Congrats on all your progress so far this year :’) and yes, I think what you touched on with having a job that doesn’t drain you is SO key to be able to have energy for writing and other creative endeavors. So real. Also I totallyyy think 2k by the end of the year is doable!!

congratulations on your progress so far!! you're doing so great 💗💗
i've been revising my YA contemporary romance this year and just finished draft 4 and sent it off to another round of beta readers! i have a video like this coming out on monday where i talk about all of my progress this year, as well as my goals for the rest of the year-but I would really like to do another draft or two of this project and then maybe draft a book as well!

I'm not where I wanted to be, in terms of mid-year writing goals, but I'm also undergoing a huge job transition and will be moving before the end of the calendar year. It's so important, like you said, to give ourselves grace and to not give up. Good luck in Q3 and Q4!

Ahhh it's so good when you find that routine that just *works*. You're doing so good with everything!!
I'm down for a querying community. Maybe something on Discord or Patreon?

Your reflection about jobs is SO TRUE!!I recently quit a job that was draining me to the point that it was all I could think about, even outside of work. I was using so much brain power during the day that the thought of using my spare time to write felt exhausting before I even began. It was so frustrating and demoralizing. Now I'm job searching and I'm really trying to strike that balance between finding a job that's enjoyable and interesting without also taking over my life. It's also really encouraging to hear that you've created a stable writing routine for yourself! I think I failed so often at routines that I assumed it just wasn't possible for me lol. At this point I'm just aiming for general consistency and hoping the routine part will come with time XD Anyway, glad to hear your writing goals are moving along swiftly! This video gave me a lot to think about, and I can't believe we're already halfway through the year ahhhh!

I wish you the best of luck in the job market, it's rough out there, but I hope you're able to find something that helps your creativity flourish💐

I'm on the "just quit your job" team! 🙌🏾 Before I started working for myself full-time, I was at a soul-sucking call center job 😅 Writing was the LAST thing I wanted to do when I get home. It's not feasible to quit or use PTO for everyone, sure, but there has to be _something_ you can do! 🥺

I need some of that magic to rub off on me! My routines have fallen apart, which usually happens by April or May of every year. I start off strong in January and then something will happen to disrupt the routine (vacation, illness, work schedule changes, etc..) and it all goes out the window. I used to have a high stress job too, but made a change to another department where I can thankfully leave my work behind at the end of the day. The only trade off is a more erratic schedule which makes routine building a challenge, but technically I have more free hours than I used to. I need one of those 'life coaches' I keep hearing about to get me back on track, lol!! As for a private channel, Discourse, Slack and Discord are free, although I have little experience myself besides using Discord once or twice last year.

My mid year update: working on my second draft, still in act one. My project is a sci/fi thriller romance thing.
Alyssa, how do you work so damn fast? My project still feels so clumsy and badly written. It takes me a long time to draft but im trying to power through and not think too much about it.
Im seriously already dreading editing though... its a big project. Close to 500 pages I think 😢 please send your thoughts and prayers and beta readers 🙏
