The pace of shot and service returns of Seles matched with the incredible hands of Hingis was a winning combination. 44 grand slam singles titles represented on that court.
Yes, Seles and Hingis had better technique and timing, Venus and Serena started to realize that its not all about power in doubles, but their natural tendency to go for pure power betrayed them on several crucial points.
This was a short period of time where woman’s tennis was better than men’s. 4 grand slam singer winners playing doubles felt so prestigious to me as a kid and still To me now
Doubles is all about strategy and she was an excellent strategist. Even with her weak serve, her first volleys were always stellar and got them back to neutral.
without doubt Martina Hingis was probably one of the smartest players in women's tennis. Her guile and craft in the game were unmatched but unfortunately no match for the brute strength of Serena and Venus
An amazing time in womens doubles. Tough loss for the WS, Serena played brilliantly throughout but kind of bottled the ending. I think she wanted it too much. Vee started a bit slow but went god-mode on some of those key points near the end. Seles a little slower than the others but that return of serve is like a bullet. Hingis gave the cleanest performance, very few 'silly' mistakes. She was poised and smart at the net.
. What a crop of crap...they hated losing to anyone. You mean some white women hated losing to them...there was one in particular...look her up, the one that kicked Venus on purpose.
Serena and Hingus played great all match until the end when Serena blew a couple at the net. Monica was ok, but solid down the stretch, but Venus made too many UFEs. HIngis is such a delight to watch: so quick so smart, so consistent, so varied. She hs no serve, yet dominates
What a wonderful match all around. Monica should have played more doubles. It probably would have helped her singles game-as if her singles game needed help.
Serena to me is the greatest server of all time regardless of gender. She is so poised and clutch. She serves with such incredible precision too given that using a 100+ inch hoop. Experience has shown me that its much easier hitting smaller targets with a smaller frame like the ones Sampras and early-Federer used.
Williams/Williams should have hit more balls to Monica when she was up at the net. I was shocked they didn't. I was surprised Seles/Hingis did not try to squeeze a few returns down the line!

Crazy how Serena has more slams than the rest of the three combined. 23 vs 21. Just an insane number
If only this was the final! One of the best doubles matches ever.

To me now
My four favorite players on the same court. 44 singles slams between them. Legends.
In the first round no less
4 number 1 playing is absolutely incredible and unfortunately is not happening anymore 😢
What amazing talent on a court. You would be hard pushed to find 4 such players on the WTA tour in 2024!
Monica still has the best return and best ground strokes ever.
Después de Steffi Graf.
Extremely rare and special for any team to beat the William sisters.
Three of my favorite players and Martina Hingis.
Monica simply the best ever
Monica sales.. Amazing.. 🎉
Of all the top singles females, Hingis always looked liked she really enjoyed doubles, even from an early age.

This is amazing to watch!

This is sooooo good. Those were the days. Thanks ❤
3 MATCH POINTS SAVED AGAINST THE WILLIAM SISTERS...IT TOOK SELES AND HINGIS TO DO THAT.
They saved four matches points 😊
Elegance and techniques beat muscle and power!
the williams sisters hated losing to white women! especially serena!!!

@@normankennith7919Serena was a racist? 🤔
@@fundhund62 i agree!
Monica y Martina...dos grandísimas jugadoras...y muy guapas...❤
It was Monica's grit that won the match. Hingis perfected playing in doubles only later.
Excellent match
Monica's power was Awsome. Better than william's sisters. Now i know how difficult for Graf to deal with it.

Did their subsequent rematch in the semifinals of the Australian Open ever air anywhere? I've never seen any highlights on YT. 🤔
Yes, but it's just a few last games.
How far did they get into this tourney?

Great match, Williams’ got them back in the Australian Open a couple of weeks later.
Serena wasn't as huge back then.
Williams sisters need to be told. It's tennis not gladiators
Venus' vollies were so sharp
