My son also has a flat in his back head and the upper right of his head is longer or higher than the left side. I saw this very early about two weeks after birth, to his doctor but she said it's totally normal and that was surprising to me because his headshape was just so obviously lean. I only hope he doesn't grow to blame or hate me for not getting his head shaped correctly right after birth 😢😢😢
Everything you’re saying so far is exactly what’s going on with my six month old. My doctor is not very helpful and doesn’t pay much attention. They say it’s normal, because babies lay on their head and that it will correct overtime. It’s something I’ve noticed since he was two weeks so I’m always worried about it. He has a bump of than a dip on the back of his head. They said it’s positional plagiocephaly. When baby came out, they told me I had a short umbilical cord. I’m curious now if that has anything to do with his head

I will start doing with him exercises everyday I hope it will work
Advocate for yourself. I pushed for my daughter who had/has a right tilt Torticollis. I emphasized it at my 4 month and she got referred to PT. We’ve been going once a week since about 5 months (took a little while to get paperwork through). She is now 10 months and is much improved. Now working on gross delay due to some low tone issues, likely exacerbated by the Torticollis. Now we’re working on weight bearing in hands, so that she will eventually sit her self back up. A ways from crawling. Take one day at a time!
Thank you so much for this video! It helped confirm a few of my fears and also confirm some of the ideas I had to rectify issues at home. I’ll be seeking out physical therapy for my baby because of you! Hopefully we caught it in time!
Wonderful! Hopefully more of the videos on this playlist will be helpful to you until you can get to Physical Therapy. Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’ve been getting worried about my son as he keeps having torticollis to the left then the right and back again. He’s been to chiro 3 times already and it was sorted each time, but didn’t last. After watching your video I realised it’s the GERD meds I’m on that’s aggravating it each time. Feeling a bit silly but very relieved now!
I really loved this video. Let me tell you my story… I noticed my baby around 3 weeks old favored the left side. I addressed it with the pediatrician and was referred to a craneal doctor to rule out craniosynostosis. It took me 1 around a month for that appointment and by that time my baby was already 2 months old. Well, we ruled that out so I was relieved but was told to do some exercises for the side preference and the tilt plus to correct the plagiocephaly. I did that until my next appt with the pediatrician and by that time he was already 3 months. His tilt was much better though his side preference was still there. I was referred to a PT and that took another month. By the time he was 4 months he started therapy. Now, he’s 5 months. In combination with the PT and what I’ve done at home he’s much better but the side preference is still there. He hates tummy time. His arms are stiff, from what I read he has fixed shoulders and his vision range to the right decreased. I was referred to the physiatrist and EI. Now, I have to wait 2 more months to get an answer and my anxiety is killing me because I also read something about Excessive tones on his extremities. What do you think they’re trying to rule out now? Cerebral palsy? I mean I’m led to that conclusion from everything I’ve read. I’m exhausted and the waiting time is terrible.
Oh I can hear your stress and fear. I am so sorry for all the waiting. It sounds like your child keeps making progress. I cannot make an opinion For a child I haven’t ever evaluated personally. Your physical therapist would be a better person to ask this question. I wish you and your baby the very best.
@@curreypanda6640 Thank you! I wish the same for yours. Next week is my appointment with the physiatrist, today I had an appt with his personal (through insurance) PT, Yesterday he had PT through EI, next week I will also scan for a helmet. PT wants to put a vest on for posture and sitting (I really don’t know the name of it). 2 weeks from now I have an appt with the neurologist. So, this is still on going, but I’m just hoping to get some answers from them to know exactly what I’m dealing with.
Can you please help me with exercise to help a child with mild acute demyelinating encephalomyelitis? She can't sit and Dr said her muscles tones are globally reduced, don't know what to do please help

