Yep, sometimes when the guest really isn't talking about anything of substance he can talk over him or her, but when the guest is speaking from the heart as Eddie is Howard steps back and let's the other person speak.
He sometimes interrupts when he feels like the guest is hesitant, but he also knows Eddie is the rambling type and not the one answer type of guy, so he lets him talk.
I'm so happy that I got to see Chris perform live three times. Twice solo and once with Soundgarden. Truly an amazing singer. There will NEVER be another one like him.
I have waited a lifetime for this interview and it did not disappoint. Howard did a great job and this was one of the best interviews he has ever done. Eddie seems like a pretty vulnerable person and Howard got him talking and more important he let him talk and didn't interrupt. It was really something special.
So many reasons why we love and respect Eddie Vedder for the person he is, for Chris Cornell for the person he is and for Lily Cornell Silver and who she is and who she has yet to become #Journey_Life_Roads...........music is the tie that binds , friendships bonds your heart and some never end .......#SurfingDaughters #DogsInThe Rain #LostBrothers_StayInYourHeart
Yeah Lily is a Bad Ass!!! Shout it Eddie!! That other stuff is so heavy it took Chris down , I hear ya man! Brave of him to go on Stern. Felt a crack in my heart for him cos he could barely utter the name "Chris," due to both his brother and best friend being of the same name and dying within such a small timeframe. Liked how he kept his memories of Chris on Stern strictly to the same ones he shared with Lily first on her show Mind Wide Open.thataboy x
One of the deepest questions you could probably ask anyone ever on your show. Good interview/conversation. RIP CC. And did not know about Ed's brother. RIP Ed's brother.
So shocked to hear they had only seen each other 4-5 times in the last 10 years. I feel like that widow of his really stole him away from all the people who loved him most. So sad.
Fucking miss Chris, Layne, Andy, and so many more from that Seattle movement in the late 80s early 90s. At 54.... I'm still living it.... thank God Eddie is still with us!!!
They are both definitely the best voices of the last decades, I still have the moment when Eddie breaks while singing Black. My heart breaks when I hear it. Greetings from Peru. Long live grunge.
I know how much his death hurt me inside so I can't even begin to imagine what his friends and family felt. I loved that friggin' guy. So amazing and incredibly talented.
Hey, guess who else lost a brother named Chris? This guy here. He was take away too soon five years ago August, and it still hurts like hell. I know exactly what Eddie's talking about. My brother loved Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. I love you bro! I'm still rocking as you'd want me too.
My brother died 5/4/17. Chris died 2 wks later. What Ed said about not wanting to see how dark he’d go this time.... I really feel that. Lost my bff 2/4/21. Haven’t allowed myself to go that dark again. Loud Love ❤️
I saw them sing Hunger Strike TOGETHER Live at Lollapalooza II in Houston Texas in 92 I think it was. Just braggin'. LOL Let me have it. It's all I got. LOOOOL 😅
- Eddie Vedder - Kurt Cobain - Chris Cornell - Billy Corgan ...these people made my youth ETERNAL with their MUSIC... and will always be... ...infinite THANKS from the bottom of my heart...
This is probably the closest thing that he got interviewed about his thoughts on Chris after he passed away. He was in the shadows the whole time (3 years) and thought he had bad blood or other unresolved issue with Chris especially during the brief ToD tour in late 2016.
Man that must have been so difficult to put together the right words while he was reminiscing. I am glad I grew up in the right era to witness to great vocalists. RIP Chris
I would imagine because he's in severe pain and he doesn't want to show it hard enough to talk about it. This is the first time he's actually spoke about it at ALL. He can barely say the word Chris !
This surprised me, as well. Nonetheless, they were like brothers and I would imagine those times when they did see each other, they just picked right up from where they last left off. A true friendship. RIP Chris, we miss you. 💜
didn't see him much the later years, probably because of his Toxic Wife. She's completely fucked with his legacy and seemingly alienated a lot people from Chris' legacy
The Vedder interview was much better than the recent repeat with the self-absorbed Demi Moore. I hadn't caught the beginning and thought that it was Jennifer Aniston, another lucky mediocre celeb.

Eddie and Chris are two of the best rock vocalists ever.
