While I enjoyed this video overall, I wanted to point out that your thumbnail states, "editor roasts my query," which is not at all close to the truth. That makes this feel very clickbaity, and clickbait always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

💙 i'm definitely thinking about nanowrimo! i'm in the midst of plotting a new novel (had it in my head since march) and I have all the hard parts plotted, now i just need to synopsis plot (which.. when i say synopsis plot i mean write 50 pages explaining in detail what happens, i guess my outline always turns out to be more like a zero draft ahaha). i'm HOPING i get to work on this. we shall see cuz i have my current novel with readers rn so i'm hoping i won't be in the midst of revisions still come november cuz i'd really like to try and draft smth.

I’m often worried that some potential rewards will be sold out or discontinued soon so I haven’t gotten the things when I reach my goals so that has been ineffective for me. I think I should change them to something like a Starbucks drink. Or a cookie like you mentioned! ☕️ 🍪

I went back to sleep after this stream... and woke up to the sound of the doorbell about half an hour ago. omg, I kid you not, it was a police officer. I was thinking, "Oh shoot, the FBI told him about our chat this morning!?" XD But I was still sleepy so I think he couldn't tell that thought crossed my mind. Apparently, someone called 911 but hung up; and the location pinged in my area so they were here to check up on us. I also felt pity for him. It's 85 degrees today, and the police have to wear long sleeved black uniforms, even boots that look heavy. My mom and I think someone who isn't one of our nearby neighbors came over this way and called while in this part of the neighborhood. (We live in a suburb.) I think the officer believed I was saying the truth, as my voice was husky, and I couldn't see well without corrective lenses, etc.

So glad to know I'm not the only one that has to say my intro more than once even though I've said the same thing for years.

Hi Alyssa, thank you for making the replay accessible! I've set an alarm to wake up in time for your livestreams, but I actually don't hear it... I have a bad habit of sleeping late, which has rendered me unable to get up around 4 am PDT. It's cool that you are setting goals for a marathon / another triathlon / etc! :) During this stream, I managed to do 8 pages of Line edits in a screenplay. Wish I could've been faster, but it's still progress I made. I was motivated by my curiosity about your triathlon experience last Saturday. :D

I'm cackling at the "you didn't drown" poster LOL CONGRATS ON FINISHING!!! 🥳 OKAY, interrobangs I thought were the ? and ! _combined_ as in "‽" which is objectively horrible. But if you have a bit of dialogue ending with "?!" I think that's fine if it fits your writing voice, the character saying the bit of dialogue, and as long as it's not overused. I don't see it often in books and when I do it's maybe once or twice in the whole thing. It feels kind of like using all caps when a character is shouting. Overdoing it almost lessens the impact, you know? You know?!

Congratulations! am always in awe of your energy and stamina. And I can so relate to not wanting to mess up the already 'perfect' draft that you're querying - but the only rule is do it if it makes the book better. Creating a copy of my 'good' draft and using that one to make any changes I want is the only way I'm able to feel like the stakes are low, reminding myself that I don't have to keep it if I don't want to. So admittedly I've never seen an interrobang in any book I've read(although that might mean I'm reading all the wrong books!?). But that doesn't mean the world doesn't need more of them, lol!

Maybe we'll see a bit of that 'redacted reason' in your query vlog? 😂

ok but i love Hokas -- ok but I am actually confused as to why the main feedback was *line edits* for not accepting the full....??? Line edits are so fixable in the editing stage? Ugh, i am SO SO sorry - rejections truly always sting, but you are handling it with grace! Let the emotions flow through and there will be more agents out there ready for your work 💗

I’m behind on all my watch laters so excuse the late comment, but that agent sounds so… I don’t want to say unprofessional, but like?? Line edits? Unless you sent a draft that was full of typos and grammatical errors (which I know you didn’t) I feel like that’s no reason to reject it. Especially if she supposedly enjoyed it. And the dialogue tag thing for “he/she/they asked” feels very wrong. Like I said, this person seems wrong on a lot of fronts. And the fact that she didn’t even explain what she was saying, it’s like “thanks for nothing.” I don’t know! Very bothered on your behalf!

I relate SO HARD to your reasons for going with traditional publishing. I feel like the more control I have over the distribution/marketing/etc the more I will be a perfectionist to the point of just never getting my books out there.