Hi, my son is 3 month and was one of these Babies who stayed in the same position for a long time before birth. He preferred looking to the right side and we were told to position his head to left 2/3 of time (because of a slight asymmetry of his head). His preferred side flipped which we spotted a bit too late and he developed a (slight) flat spot on the left. In order to counteract we again encouraged looking to the right, which ended in him preferring the right side again. His preferred side switched 2 more times and we seemingly can't get him to not fall into a side preference. Furthermore, independent from the preferred side, his head is tilted to the right when upright or during tummy time. This is what concerns me the most. We are going to start PT but its not a classic torticollis, is it? Any idea what the underlying problem could be?
I have seen clients which sides with their Torticollis. One medical condition that can cause this is benign paroxysmal Torticollis. I am so glad you’re going to physical therapy.
Hi im from indonesia. My baby is around 6 month right now. I see torticollis issue at him. But in the same thing i see the less strenghtness at his neck. Is that possible caused for my baby torticollis case ? Im happy if you lightly answer this.
Hi. My daughter is about 8 months. Her neck was upright as the face straight when she was born up to this past 2weeks when I realized that she rotates her head from one side to the other but she has a preference (noticed) of tilting it right just like when you are in your walker and you watching but you tilt your head left and you can see the full side of the neck on the right. Even when she sits I saw this pattern lately. But it was not like this as I have videos and pictures of her holding her neck straight . Your advice
My son is 2 months old and has torticollis on the left side, but when he is lying on his back, he turns his neck to all sides. I only notice the difference because in tummy time position and when I carry him, he doesn't turn his neck to the left at all. If I try to position him looking to the left, he immediately turns back to the right. And he has a nodule on his neck in the right side.
@@pediatricPTexercises thank you! The pediatrician made the recommendation, and I am waiting for the appointment. I am watching your videos to try to help him as soon as possible, I''ll start with the exercises.
My son is 4 months and pediatrician said he is developing a flatness on the back of his head on the left. He said his neck doesnt turn all the way to the right. Baby prefers to sleep turning towards the left and when on tummy time he likes to lift his head and turn to the left. Pediatrician recommended to sleep him on his side with his head turned to the right. I also try to get him to play on the side looking to the right and placing toys on the right. Am I doing the right things?

Thank you for the very informative video . I have a question is on time of breast feeding can we accommodate torticolis? Or we can put baby’s head that way which can cause stretching of muscle . Need your guidance. Thanks
I really wish my pediatrician stressed how important this is to be treated and explained it thoroughly.. she said I could go to therapy but I could do it home too. Now my son’s torticollis is worse.
He’s 5 months now and his right side mass is the size of maybe two peas? I did notice he was positioned head down as soon as 5 months pregnant and never moved from that position
@@pediatricPTexercises thank you, I made him an appointment yesterday after your video. Is it okay for me to change his doctor at the same facility? Or is it looked down upon??
@@nancypalacios9840 I think as a parent that you have to consider what is best for your child. It’s important to advocate for what your child needs. If this means switching doctors, so be it in my humble opinion.
My baby is preterm born. After 6 month she started tilting her neck to left side pointing chin towards right side. She develop this condition and resolved and after few weeks again developed. It's happening again and again. What I noticed that she always prefer to sleep on left side and is very pro-active in physical activity. She has good rotation of neck and see on both sides equally. However, her head is bit bed to left side and chin to right side.
Thank you so much for this information. Needed it right on time. I have a question please? My kid is 4 months. I figured this right flat side behind of her head. Also, she rotates her head to the right side, sleeps often on the right side. I noticed the right side of her forehead got bombed a little. I started, immediately, chnging her sleep position to the other side, have been trying to make her focus on the left side through physical activities I do to grab her attention. Now, my question is, would it be possible that I can adjust this through a physical therapy? Do you think a 4 month baby's skull can be adjusted without reaching a surgery level? I'm Oumaima, from Morocco. I ve never heard of any of a competent physical-therapist in Morocco. They immediately suggest surgeries!!!! I'm trying to avoid that as much as possible. Thank you for considering my questions . Kind regards,
Four months old is still quite young. In the United States, we would put a helmet on to help shape her head. We would not do surgery. A lot of head shape change can be made with making sure that she does not put pressure on the back right side of her head. Nothing is permanent yet.

