I completely relate to the line level intimidation. It definitely becomes the place your skill is on full display, so you are NOT alone in that! I think I've taken a lot of comfort in the knowledge that I don't have to walk through those edits alone unless I choose to. If getting my book to the most elevated version it can be requires a more experienced set of eyes, then I can always add in that resource! Revision & being willing to change what you're passionate about to make it the best it can be is not for the weak! You are killing it & inspiring so many people in the process! ❤
I totally get the trying to figure out what characters should talk about when you need to show a relationship but also need it to match the circumstances of the book- loved this vlog!
I have a tip for when you’re diving in to line edits! I always like to read books that are in a similar style to mine (or a style I want to replicate in some way). That ALWAYS helps my writing craft on a line level and makes me so inspired!!
Yes!! This is def something I want to do more!! I heard Kris MF mention in a vlog that she reads before every writing session and I thought that was so smart. I also want to try transcribing a scene that I like from one of my fav books in word, so my brain can process what it’d be like to write like that? If that makes sense yaya
I am also currently doing a lot of restructuring in my novel. I have to draft a ton of new scenes because my previous draft was so rushed. I’m slowly working my way through using some ‘progress bars’ I made for myself that I get to color in, much like your circles. Thanks for giving me that idea, it’s so satisfying and motivating. I totally agree that staying in the writing headspace helps speed up revising. I watch writing vlogs when I want to get in the zone because seeing other people work on the same thing I am I super inspiring. I also make goals- my current ones are drafting five new scenes a week and working on it an hour a day. I might tweak the scene goal after the four weeks I have planned, but I’m hoping to keep to my hour a day goal. 🫎
enjoyed the vlog!! (insert moose emoji here b/c i'm on desktop lol) 💛 i think the way you're tracking your revising (the bubbles in your journal) is super cute and also encouraging. i bet it's satisfying to fill them in!! i'll have to try doing something similar with my zero draft goals (^:
@@mirandatheauthor hahaha love the (insert moose emoji), so glad you enjoyed the vlog! I totally recommend doing something similar, I’m obsessed with the circle tracking system!!
3:42 The level of focus indeed. Rooting for your fix of the speed dissonance. Because it's Los Angeles, it surprised me how the coffee shop / library came across as like a regular spot anywhere else in the world. As in: the traffic density of human beings in there wasn't enough to knock out out of your seat. Not sure since the previous vlog what gutting and rearranging chapter 3 exactly entails for you ... perhaps I just brain-farted on a key piece of context you provided ... but I'm taking your word that the ball will stay rolling. You seem really confident about the rest of the book, which means there's less on your plate to divert your energy from getting the dirty work done. Out of curiosity, what screenplays were you given in film school to teach you the craft? I know (famously) that Back to the Future is used at UCLA as the template for what "perfect" looks like, but if I recall correctly, you didn't go to UCLA. Ohhh yeah ... failure to stay within the project headspace is how many of my outlines never make it to a draft. 14:36 Egg bites? Did you just say egg bites? You caught me right after having an egg sandwich ... we had the same idea! LOL.
🫎 You are putting In the work. Good luck with this round (and house hunting) And I’m slightly jealous of your coffee house selection. Have not found one here yet that doesn’t feel …cold lol.
@@readingwritingrhayne Oh dang for some reason I thought you were insinuating you were also in LA too (Brielle's in LA and so am I) 😭 If you're ever in SoCal I got you with all the cool coffee spots.
@@readingwritingrhayne thank you thank you! Lol yes, I am absolutely spoiled in the cute coffee shops department lol. And thank god bc they are essential for my productivity 🤣
For the fun thing for thensisters to talk about maybe try to imagine their day-to-day trying to survive in the dystopian land. Maybe they went cow tipping and almost got caught. Looking to our pretechnology past could help with this.
HAHAH NOT YOU BRINGING THE MOOSE EMOJI ONTO THE CHANNEL but for whatever reason it won't let me paste a moose emoji so here's a deer instead 🦌 if you need me, i'll be patiently awaiting for your first few chapters to be sent my way
Regarding the conversation between the sisters, perhaps they could have a shared hobby? Even the most oppressive societies have some level of recreation - State sanctioned sporting events or (propaganda filled) theatrical performances, music of some sort. Anyways, I've been enjoying your vlogs. Cheers.
Don’t make them talk about boys they’re going to fail the bechdel test in their intro scene together! But also this sounds like a hard dialogue to write.
started watching this literally the SECOND i opened my eyes this morning 🫎✨
honored to be the first thing you saw this morning omg 🫎✨

Lolol I’m the opposite. I’m most looking forward to line edits than rearranging so many scenes 😅 That journal looks so coooll

She does!
