I love playlists and I feel like I use them in the start but when I’m longer in the book I don’t always listen the music. Also I use Pinterest boards and I have my own twist with it. I always love to do wallpaper for my phone and iPad that has the Pinterest photos.

I really love playlists, they help me so much during the writing process. I usually start making one when I’m still at the brainstorming stage, and by time I’ve finished drafting it has changed a lot. I especially listen to the playlist associated with my wip right before I jump in a writing session, so I can get in the mood for the story before I start writing📚❤
I love that! I’ve been listening to mine a lot more than I expected, sometimes when I don’t have time to write it’s a nice way to just think about the project a little :)
definitely gonna try the scents! maybe with a candle, too.. usually i just make a moodboard on pinterest, but not a playlist bc i feel like i tend to get bored with them quickly. although, whenever i do writing sprints, i listen to intense EDM/techno. the more action in the scene, the more intense the sound lollll good luck with your writing!

Love this video📕 when I wrote a book in uni I had the same song on repeat and now whenever I hear it I think of my character 🤩 if I ever get back into writing I would definitely create a playlist!

I never thought I would make a playlist for my books, but I heard this one song (I Hear a Symphony by Cody Fry if you *have* to know) and an *entire scene* unfolded in my head while I listened. Before long I had an entire playlist for one book and every song hits a different emotional beat for the characters and I get so worked up over it 🥹😂
I need to come up with some way to really get myself into the writing mood though. Something that when I do it I’m ready to go.

ive just started doing pinterest stuff. ive made some fun boards for a couple projects, including one i started back in 2021 (im now on draft 3 of it), for both characters and the general vibe as a whole. and it's fun. i'm enjoying that.
i did try the playlist thing last night. im actually REALLY bad at music because im someone who (99% of the time) prefers absolute silence when i'm writing, but i found some good songs for my draft 3 project (and was surprised just HOW indie/folksy they were) including a song with the love interest's name that was just. perfect. i haven't listened to the playlist (its only like 7 songs so far) in full yet before/while writing so i may give that a try tonight.
With the love interests name omg…. Nothing like the feeling when a song perfectly aligns. That’s so cool!! Good luck w draft 3!

I feel at the start of my story planning a Pinterest board helps and yeah for specific scenes it helps me as a visual learner.

I do make playlists and then edit/curate them throughout the drafting process, most of my songs are film and tv soundtracks though because I can't write while hearing lyrics! Vibes and tone are super important to me haha

I think I have like 3 songs for one project that I tried to make a playlist for, plus a playlist from Romancing the Beat, but it never really worked for me either. I really like music and it’s on in the background for most of my time, but not writing. As for Pinterest, I never really tried it but I normally use that site for like recipes and gift ideas, lol.
But I feel like knowing what doesn’t work is just as helpful as what does, because then you can fill your metaphorical toolbox with useful things for you, and throw out the ones you don’t use. I don’t put pressure on myself to try to make something work just because it seems to work for a lot of people.
totally agree! and love the metaphorical toolbox thing that is so helpful. its all so personal and agree there's no shame in having whatever methods work for you / not work for you

I've quasi-tried the song association when I wrote my first novel (a riff off a Norse saga so it was mostly songs from Vikings, TBH 🤣). The scent association is only something I've seen people pushing perfumes talk about, FWIW. And pinterest boards are too much work and distraction for me. One or two pics, yes. Hours spent curating a board, no.