The torticolis side is the obe that needs to be streched, and the other side needs to be strengthned. You have to remember that. I used the yoga ball, i used to strech his nexk with my hands. I used to hold him in air so he holds the otger side and it gets stronger. It’s hard to explain in a comment, but better you take baby to therapy and they will show you the steps. My daughter has a flat spot on her left side from looking to the left;however she usually tilts to the left as well. Can the tilt and rotation be the same direction?
It can be on the same side, but that is uncommon. It is unlikely to be caused by tightness in the sternocleidomastoid muscle. You need to consult with a physician to determine the cause of your child’s Torticollis.
It could be something as simple as this was the direction that she was looking in the womb. Or, that she has gotten comfortable looking that way out in the room because of how you position her during the day. There can also be other more significant medical conditions. If you are not satisfied with your doctor’s opinion, you could always get a second opinion or get a evaluated by a Pediatric Physical Therapist
@@pediatricPTexercises I got her checked with pediatric physical therapist, she also says there are no tight muscles so it's not torticollis and therefore no need to do exercises. Thank you for this video. My son is 2 months old I noticed that he favours his left side by the time he was 3 weeks old, i asked 2 paediatricians about it and they said it was normal, I couldn’t shake the feeling something was wrong, especially that he also preferred to look up but he could move his neck to both sides and by the time he was 7 weeks old he could keep his neck stable for a couple of minutes. Today at his monthly appointment, I asked the doctor about it again he examined him and told me there was no shortness in either side and just to massage the neck. I’m still afraid and worried sick , I’m going to see another doctor tomorrow but the problem is I don’t think we have a physical therapist who specialises in babies here, I live in Syria. You confirmed my fear I know now that he has torticollis , I think he only favours the side because I just did the stretches while he is sleeping and his ear touches his shoulder on both sides , and his neck rotation is like you said a little behind the shoulder. I don’t know what to do now. Plz can you give me some advice? Ps: he can stretch his neck to look up.

When I was born(68 years ago) I had something like this, they called it wry neck. Doctors told mom to prop my head with sandbags.

Hi im from indonesia. My baby is around 6 month right now. I see torticollis issue at him. But in the same thing i see the less strenghtness at his neck. Is that possible caused for my baby torticollis case ? Im happy if you lightly answer this.
Yes torticollis usually has more strength on one side compared to the other
I know it’s dependent upon the severity but how soon after starting exercises/stretches should you see improvements?
Often, I can see improvements by the next session, which is usually a week away
Your advice
If you are concerned about it, I recommend you have your child evaluated with a local pediatric therapist who is familiar with Torticollis.
Thanks for the info.
Is torticollis associated with head lag?
I often see a head lag with children who have a Torticollis
My son is 2 months old and has torticollis on the left side, but when he is lying on his back, he turns his neck to all sides. I only notice the difference because in tummy time position and when I carry him, he doesn't turn his neck to the left at all. If I try to position him looking to the left, he immediately turns back to the right. And he has a nodule on his neck in the right side.
Sounds like he has a mass in his sternocleidomastoid muscle. Period. I recommend you consult with a local physical therapist.

Have you seen Torticollis with cervical rotation and lateral flexion on the same side?
Yes
My baby is preterm born. After 6 month she started tilting her neck to left side pointing chin towards right side. She develop this condition and resolved and after few weeks again developed. It's happening again and again.

My baby has this same issue, did you ever figure out what it was?

Hi.what about flat head?is there a treatment
Cranial banding addresses head shape. Physical therapy addresses the movement problem causing the head shape
My Dr says our 4 month old daughter has no tight neck muscles but she keeps her head to one side. What could it be
It could be something as simple as this was the direction that she was looking in the womb. Or, that she has gotten comfortable looking that way out in the room because of how you position her during the day. There can also be other more significant medical conditions. If you are not satisfied with your doctor’s opinion, you could always get a second opinion or get a evaluated by a Pediatric Physical Therapist
