I'm surprised there aren't more cards with 2 HDMI ports. On 4K displays the HDMI 2.1 is the only one that provides sufficient bandwidth to run 4K 144hz without compression, so the reference model really should have had 2 DPs and 2 HDMIs and instead of 3 DPs and 1 HDMI since Display Port 1.4a isn't really sufficient for 4K monitor use.

I really like this one. I love the colour. I’d buy it. But I will wait to see how it will be the ASUS + Noctua version.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think there's a bit of confusion in this video since in some places you've just called it the Strix. Strix and Strix OC are, as far as I'm aware, two different cards with one of them being further overclocked. I assume this data is all based on the latter.
Dumb question here. A lot of the AIB measurements show 2 bars, while FE model shows 1. Are those for base performance vs overclocked, or something else?
Not a dumb question, this should have been clearer from the graph. Those are the two bios settings per card, which the FE doesn't have. Lighter bar for the faster / gaming / oc profile, darker bar for the quiet / silent profile.
So, get the Founders edition, put power target at 80%, set the fancurve to allow way higher temps, and enjoy a much quieter card than any of these options.
Man.. that card is super beefy.. I am a huge fan of the ROG Strix variants. I have a 3080Ti Rog Strix and was waiting to see what they released for the 4090... Hmmm now I am torn. Thanks for the vid... a ton of great information
Nothing to be torn about, these 4090's are over priced. Dont rip yourself off or reward nvidia for shitty prices. Plus the 3090 is still a very capable card and not becoming obsolete any time soon. Save your money and waste and keep the 3090 for a few years.
From what i heard w hardware unboxed - 4 important factors: 4 this card to work well: 1) your games need to support DLSS 2) your monitor has to nativly support 240ghz+ 3) it doesn't work or give much enhancement to low end quality games like Wow , Moorowind or Heros of the storm. 4) your psu has to be lowest 850W.
Have you tried overclocking? I think that's the real allure of buying top of the top models. Also, I'm interesting in seeing noise and power normalized testing as well, like TechPowerUp does. Testing them out the box is useful for people who don't mess with their cards, but I like messing with different settings. Could do with up to three noise profiles: inaudible, quiet, and LOUD. Thanks.
I'm not really an overclocker, and even if I get a certain percentage, there's no guarantee you'll get it as well. Given how overclocking was in recent years and how even the FE boost really high out of the box, I don't expect a lot of potential tbh. I might do noise normalized again, did that in the past but also making it power normalized is very time consuming. I'll think about it, but given we get these cards usually for a few days only, it's tough.
@@TechTesters I agree with that. Your video is on spot / exactly right (my english isn‘t so good). Compared to other testers you don‘t repeat stuff 4-5 times and talking much around. A compact review with all the necessary informations (thumbs up for the PSU part, my Seasonic TX-850 died with 3090 ti and 12900k :D).
@@TechTesters No worries, just do what you think is best. It might be possible to have fine tune control over the gpu power consumption using a game that has a resolution slider. Think Battlefield V has one amongst others.
Overclocking with just the software nowadays is simply not worth it as it generally gives you less than 5% boost in performance while introduces potential instability (some games would crash even with just a small OC). The only kind of OC that would give you a substantial boost in performance is the kind where you remove the physical power limiter and cool with liquid nitrogen. But that's just for the sake of OC and has nothing to do with actual gaming.

