Ben and Meg, please, please, please enjoy your down time and light sabers. You have done a great body of work in one third of a year without a general contractor, or Chip and Jo, to plan and direct building efforts. The chicken coop build/modify was fantastic! Fire nights are so amazing! Getting the POD gone was SO huge! What I didn't hear mentioned in the vlog is the Herculean efforts that raising 4 boys can take. That alone is praiseworthy. You keep saying, "we'll get there", without realizing that you already have. The viewers totally give you grace. We are happy to see you when you are up to it. Thank you for multiple platforms. All the best and nothin' but love!

I'm sorry that the two of you felt compelled to make this video explaining your plans. Some folks think that just because they watch your channel that they get some say in your life, and some of the comments on your recent vids have proven that theres always gonna be someone out there who thinks you could be doing better, or that they have better ideas than you. PLEASE continue to 'do you' to the Nth degree and ignore those folks who are so bored with their own lives that they try to live yours for you. Universal love~

My stepdad always used to say this: the best vacation is a change of work. As a kid, I thought that was nuts; as an adult, I came to see how right he was. Doing what makes your heart glad is the best way to recover from doing what you must do to get stuff done. Have glad hearts. It's the journey and not the destination that matters.

I hope you guys don't feel like every video needs to be either 1) a big progress milestone achievement, or 2) an apology/explanation/excuse why there isn't a big milestone in this video. I think the audience just likes to see you guys do 'you' stuff whether or not it's moving the ball forward on the bigger homestead building narrative. We know by now that you're in a marathon, not a sprint with your property.

We had family helping us and they are full speed ahead type people (but they get to go to their finished house at night and on the days off). So smart of you guys to slow it down.

My hubby and I bought a 1916 farmhouse on 3.2 acres in 93'. It was in really bad shape. Everything needed doing. We have been working on the 2700 sq ft house. The yards, gardens, etc. So if your doing the math, yes it's been 26 years. So if you get yours done before that.....your doing great! We took off 5 years at one point. We were so burned out. So remember to enjoy your homestead and not grow to hate it. We still love our old farmhouse and the beautiful countryside around us. We have woods, elk, deer, bears etc. That come into our yard. Love watching the bald eagles flying around us. So just take sometime to breathe. It's too easy to over do.🙃😸😁

You’ve got all the basics there. Enjoy that. ❤️ We will wait. (We had our 1926 house remodeled and it took 7 months. We moved out and in with our daughter. That was pretty crazy too.)🤪 One thing ... we had contractors and sub-contractors and a lot more working on our house. That was an expensive and grateful gift to our older age. My husband worked and retired at 71 because he had a job that he loved. Really loved. I did day care. I adore your lives. You are both making dreams come true with your sweet family and dear friends. Take care and be healthy. In all the ways that healthy means.

  • @BirdYoumans

Usually takes 3 times longer than it looks like it should and cost 4 times as much as what you think it will lol! Life lesson 101. As long as you just move forward a bit each day, you will be fine. And that forward may or may not be working on a trailer or making a video. There will always be something else to do so just enjoy the process as you go. As you've already found, when you get "there", the goal post has already moved. We chase the horizon and it's either fun or a chore, just depends on whether we see the glass as half full or half empty. Winter is a good time to make soap and knives and how cool is it that you both now have a "shop"! On a daily basis it's sometimes frustrating because we feel we didn't get very far, but when we look back over 6 months to a year, we can see the progress big time. Be blessed!!

Please enjoy the holiday season with your family, get some rest, and when it's time to jump back in, the trailer will still be there! I needed this reminder to enjoy the seasons of rest and restoration. I think a lot of us forget to slow down and enjoy these down times, choosing to stress over the fact we're not getting things done. Better to see the need for some down time and give it to yourselves than get terribly sick and be forced to rest... your body will demand it one way or another. Sometimes the journey is the adventure, not always the destination. We purchased our home 2.5 years ago and almost immediately started gutting it. We tore our walls, floors, etc, with just my husband and I doing everything. All new plumbing and electrical, framing, Sheetrock, plaster, paint, home-made cabinets - everything done by myself and (mostly) my husband, both of us working full time jobs. What we found out about the same time as you is that, burnout is REAL. My husband has had to take off weeks at a time to decompress because, at a certain point looking at all you have left to do, all you can think is how easy it would be to just torch everything. Coming back from that is hard, so I’m glad you guys are taking breaks when you need it. Like you, we have another place to live while we renovate; unlike you, we don’t have a community to call and help us, hence why we’re at the 2.5 year mark and not moved in. But please, think of yourselves and your family first and most importantly.

If you don't take time to heal, you'll bleed all over those who didn't wound you. Focus on the fine art of leaving things UNdone.

I'm a big Star Wars fan! Just know that "Nerd" is the new cool! Love your videos but I can survive without a few so that you can maintain your emotional/physical/psychological health. Blessings to you and your boys.

Ben and Meg, I am so happy for you that you are taking a mental health break 💕 I do not know how to start a homestead from scratch but I did grow up on many farms that my father would buy and fix up and milk cows while doing so. Parenting is hard work, maintaining a healthy marriage is hard work, building your dream Homestead is hard work, taking care of all of your animals is hard work, maintaining your businesses is hard work. I don't mean to sound condescending when I say this stop... I am so proud of both of you for all of the hard work that you have put into your dream and your family! God bless you both and the boys 💜 enjoy the journey! Take time to enjoy life and I already know you have a lot of gratitude. I admire you both very much and think you are awesome much love to you and your family! Sheri from Minnesota 😘🤗

For those of us who have started out from scratch on our homesteads...we get it. We started ours in 2015. We are now 59 and 4 years later we are starting the remodel on our mobile home. The frustrating work involved outside & inside during the whole process has come from the "extra unexpected challenges" in every project we have done. Not to mention unexpected expenses. Mike works fulltime off the homestead so things go at a bit slower pace. Let's not forget the 911's...collapsed main line from the mobile to the septic tank...or the ac unit quitting in 100° temps. Burn out is a BIG DEAL. We were so crabby, cranky and tired. am grateful you have done this video..not because some are questioning you but because of the advise you are sharing..the realness of it all and how it's not easy to achieve. It's downright hard work. Work smarter not harder...and play..relax. Make lightsabers, enjoy yourselves and for goodness sakes remember your goal in your journey to where you are now. Your family is more important than any one of us out here. ❤🙏❤

So smart! Thank you for being brave enough to say you’re tired and need to let some things coast a little while, so you can take care of yourselves and the boys. It is a wonderful example and encouragement to me! The mobile home will still be there in the Spring, and by then it will be exciting and fun again. 😊

You guys are doing the right thing. Honestly, I admire what you have accomplished so far! Most people can barely do the everyday chores much less all the extra stuff y'all have going on. Please never feel obligated to make up content for us either. I am just happy to see the chickens, garden stuff and pigs. Everything else is a wonderful bonus. All of us out here in RUclips land love you guys!
