoping for a price crash though to get the x-s20 for half the money - I can’t understand who’d keep buying aps-c cameras now that full frame prices are coming down.
Glass that is just as fast but half the weight. Bodies that are generally 20% lighter. And you get full features at $1800-2500 vs full frame full features $3500-4000
they also have cheaper and lighter lenses at any given quality level.
A bad EVF is better than none. And for photography 33 mp is much better than 12.😅

I've already tested with the XT4, this lens sounded more fun being so light and wider. 18-55mm is the way to go though, you're right.

I add film grain to all my videos for the last 6 months. Never pay attention to noise here, because I add it lol.

The R8 is full frame and the only one with full frame 4K, and it's the cheapest by far! Canon ftw.
Sold my a7siii and a7iv for the zve1 and a7cii (pre-ordered). Zve1 overheating is, to a large extent, a myth. Autofocus on both is unmatched. These two will probably become two of the most popular full frame cameras for the foreseeable future.
I upgraded from the A7iii to the A1 a year ago, and at times I find myself missing the a7iii or wishing I had got the A7iv

The A7C II is so weird. Like the A7C was at least cheap nowadays. It was €1500, so in Fuji XS20/XT5 range. But now north of 2k for this thing, nah lol

@@PuReXtremeGaming If you like Sony and want a smaller full frame cam just get it. I'm just saying from the perspective of someone deciding between APSC or full frame, this one is just way more expensive than almost any APSC, so it's out of the budget area, the first A7C was not out of that area. I guess A7C II is a very good camera if you can afford it.

Also cameras without stabilization like the R8 again are non-starters for stills in the modern era..

I have the a7iv for wildlife and a7c for travel but you convinced me to get a Fuji XT-4 and I’m glad I did. It’s the most fun camera to use of all of them. However, I still like the Canon color science the best.
How do you choose what camera to take? I have an A1, but thought about getting and OM-1 just for macro photography, but I fear I will be crippled by indecision.
@@taylorhickman84 I had buyers regret over the a7c. I use that for video now since I don’t care too much about the quality- I am just making some RUclips videos. When I travel I take the XT-4, I love the effortless aspect of it- it just takes great stills. But if I’m traveling and want video, I’ll take the a7c. I keep the big 200-600mm on the a7iv for birds. I try to use all the cameras. If I stop using one, I’m going to sell it!
shooting long periods of time, I went with the A7c II over the ZV-E1. That overheating issue isnt worth the risk for me. but otherwise if I was doing short bursts, I woulda went with it. Plus i just like shiny new things

As always, entertaining review. ;-) The A7C II does have much more MP for photos. The ZV-E1 with better rolling shutter performance seems to be more suited for video, whereas the A7C II may be more of a photographer's camera. The problem is of course, once you got quite a lot E-mount lenses you're pretty much stuck with Sony (same with Canon and any other brand).
I agree its not always about video capabilities for everyone most folks still buy for photography. A serious guy can start with any of these today but eventually is going to graduate to more professional cameras in the range to 4k to 6k
