    Just did my first readthrough this past weekend. I was ripping that thing to shreds and now, as I sit at my desk, I realize how much work it is going to be to implement everything.. it's fine! We are going to chip away chapter by chapter! Both my book and I will be better for it in the end! Best of luck to you in your revision process! :)

    I loved this! It's so nice seeing a video showing what it's like after reading a draft and realizing all the mistakes/plot holes/things that can be expanded on. Reading a draft can sometimes feel defeating when you see all the marks, so I appreciate you showing the process. It shows that everyone goes through it lol. I'm so excited to see the final result of this book and the steps leading up to it. 🙂

    I didn’t get a physical copy of my previous draft because I knew it was a mess chronologically, but I’m currently revising as well. I went through my whole draft and made comments on the side about reordering scenes and entire chapters and just dove into revising.
    I fully agree with what you said about ‘committing’ to and ‘selling’ a detail in the novel. I once read a writing tip somewhere that if you need a ‘flux capacitor’ in your novel, just do it. This of course referring to Back to the Future- we know the flux capacitor makes time travel possible but not how exactly it does it. And it’s a great movie! The audience accepts that this thing is what makes another thing possible and moves on. That’s definitely something I have to keep in mind myself when I feel the urge to describe how some magic rule in my world works, haha.
    And when I re-read, I also found some repetitive sentences and tried to convince myself it’s just part of my ‘style’ haha. But I’ll just have to suck it up and change them.
    I’m glad you’re seeing edits that you feel like you can easily tackle, that’s always really encouraging rather than staring at a scene/chapter and thinking that something is wrong but not being able to put your finger on it.
    And great choice for the emoji, I adore dragons. 🐉

    Hard agree about working from home! I love my job but it can be difficult switching from work to creative writing, especially when I'm having a great writing session and I get a Teams meeting alert lol😅 like how rude, I'm writing a book guys leave me alone.

    I completely relate to the stuff you said about having a 9-5. I actually have a 11pm-7am job and at top of that I’m taking my master and sometimes is very hard to differentiate the feelings because we’re feeling very tired but the ideas are running and you want to write but mentally you’re exhausted. That for me is the hardest to try coordinate. That would be an interesting video btw 😊 loving your videos and streams! Keep up ✨

    I use Google map to calculate distances... and you can see how long a trip takes whether you walk, bike or drive... I would use that to calculate your travel time... You just have to pick if your characters travel the equivalent of LA to SF or LA to Seattle? or anything else

It’s been hard and sometimes I have to take a break or find a different writing space (I only have the one desk so i use it for both work and writing) to keep it not feeling like work.

    Honest question: how’d you stay consistent and finish drafting, through womanly struggles and just general fatigue? I’ve been going through period depression (I have long, painful periods) and it’s made me stop writing for a while. But I’m also depressed over the fact that I CAN’T write and no longer have that outlet for my emotions. Did you quite literally write in your bed? Because I literally can’t sit without hurting.
    Thanks for reading my little essay 🥰 and I just wanted to say that I love listening to your process 🤍 the test scenes sounds cool. I might have to try that during revisions. We love foreshadowing and connecting threads 👀👀

    • @briellewrites
      @briellewrites  5 месяцев назад +2

      Hiii! I’m sorry you have to deal with that ❤ I don’t have any personal experience with that but, I think there’s nothing wrong with writing in bed! I find writing to be a nice distraction sometimes when I’m not feeling well. But be kind to yourself and don’t push it if it’s making you feel worse ❤

      I don't want to diagnose you or anything, but I went through that my whole life, and by the time a gyno listened to me about it and I had surgery, I had Stage IV Endometriosis. They took everything out because it was so badly diseased from it. :( I hope that's not the case, but I've been trying to raise awareness for my girls with painful menstrual cycles. But I recommend heating pads and talking to your doctor about RX strength anti inflammatories.

    • @Ebony.B
      @Ebony.B 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@nicolinasurel my mum had a large ovarian cyst at 16, I’m 18. It was after she had her grade 8 immunisations though, so she thinks it could’ve been a reaction to it. I didn’t get those immunisations, painful menstrual cycles run in the family.. but we don’t trust doctors nowadays. I do use heat packs and I drink anti inflammatory teas. I take pain killers if it’s that bad. I just deal with it. I’m sorry you had to deal with that btw 🤍
