    Until what age of the baby can be corrected plagiocephaly?

      Repositioning is most effective until 5-5.5 months or the baby is rolling consistently. After that, helmets are more effective (if the flat spot warrants it) and they can be started up to 9 months of age (after that even the helmets are much less effective).

    Hi! My baby is 3 mos old and has torticollis and plagiocephaly. I took her for an OT eval where they told me to do as much tummy time as possible along with some stretches. Would you prioritize counterpressure over tummy time during her wake windows?

      Hi, yes, I actually would, if necessary. I do a play circuit of tummy time, followed by supported side-lying for counter-pressure, followed by play on the back but still encouraging the head turning away from the flat spot. Counter-pressure is what changes plagiocephaly, tummy time just prevents it from getting worse.

    To everyone considering helmet please check sleep curve mattress for ur baby before going to helmets. Or you can just put ur baby in the position same as curve mattresses if u cant afford one

      It is very hard to correct head shape at 7 months of age with repositioning and counterpressure alone, as they are generally not willing to be propped on their side to play. They are generally not sleeping in one position either, which is a good thing in terms of the head shape not likely getting worse. If you are concerned, I would book an assessment with your local pediatric physiotherapist.

    We did this but it did not worked for us. Sadly my son’s head still flat now that he is 1yr old. We started doing this around 3.5months. Sadly the place i am with they dont recommend helmet. They keep saying it will resolve on its own. But that is case to case basis, i guess. Repositioning, counter pressure and so fort didnt work.
    Us parents should be given an option whether we want to go for a helmet or not.

      I'm sorry that was your experience. Helmets should definitely be an option if the head shape is still concerning after 5.5 months.

      How is your baby doing now?

    Hi, can this work for a 16 months old? My baby has a mild displacement, and when I brought it up to my pediatrician she said it was going to fix itself as my baby grows. It did get better but its still there. Please help me.

    • @milestonesphysicaltherapys869

      Unfortunately, at that age, it is very difficult to change head shape, even with a helmet. As the head grows you should notice it less over time, particularly if it only affects one quadrant of the head (ie. just one side on the back or just the very middle of the back of the head).

    My baby will be 3 months soon. She has plagiocephaly on her left side n flatness on the back. I'm repositioning her but it seems like the rest of head is also getting flatter n overall it seems elongated. Please suggest me what position should i put her so that the upper coner of her head moves to back of her head to make it round

    Hi, my baby is 3 and half month and has a plagiocephaly on his right side, I have been applying counter pressure and holding him most of the time and it feels like his plagiocephaly turned now to bracheocephaly 10 days later!! I don't know if that means it starting to work or if I made it worse 😢

      @floral hirra me from the future, believe me when I say it rounds out eventually! My son is now 19 months and nothing is wrong with his head so don't worry x

      Hi Amira .. when you say it rounds out eventually, is it after counter pressure? Or shall I just let my child be without any such counter pressure handling? I am really worried. Please reply. He has just turned 3 months with right side flat head.

      Hey there. Is there an update to how your baby's head is now?

    • @dietschegroosmame3596
      @dietschegroosmame3596 11 месяцев назад

      Give baby lots of tummy time. 40 years ago, when doctors recommended tummy sleeping, flat head rare to none. None of my babies suffered with this condition, and held their head by one month.

    Do you have any idea whether head shaping pillows help with plagiocephaly after 6 months. I’ve bought one for his pram, play gym and his bed. I am doing everything I can since 3 months he’s now 7 months and only a slight improvement.

    • @milestonesphysicaltherapys869
      @milestonesphysicaltherapys869  2 года назад

      Unfortunately, I have not seen the pillows be very effective. Ideally, at 7 months old, he should be on his head very little when awake, spreading his time between sitting and tummy time with brief periods on his back. At this age, most babies will not enjoy laying on their back for long, especially if they are sitting. If you are worried, definitely seek an assessment with a pediatric physiotherapist in your area.

    My baby has a plagiocephaly on his left side. So what good position to my baby when he sleep?

    • @milestonesphysicaltherapys869
      @milestonesphysicaltherapys869  3 года назад

      Try and encourage him to have his head to the right as much as possible. When he is awake and you are watching him, you can prop him on his right side to play.
