With the bugs on your plants, I use wood ash, a light sprinkle once a week keeps most bugs away.

Seasonal creek sounds like a pond that needs digging :) Why make the windows so hard to find just make frame different? you are down to the studs after all, just a couple 2x4's to cut at that point.....

I do wonder if it's rising water tables, which would also correspond with the reappearance of the creek. It could just be that water has less place to go to except up. French drains, yes, if so! As if you didn't have enough to do... Hey ho.
Now's the time to compost like crazy.. I'm going to try making huge leaf bins against the greenhouse to keep temps up, see if it works :)

Ever since I heard you talk about your personal journey (Mr. Hollar :-), each video I watch I see the deep connect the two of you have. The support you are growing between one another is one of the most valuable gifts you are receiving from this entire homestead experience. I'm sure you know this. I'm just letting you know that your viewers see it and appreciate it too! What you have as a couple and as a family is beyond precious.

Thanks for answering my question, and a whole lot more, i hope you sell out even faster than last time with the soap, you have made so much progress on the homestead, soap studio done, machine shop done, first year garden done, pod gone, animals, chickens and home school 4 boys, and everything else that has to happen, never think a progect waiting is stopped, it's just other priorities for now, and you are amazing what you have accumplished in a few short months.

Love watching your progress! It's great that you are flexible enough to shift gears when an opportunity like the hogs comes along or an entire Stark Brothers orchard shows up. May I suggest that you at least put a 2 foot high cylinder of hardware cloth around the base of the trees so the rabbits can't chew the bark off and girdle those babies. Deer on the other hand, love to nip off the tender young growth on fruit trees, roses and berry canes, and they do it at night. Speaking from sad experience, deer and rabbits are death on young fruit trees and can do extensive damage to even very mature trees, especially if the winter is harsh and they get hungry.

I am now disabled - mostly bed-ridden. I tell you this because when I asked her why it has taken this long for her to tell me, she said "because now with me living a province away and with your spinal injury, I finally feel like you can't catch me". Mice will eat the bark around the base of your trees as they get hungry through the winter. If they eat a complete ring through the cambrium the tree will die. Easy prevention is putting a piece of flex pipe around the base. 12 inches should do it.

In the future you could connect all your raised beds into a long raised bed. If you plant all your broccoli, cabbage, kale, collards, brussel sprouts, and cauliflower, etc together on one side, you can cover with a white row cover and grow them under there all season. Keeps the bugs off plants and helps have a great harvest. Plus you can grow tomatoes, peppers, beans, etc out in the open on the other side of the raised bed.

Seems like winter came early for us as well, here in Chicago. We got our first snowfall on Wednesday Oct. 30th and it covered the ground and also yesterday on Halloween. The poor children had to slop around door to door in the snow with their Halloween costumes all covered up with coats and snowsuits. Today it warmed up in the 40's f, and most of the snow melted. The thing is that most of the leaves are still on the trees.

For your broccoli...plant in early spring, using a low plastic 'hood' if possible, when it comes up, keep it sprinkled, or powdered, with white lime...which will kill and discourage any bugs. I use a burlap bag, small one sewn esp. for this, and it needs to be applied after every rain as as needed. Just rinse well before eating...this really works! Broccoli does not do well in a hot summer...so early spring, a Fall crop is good, too. Good luck.

Stalling on projects is a normal thing for Homesteaders, it comes with the territory. However, you are plugging away and still making progress!

    Great day !
You got pigs, just be careful with the babies , they will die if it's too cold.
My buddies always had a junk woodstove to keep them warm if need be.
Granted I live in the mountains of VT. But it sounds like your chilly there. Maybe a ton of hay and Mum is fine down there. I love piglets lol!
You guys are doing an Awesome job!
Jo Jo in VT 💕 😊

    When you remove floor.
Get a angle grinder put a sanding disk on and use 18 grit sand paper to remove staples and glue goes VERY FAST but lots of dust.

The gift that keeps on giving... knocked up oinkers! I love "bacon seeds". Crackling, lard...it gives flavor. If you don't use it every day, it's OK. If you can get some help, you can get tons done inside the mobile home.

Dry your greens before they freeze. I have dried lettuce, kale, chard, spinach. Then made it into powder. Use in stews, soups, sauces. Works great. I have half gals. Of each. Set for winter. Also have been picking chantrel mushrooms and dried all those and grinded them into powder too.

Hope you have some wire up on the cinder windows...neighbor lost some baby pigs to coyotes...they jumped thru openings and feasted...Bok Choy is the best greens for HM Chick Soup & HM Meatball Soup...we did both soups in summer and now are bagged and waiting for that first
snowed-in event here in Kennebunk ...getting ready to start dehydrating beef for HM Jerky...waiting for the London broil to go on sale🤗...
also have our HM Pickles and HM Zucchini Relish ready for the SNOWED-IN BQ EVENT in December....neighbors get together and there are
all kinds of food, at least 3 grills and a smoker...this year all are in our yard and it should be so much fun...everyone have take home goodies due to the amount...
