I noticed that the children were thankful that their family remained intact. They know that is the most important gift. Family, what a wonderful, powerful gift from God.
Ben, it would make me so happy if you NEVER replaced your Wonder Smoker with something from HD, WalMart, etc. Take a few photos of 'yours,' find THE spot you want to make the smoker permanent, get the appropriate fire cement for your materials, reassemble it for safety it in THE spot best suited for a smoker, and use the heck out of it PROUDLY! It should come in handy on HOT days when Megan needs OUT of the house to cook. And Megan, that meal was nothing short of magnificent! You 'do' know, don't you, that your future daughters-in-law will ALL hate you. You're showing your lads what 'can' come out of a kitchen and setting the standard HIGH for the young ladies to meet! One final note: Its great example for the boys watching Dad pitching in, and actively assisting in the food prep before and after its cooked....the young ladies will absolutely LOVE their father-in-law! I'm thankful for this channel and its wholesome content! : )
Dude, old refrigerators are a primo item for building a smoker here in Alaska. One of the very best smokers a ever had was built from an old junk refrigerator.
Another great video! I was watching with my 5 year old daughter and at the end when everyone was saying what they were thankful for, she jumped up and said, mom I love them! Can I give them a kiss! She then got up and blew kisses at the tv. Blessings to you and your family!
My son smoked one of his wild turkeys and the taste was delicious but it was just to tough. He has a large smoker and last years turkey was smoked and tender with a great smokey flavor, but it wasn't a wild one. Thank God you live in a country where you can homestead and own your own property. Thank God He gives you strength for each new day. Thank God for those beautiful children that are growing up in the best life in the world. They will forever be blessed by what they are learning now. You guys are a family and have begun a new way of life, don't forget to include Jesus in the life you now have, for He is life. God bless you all 😙

That has to be the most beautiful and touching Thankgivings I have witnessed. Everything from the food Meg prepared, to the smoker Ben was able to pull together at the last minute! Then comes the touching moment when everyone went around the table and talked about what they were thankful for. If this isn't what every family wishes their family to be like..... then I'm not sure how they'd find something better. Thank you for reminding us all what Thanksgiving is all about!
I was thinking that as well. I don't know where i saw it, but it was recently, someone made a simular item like this smoker. It also was made with cinder blocks. Alton Brown from the Food Channel made a cold smoker out of cardboard boxes. He even had a thermostat to watch the temp to keep the temp cool.
Nice smoker, even though you think it is ugly. It got the job done, the turkey looked beautiful and everyone seemed to enjoy consuming it. I'm happy y'all had a great Thanksgiving. A $500 one wouldn't have been better. He probably should get a rack out of a rusted grill at the landfill...maybe a door off a bad oven, too...and mortar that puppy into a permanent item. Could easily do burgers and dogs on it...BBQ, too!

I love how nothing fazes you guys. Turkey doesn't fit in the oven, well let's build something to cook it in. Meg you did an incredible job of cooking all those side dishes from scratch on your tiny stove and in that small oven but everything came out well and the kids were certainly appreciative of it all judging by how they tucked in. I didn't have family here as they all live in other states, but they were all on my mind when I made my dinner. I am 66 years old and have never missed making a holiday meal. Used to share it with the elderly man who lived on the 3rd floor of the building. This is the first meal I ate alone, since he passed earlier in the year. Thanks for letting us join you for dinner. Well the smoker was a bit less than attractive until you opened that cute door and revealed that beautiful bird. Then the smoker was suddenly transformed into an awesome thing of beauty. Well I started to cry with Meg on her thankful toast.. Love Yall. Wow your boys are gorgeous. Happy T Day to you and yours. I am thankful to have 11 years clean and sober. Five (5) different rehabs said I had a zero chance of recovery.

Happy Thanksgiving. I love your smoker...it works, so it doesn't matter what it looks like. I encourage you to raise your own turkey for next year. One year I raised 3 toms...best turkeys I ever ate! They make great livestock guardians too. It's mostly the intimidation factor...predators and some people are afraid of them. Mine were quite docile. Like geese, they imprint on the first animal/person they see. Ducks are a lot of fun too, but they are extremely messy, especially with water. But since you have a marshy place, they would be very happy. I prefer heritage breeds

This is premium homesteading! I hope you keep that smoker and maybe even fix it up a bit and make it more permanent like! Being self-sufficient (aka "prepper") isn't hoarding dehydrated food, it's having skills. You sir, won Thanksgiving! I too used to disparage putting stuffing in turkey until I realised that stuffing actually blows dressing out of the water! Although I probably wouldn't stuff it if I was smoking it though... I am thankful for my ability to do homesteading on my 1/5th of an acre (for now). i am looking forward to when i can get a Cob House, and i can downgrade to a comfortable hobbit homestead!

Happy Thanksgiving. I love your smoker...it works, so it doesn't matter what it looks like. I encourage you to raise your own turkey for next year. One year I raised 3 toms...best turkeys I ever ate! They make great livestock guardians too. It's mostly the intimidation factor...predators and some people are afraid of them. Mine were quite docile. Like geese, they imprint on the first animal/person they see. Ducks are a lot of fun too, but they are extremely messy, especially with water. But since you have a marshy place, they would be very happy. I prefer heritage breeds
Oh yes! Turkeys are on the list for next year!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. My first thought on your plans thus far __ you are the same as all those strangers who came here and found a place for themselves and their families. Many turned around and headed out on the wagon trains, you've done the same and are still in the beginnings of your journey. God bless and guide you all as you find your place in this wonderful country! And didn't you just happen upon the best piece of land ever? Way to go! This is premium homesteading! I hope you keep that smoker and maybe even fix it up a bit and make it more permanent like! Being self-sufficient (aka "prepper") isn't hoarding dehydrated food, it's having skills. You sir, won Thanksgiving!
I too used to disparage putting stuffing in turkey until I realised that stuffing actually blows dressing out of the water! Although I probably wouldn't stuff it if I was smoking it though...