They're good...but let's not get carried away
I’ll never get over losing Chris Cornell. It will never, ever feel ok. What a loss. God damn it.
This is why Eddie is a genius songwriter. It’s empathy
Eddie is so protective of Lily that it is beautiful, I am so touched by how he spoke of her.
Poor Ed - still unable to process his loss understandably so
Eddie and Chris were a massive influence in my life and I thank them both for that
Andy, Kurt, layne, Chris, Scott. Can't believe they are all gone.
Who's andy
And then Chester
The last lead singer of the big four. RIP to Chris, Kurt and Layne
You forgot Scott
and Chester.
Damn you can hear the pure emotion in his voice , nothing but class ✌
this is why Howard is such a great interviewer, get the guest to start talking and don't interupt when they are on a roll.
Howard is the man loves to here people out
Yep, sometimes when the guest really isn't talking about anything of substance he can talk over him or her, but when the guest is speaking from the heart as Eddie is Howard steps back and let's the other person speak.
He sometimes interrupts when he feels like the guest is hesitant, but he also knows Eddie is the rambling type and not the one answer type of guy, so he lets him talk.
You can hear the emotion 💜
I could feel it in my gut
I'm so happy that I got to see Chris perform live three times. Twice solo and once with Soundgarden.
Truly an amazing singer. There will NEVER be another one like him.
EV's talking voice is even amazing
I have waited a lifetime for this interview and it did not disappoint. Howard did a great job and this was one of the best interviews he has ever done. Wow, wasn't ready for that. I'm glad Howard asked him to talk about what he was feeling there.
R.I.P Chris. Thank You for everything, Genius. Respect from Perú.
Tough subjects like this must be why interviews might not take place. So glad Howard Stern and Eddie Vedder finally got together. ❤️🎙️🎶
i never thought id see the day Eddie on Stern incredible rip Chris n Chester love
Yeah Lily is a Bad Ass!!! Shout it Eddie!!
That other stuff is so heavy it took Chris down , I hear ya man!

I waited for this interview for a lifetime. Thanks Howard.
Just want to hug him 💞❤️ So glad he has the love of Gill and his two baby girls 💞❤️xxxx

Hell, I wanna cry now. Wow... sigh. Grew up with Chris and Eddie. Thank you, Howard. This was really special
Almost love listening to him talk as much as I do him singing...a beautiful soul this man is.
I love hearing about that early relationship. Its just so fucking sweet. Thank you for being the best interviewer ever.
Chris was the first person outside of my family that I mourned for. And I feel so bittersweet when I listen to Soundgarden now.
I know how much his death hurt me inside so I can't even begin to imagine what his friends and family felt. I loved that friggin' guy. So amazing and incredibly talented.
Well said
What legend! Even if Chris Cornell isn't physically here, his inspiration is beyond life itself that he inspires to this day!
❤️
I'm really sorry man. hope you're feeling alright
My brother died 5/4/17. Chris died 2 wks later. What Ed said about not wanting to see how dark he’d go this time.... I really feel that. Lost my bff 2/4/21. Haven’t allowed myself to go that dark again. Loud Love ❤️
You know I've always had this dream eversince I know these guys that in a few years I wanna have two kids and I'll name em Eddie and Chris
Eddie, we love you, always remember that, no matter how hard times may be!
This is a great example of why Howard is so good at interviewing people.
THE.BEST.EVER.
Damn, Howard knows how to listen.
He knows how to put a talk ..... Man...
Lived the seattle scene in the mid -late 80;s fun stuf lots of bands at the dive Off Ramp, Phoenix
Eddie & Chris .. rock! ❤️
Stern and Vedder... can’t get much better
Absolutely.
What 2020 needed.
I'm here for you Eddie Vedder. Stay strong my man🤘
I saw them sing Hunger Strike TOGETHER Live at Lollapalooza II in Houston Texas in 92 I think it was. Just braggin'. LOL Let me have it. It's all I got. LOOOOL 😅
Sometimes I sing for Chris. I say, "I miss you Chris", and all I had from him was his music.
- Eddie Vedder
- Kurt Cobain
- Chris Cornell
- Billy Corgan
...these people made my youth ETERNAL with their MUSIC... and will always be...
...infinite THANKS from the bottom of my heart...
