Is that a microtech knife?!
Are you guys familiar with 1985 vg30e engines?
The cleaning guy showing up, was the best part.
We all love the cleaning guy.
Gotta give respect to the cleaning man doing his job. Give him a raise.
Nice work. Crazy how there's such a division between "Automotive" machine work and "regular" machine work. In my experience, "regular" machinists who haven't had exposure to "automotive" work often don't think much of automotive machinists, but when you start talking inspectuon details and tolerances, they're baffled by the results. Really enjoy your channel and it makes me miss doing automotive machine work.
The cleaning guy interlude was brilliant haha
Good to see the help given some screen time. Haha
I can’t help but to say your cleanup guy is the greatest, and I would have loved to have grown up with a clean up guy like him you’re extremely Blessed aka “Dad"
Man that’s gotta be gratifying to see the end product of your workmanship. Beautiful.
Your Dad is awesome btw
Hey now, don't mess with the Clean Up Guy, he's the shop's OG & MVP ! 👌😎👍
Good to see the cleaning guy at it. Oh, and the rod grinding was okay too 👍
Good to see the young bloke, is keeping that cleaning guy on his toes
Nice and the cleaning guy excellent work 😂
I love the Banter between you and your father 😆
Cleaning guy is the heart of the shop
Love the claening guy!!!
When I was a kid a long time ago I built a 302 chev engine. With a lot of help from some talented guys . I bought a set of heads of a g gas car that had a lot of work done to them . These heads set helped set a record once in a Monza , a iskey roller solid lift cam , and a lot of other parts . At any rate the bottom end was set up by a company that build dirt track engines and I think is still in business in the Dallas area . I remember using stock rods that had ARP rod bolts , side clearance and installed in my TRW forged pistons . I spun that engine to 7500 often and it ran good for me . I never forgot how well those ARP bolts worked . The guy who ran the shop took my new steel crank , rods, bolts pistons and set it up like he would for a dirt track engine that has to run those rods . That was a long time ago . Many lessons learned, one a good set of heads is key to making hp if the resest of the engine is right . Bore hone with a deck plate ect ect . . Thanks for the video
Was it a stick. Sounds like a kick ass car. I have a monza to. But its going to be a high winding 4.3 v 6. Stick.
Yea I think Pete shifted it at 10k or so .
no one cares

Oh the memories 😍👍.
This was my primary duty at the company I worked for ,, besides assembly. A perfect job for the OCD afflicted technician 👉 🤣.
Nice work as usual.
I wish more people would view your videos.
They would soon realize why machine shop work/ labor is as expensive as it is! 🤷♂️
Cheers 🍻, G. In beautiful Boulder City Nv. USA 🇺🇲
LMAO--was worried you may have fired the "Cleaning Guy". He said he was worried about losing his job 🤣
This takes me back to the mid / late -70’s. Back then GM had “unfinished” big block rod forgings available, by P/N, and in their Chevy Power manual, a detailed plan sheet of profile finishing, polishing, shot peening, etc.. The blank small end let us do what was wanted for length and bushing.
This was before the availability of aftermarket rods, the exception being Carrillo and a few others, that back then cost a mint.
Automotive engineering at it's finest.
Fantastic work...I can't even imagine what a quality rebuild like this would cost
I always wanted to see the equipment used for these! Really nice work.
This is precision and quality you won't get on a production reman engine. If I need my Intl T444E rebuilt soon I'm bringing it to you guys!
Right, id love to bring them my clapped out 454 to have it rebuilt
The amount of specialized tooling in engine building always astounds me. Thanks for another informative video . I likely will never operate this machine but understanding it helps me communicate with my local machinist.
Cleaning guy put you in your place huh? LOL
Great video, love the details of what you are doing & what you want to accomplish.
As they say...the devil is in the details.
I live that you and the cleaning guy get along. Me and my cleaning guy don’t see eye to when it comes to working in the same building
It's good for people to see how much work and time actually goes into this operation. That power stroker sure makes it a little easier, I always did them by hand, you have to be much more careful, but I never had a power stroker.
Tenths is the measurement I used to loose sleep over. Had a .0002 tolerance on a bearing diameter. Nice to see that you keep them within tolerance of each other. Great vid!
I once challenged the guy grinding crank pins to remove one micron form a pin. He then did it. When you know the machine you know the machine.
Thanks guys after loosing the transmission guys y’all are my favorite channel! Manual Machinist for 10 years now.
I hope I can find a shop that cares as much as y’all do, when I go to redo the engine in my truck. She’s older and is going to need it as some point
That cleaning guys sure gets in the way at the most inopportune times. Is he a new hire?
Such precision. Quality work. 10/10.
The cleaning guy 😉 had to get some screen time in this vid somehow!
I really like he way you show & explain how the machines are set up
Definitely excited to get this done on my engine. Bought a set of ARP rod bolts with the intention of having that done while i had the engine apart but they ended up being back ordered, certainly going to look at doing this next time i have the engine apart!
When the next person asks me why I refuse to do design work just good enough, I'm going to refer them to this video. Quality matters and takes time to do it correctly. Great video, keep up the quality work.
Very fine work, as usual. Your care and attention to detain is above and beyond. Well done!
I never had the privilege of using a power stroke feature on the rod hone. I really like it.