I don't think i'll be buying a new CPU since i have the 5900x ryzen which is overkill as is, but i'd like to have the newest GPU at all times.
I think the Asus TUF RTX3080 10GB (Rev 1) I have has a much nicer aesthetic 🥰😍compared to the RTX40 series in general. It seems we’re in the Intel Core cpu race (pre-Alder Lake) just pumping power into existing tech to boost performance 🥺😢. Now when power prices everywhere are skyrocketing 🚀 only makes these gpus (when at full tilt) less desirable for average gamers. I guess for those with deep pockets …… they can afford this GPU and the power bills for the systems to run at at its max performance 💸💸💸
I was considering this on launch day but the difference between models is so minimal, that $400 premium really didnt sit well with me since it has a 2 slot hinge and probably the worst anti sag add in it isnt useable in my Phanteks Entho 719). That bonus hdmi would have been nice, but not worth the 400 imo.
I will skip the 40 series...I rather have a smaller card with less power consumption...maybe with the 50 series or 60 series. Went from 1080ti to 3090 so I'm sure I'll be able to jump a couple gens again.
That blue and red kinda kills it for me. I thought that was rgb at first but nope. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to find the founders or the msi trio which don’t have that cheap toy look
Keep in mind you need to get a cable for your PSU specifically, you cannot just use this Seasonic cable I use for my Prime PSUs on any other. Different PSUs have different PSU layouts so if you're not careful you can blow up your hardware (or worse)
Can you please explain how does Asus's Power Sensing feature work? If everything is OK there's no light at all? Because my 1070ti strix had white light constantly shining. Thanks
@DDD The more colors on the card, the more potential color clashes. Red alone clashes with x number of colors. Blue has a different set. Some overlap. But some don't, so red + blue means many clashes. For example: blue alone goes with many shades of green or yellow. Red goes with many yellow but no green. They both go with purple.
New to the GPU scene, when you say we get a dual bios, does that mean when we build the PC we have to physically switch a button on the card (the one pointed out on the video at 3:49) to activate it? It is not a software thing?

i have ordered this GPU too and hope it will fit into my Fractal Design Meshify 2
I'm not understanding what the extra fan headers are for??
I didn't get the ROG; I got the Gigabyte. It should be fine from what I've gathered.
Hype
Video about that one in a minute, you're more than fine ;) Enjoy it!
nice looking card but I would prefer it be all black. unless EKWB make a special edition waterblock for the 4090 FE I will be buying the asus strix.
Thats huge!! I am now wondering which cases can actually have the 4090 cards fit in them XD
Plenty of big cases that will fit actually. But definitely not all.
Full Tower is all I have ever bought. Massive room and air flow.
Full tower or larger should be fine. Itx and mini atx is probably out of the question though.
The 4090 is wild animal
The Strix is $800 AUD more than FE in Australia and has sold out 😂
Edit: for context you can get a 6800 or 3060ti for that difference
$3800 in Australia 😢
believe it or not but the dealbreaker for me on this card was the 2 slot hinge. Not only does it look out of place but it really says a a lot
Everything went from unavailable to sold out. Was on at 6am PST and never even got a chance to buy an FE
I tried as well, no luck. I heard from some that all their stock sold in minutes.
I am glad i did go with the Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC. Really good temps :D
That video is up in a minute! :P
@@TechTesters ow cool!
она у вас уже на руках?
That blue and red kinda kills it for me. I thought that was rgb at first but nope. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to find the founders or the msi trio which don’t have that cheap toy look
But it's facing straight down, I don't think it's that bad.. it's also a nice deep blue and red so it doesn't look like a cheap toy to most people.
Can you link that extra-long special 16x1 cable that you used to replace the smaller cable that's included with the 4090? thanks so much
Keep in mind you need to get a cable for your PSU specifically, you cannot just use this Seasonic cable I use for my Prime PSUs on any other. Different PSUs have different PSU layouts so if you're not careful you can blow up your hardware (or worse)
Can you please explain how does Asus's Power Sensing feature work? If everything is OK there's no light at all? Because my 1070ti strix had white light constantly shining. Thanks
Does anyone know how to change the lighting on it? Armory Crate doesn't pick it up.
What risks did they take with the Red and Blue? Looks like nice colours to me 🤔
@DDD The more colors on the card, the more potential color clashes.
EBuyer has this card listed at £2,250 which is a massive increase over ZOTAC and MSI which are "only" £1700. That is one hefty premium.
No need to pay more for the same card..FE performs just as good and has great thermals this time around…
Next, the MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Suprim X 24G.