And Chester...
chester
Add Layne Staley and Scott Weiland and that would be my list too
Yes! And Lane Staley.
I’d add Scott Weiland
This is probably the closest thing that he got interviewed about his thoughts on Chris after he passed away. He was in the shadows the whole time (3 years) and thought he had bad blood or other unresolved issue with Chris especially during the brief ToD tour in late 2016.
Thank you for this clip.
I heard corduroy on the radio the other day after not hearing it in years. Man oh man what a great fucking song
So glad that the Howard-Eddie Vedder interview has finally happened.
nice to see a glimpse of ed's record collection😊
So he lost two Chris' in close succession? Damn! That's hard stuff. Bless you Eddie x
That was a great interview! Thank everyone!
I'm so glad that the Howard of this century let's people talk and doesn't interrupt them, unlike the Howard from last century.
Eddie is a class act
Man that must have been so difficult to put together the right words while he was reminiscing. I am glad I grew up in the
right era to witness to great vocalists. RIP Chris
My two heroes sitting down for a conversation... My mind is blown today! Please release the entire interview!!!!
Eddie is what most people in the Pacific north west live like 👍 just normal people lol
sad :( with all of it, a loss is devastating, just so sad!
How touching
Love that Howard knows when to shut up and let the guest speak. So many host interject too often.
Eddie a huge Cubs fan!! 🎸
I love Eddie!
Brilliant 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Two legends
eddie & chris 2 goat
Still makes me tear up when I think about the morning it was announced Chris was gone. It was my 53rd birthday. I am still speechless...
Too bad Howard Stern wasn’t so empathetic about Layne’s death
BTW I nominate Vedder for the coolest background during the pandemic
Rest In Peace Chris
Why isn’t Eddie looking in the camera? Love him.
he’s looking at the computer monitor where Howard is
I've heard him say he's actually a shy person
It's probably a Zoom call or something, camera isn't mounted on Ed's main monitor i suppose.
He's probably looking at Howard on the screen
I would imagine because he's in severe pain and he doesn't want to show it hard enough to talk about it. This is the first time he's actually spoke about it at ALL. He can barely say the word Chris !
So they only saw each other 4-5 in the last 10 years. That is somewhat a surprise to me. Thought they would hang out now and again.
His 2nd wife kept him from everyone. There is lots to know. You would be very sad.
Not really a surprise, his new life ostracized him from his past.
This surprised me, as well.
Nonetheless, they were like brothers and I would imagine those times when they did see each other, they just picked right up from where they last left off. A true friendship. RIP Chris, we miss you. 💜
Not anymore. Family issues I suppose. After Chris divorce.
Yeah, it’s hard to do when both guys were touring so much. When one had time off the other would be on tour, vice versa.
Ed always reppin Ian MacKaye. Ed has amazing taste in music. That Coriky record is rad.
Eddie Vedder for president 2024
Sounds like a great interview.
That was super hard to watch at the beginning 😥
whole interview please!
Shout out to Chris Cornell "thought i was different, seems I'm just the saaame"...
The best interview of Vedder that was great he usually comes off like a dork with that cubs crap
RIP Chris Cornell & Jeff Buckley
F*ck that's sad. Double whammy for Eddie.
Lily.
Only REAL daughter.
Chris took to Eddie after losing Andy Wood and now Chris is with Andy.
Two American Masters,,,,,
Damn man
CORIKY! Eddie seems like a huge Ian fan
I imagine Chris Cornell in Heaven flying around with big angel wings jamming to Holy water I'd pay to see that
Great interview and conversation! #thirtynoine
Layne was the greatest loss for me
Where's the whole interview?
Please someone help!!
Who is disliking this ....jeez no soul
🙏
that coriky record rules
Beautiful story...also i think thats Billie Ellishs album next to the record player, thats neat
didn't see him much the later years, probably because of his Toxic Wife. She's completely fucked with his legacy and seemingly alienated a lot people from Chris' legacy
😔
The Vedder interview was much better than the recent repeat with the self-absorbed Demi Moore. I hadn't caught the beginning and thought that it was Jennifer Aniston, another lucky mediocre celeb.
Shout out for Coriky.
God:(

Nothing is what it seems. Howard is now mainstream.