This channel never disappoints, excellent content boys 👍
Oh man you and your dad crack me up😂nice explanation of rod resizing 👍
Your Dad is awesome!!!!!
8:03 very technical procedure hahaha, love your videos hopefully impatient customers see this and realize what they are asking when they say " I need that tomorrow"
Crazy accuracy, especially considering these are manual machines. Wild
Very nice work. I could watch videos like this all day. That cleaning guy is on his job!
very neat to see all your special machine tools and measurement devices!
Would love to see a longer format project as well. Maybe a fun build for your own projects?
Loved the cameo of the cleaning guy!
Curious if you measured any rods previously to see if they were out of round & how much?
cleaning/crankshaft guy is a hard worker!!
Nice work on the big ends. Great video. Gotta love and appreciate that precision!
Great Sunday night fun. Keep it up
Absolutely fantastic work, both the machining and the video
Fantastic equipment, well cared for, process fully understood, all of which relate to reliable work and durable outcomes. Great job as always...
Your dad seems like a hell of a good sport. I think y’all have a great thing going here.
I know it's a joke about dad being 'the cleaning guy'. But at my age (72), I'd probably be doing the same thing: Sweeping and cleaning.
I really do love the “cleaning guy” who’s never gotten a promotion 🤣
I like your trick there with the feeler Guage. The tobin arp cap grinders have an adjustable cap clamp carriage with knobs in each corner.... but your way works just fine with the same quality.... I hate it when the caps get shrunk and drag the threads on them new shiny arp bolts
Like many of your followers, I follow many other RUclipsers.
When it comes to mentioning the sponsor of that days video I normally fast forward as the RUclipser is cheesy or just poor. I actually watch you, super professional and your sponsors get their moneys worth.
That cleaning guy needs to be brought into line. Nice work though, very consistent sizing across the 8 rods. Do you do anything with the small end of the rod?
Iove your stuff and keep up good work and takes for dramatic changes in your show
Beautiful work!
Nicely done.
Another great video guys very interesting, one thing I would say is someone needs to take the cleaner aside and have a word with him about his attitude lol 😂😂😂😂😂
Mesmerizing!! Amazing skills!
I am getting my Ls1 rebuilt with a new camshaft! I don’t think they are going to deck the block or do the bottom end!
I rebuilt many rods in my years in an engine shop. We did not have a power stroker on our LBB machine. Made is a lot tougher to keep the rod bores straight and i also bushed many rods. Also a tough job keeping those pin ends straight. We did have an air over hydraulic press to do piston pins and rod bolt...
Please remind everyone, if purchasing an new set of rods. The resizing has to be done by a shop like you or your dads. SS/D 3049
😂😂 cleaning guy 👍🏻
Nice job guys 👏
Hmmn, haven't watched it yet, but that tolerance is rediculous.. I haven't been a turner for a few years so maybe my mind is playing tricks on me, but I think a bearing fit had a deviation of about 5x that!
Great video 👍🏻🇦🇺
Great video!
you know your stuff. nice job !
elegant precision
You sir, are one talented machinist! You could be building NASCAR engines with your attention to detail and specs.
I watched the balancing video, then I watched this video.
Perfection.
I mean, I am impressed. Everytime I watch one of these videos I am really impressed.
The equipment your shop has, coupled with the knowledge and know how is really just very impressive.
I wonder how much it would cost to rebuild an L5P Duramax, and beef it up a bit ?
Probably more than I could afford, but am still curious nonetheless.
Will that cutting oil give you a false reading. I enjoy your videos and your channel. Thanks for sharing.
Sick video good job
You all do good work 😊👍🌎
Love the knife
Is the sweeping up guy slacking ?
Nice video.
That cleaning man ever gonna take initiative and move beyond the bathroom? ;) 😂😂😂 🤪🤪🤪
Impressive accuracy... 🙂
You guys must get all the promotional stickers.
Cool, great content!
Nice work, Dad!! :--)
Can you guys do a video showing how to setup
The AG-300 gauge to check rod’s and how to setup the small end also? I have a new one I want to learn to use!
If the big end is out of round, what about the small end? And is the distance from center to center the same as original? I'm just wondering if the rod has stretched isn't it a sign that it's time to replace it before it fails?
Muy buena informacion
Y son excelentes

Sweeper Boy sure show's a great work ethic....He may be a keeper.... ain't it just ain't it 😎 lols
That's totally awesome great work balance engine is a great
"No system of energy can deliver sum useful energy in excess of the total energy put into constructing it.
This universal truth applies to all systems.
Energy, like time, flows from past to future".
The old guy, does he think he owns the place!🤣
Any video you guys can do
Showing how to setup the sunnen cf-1126 setting fixture for sunnen dail
Bore gauge?
Cleaning guy cameo? Nice.
@jimsautomotivemachineshop I’m sure you’ve gotten feedback on this already.
Interesting !
Your Dad's a HOOT!
Love the content... Informative, lighthearted vibe. Take care of that cleaner dude. Tryhards are a rarity these days. 😝
After reducing the diameter, the hole turns out to be crooked (oval), you must first align the hole, bore it. Then finish with internal grinding.
Notification squad hope you had a nice weekend!🔥🔥🔥
