I’m 12/43 chapters into mine and so far you are absolutely right. It’s been just as, if not more work than the first draft, BUT about 10x more rewarding to see come together!

If you write in Scrivener, there's a feature that will pull dialogue for you so you can hyper focus on it.

Birthdays became so important to me! I'm writing a series (debut was just announced 🫣!) and ages and such become very important as the series goes on. I have the Thesaurus books and they are sooo helpful!!
Oh, I just noticed you're a Scrivener writer. I hope you are saving your backups to Dropbox. Many writers have lost entire books to hard drive failures with Scrivener. Unless you set it up beforehand, if your hard drive fails your book is gone with Scrivener. I prefer cloud-native editors like LivingWriter or Reedsy. no one has ever lost a book with those.

I have to say I agree with @bluehbookstuff, I'm obsessed with your channel too! I'm writing a trilogy (series). I just wrote my first book, editing at the moment, but this is another set of book completely different. I write romantic thriller, but your channel has been so helpful in how I approach my writing and developing my characters. you are awesome!!!

Edit: I had to finish watching the video today. The Emotion Thesaurus looks so helpful! I'm glad to see that you're catching so much that needs to be done for draft 2. I agree that everything you've mentioned will most definitely make draft 2 longer than draft 1, and it sounds like you've taken a lot of time to really examine what draft 2 needs. I can tell how passionate you are about this project with how thoughtful you've been, and it makes me even more excited to read the book when you publish. 😀

scrivener has a feature to focus dialogue. in edit, then writing tool. dialogue feature. it blurs everything that's not in " ".
