I remember when I saw this with my friend in the cinema, we must have missed half this dialogue over our awe at how flawlessly they have rejuvenated Douglas here. I do. But I don't think it's happening. The CGI with de-aged Michael Douglas must spent a lot of money, they won't spend much money for a full CGI Michael Douglas movie. But they can find an actor that looks like him though.
Not likely. Its expensive to generate so much CGI for even short scenes like this, especially when they have to deal with close ups and how accurate they have to be without making it look bad, because the details on every frame must be crystal clear, and there are probably 5000 odd frames in a close up shot like that. Having to render each frame at such meticulously refined execution is very time/budget/hardware consuming, and they work on small scenes like these for months and studios are normally very strict on their budget. A feature length film with the de-ageing technique like this is not feasible at this point. But it probably will be in the future, I mean look how far we have come with VFX.

The should make a full movie about Hank Pym using Michael Douglas. He’s such a fantastic actor and they could just de-age him like they did here. It would be awesome!
For the 1980s flashback scenes, de-aging VFX were used on the 70-year-old Michael Douglas and the 57-year-old Martin Donovan to make them appear younger, and aging VFX were combined with the wig and make-up 33-year old Hayley Atwell wore to make her appear older.
I remember seeing this in theatre. Growing up I'd been a big fan of Michael Douglas, but of course as he got older he was in fewer movies. Then he walked into this one, and my first thought was, "Damn, he looks great for his age." Was absolutely convinced, until we see him Au Naturale, later in the film. And that was seven years ago.
1:20 Pym - As long as I am alive, nobody will ever get that formula Thanos- "That is a very interesting declaration. More appropriate to say 'no one on EARTH' lol"
Went to go see this with a friend, both our mouths were agape at just how flawless the effect in his de-aging was. We were so dumbfounded we actually missed the dialogue!
0:25 This has never been heard over internet and not sure someone point this out, but recently I saw this movie in Star movies and the first scene made me realized that this is Peggy Carter.
I'm liking how technology is getting better with making young people look old, (starting with xmen the last stand then tron legacy, they could probably go back and make those better lol,) but its getting more realistic, hell, civil war looked amazing with RDJ
The de-aging process looks brilliant i'd say it's about 99% there... the 1% being that there is something slightly off, and that's the facial movements not quite perfected. It's very hard to naturally to recreate or get the precise movement of an actor in a CGI form. However if you don't look too hard into it, it's near perfect! :)
I think a lot of that imperfection has to do with the fact that we the audiance know the actors' true age. So our brains naturally know that something is abnormal and can detect the CGI. That's just my opinion though
Lola and company did an astounding job on Douglas. I keep looking back on this effect as it plays and the lighting and action of his skin's movement across his face is so flocking convincing!
The de-aging was convincing but I just saw Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct the other day and realised that Michael was a lot better looking when he was younger. Idk if it has something to do with gaze or the fine lines he had.
People seem to miss the fact that Martin Donovan (Mr. Broken Nose) is also De-Aged in this scene. Just goes to show that when you don't draw attention to the effect, it hardly gets noticed. With Douglas, they have several shots showing off the effect, but with Donovan, the character is just treated as a part of the scene, so you don't realise that the actor has been De-Aged.
I knew that he was de aged too. But I think Douglas drew all the attention to himself because he was very famous in the 80s and people know exactly what he looked like back then and could compare it.
huge difference though is they had the actor's features to work with here vs. in RO where they had to remodel an actor who died 12 years ago, so it was more difficult o get looking proper.
More like 22 years ago. He died in 1994. But yes as you said it is much more difficult because this is a blend of CGI with the real actor compared to Tarkin whose head was completely CGI
It's much easier to CGI a young person than an old person. What gives tarkin away is how his old skin looks, with all the wrinkles and they way they move with his expression. With young skin like in this video, it's much easier because it's pulled tight across the face, and doesn't need to move much with the facial expression. It has much less texture too.
yeah, but the actor was not peter cushing. In this example, they used the same actors and modified their appearance, rather than starting from scratch.
it didn't. This was in 1989 which was 19 years after steve and tony stole the pym particles not to mention that it was in an alternate time line and steve probably put the pym particles back
I think they did an amazing job on this. The first time I watched this I was like, "Wow Michael Douglas still looks amazing." - and then I finally realized that its fx when he showed up again in present day
I dunno why but I just imagined Tony Stark turning out to be the son of Howard and Peggy... maybe in alternate universe... If that story hasnt been made and being released in the near future remember me folks! Imagine what that would bring to the depth of the story of Civil War (former lover vs her son) EDIT : oh wait but it would be a complete copyright infringement to DC's Martha...
STEVE: Tony ... I ****ed your mom. TONY: Oh please, you never even got to second base with her before you were frozen in World War Two. STEVE: Who said anything about World War Two? TONY: You're ****ing dead!

It really looks amazing when you see douglas de-aged. He actually looked liked this 3 decades ago
1:20 Pym - As long as I am alive, nobody will ever get that formula
Thanos- "That is a very interesting declaration. More appropriate to say 'no one on EARTH' lol"
This I found even more convincing than the de-aging used in rogue one. Very good!
in Zane the thing with rogue is that they used a person instead while in ant man it is still michael douglas himself.
Hank destroyed Hydra’s plans when he quited
Is that Peggy Carter and Howard Stark?
yes
No shit
SHIELD founders
Ajax, Your full of shit.
his full of shit what?
After Endgame last year, I hope Hank finally made peace with the Stark family by paying his respects to Tony! This scene has got a whole new meaning!
It is really cool to see the triskelion still unfinished
timestamp?
Peggy And Stark work together for 46 years since the war 1945 until he died in 1991 I wonder how she felt when he died
Went to go see this with a friend, both our mouths were agape at just how flawless the effect in his de-aging was. We were so dumbfounded we actually missed the dialogue!
Three years before T’Chaka clawed his brother’s guts.
They de-aged Michael Douglas so well, but they de-bloodied Martin Donovan too quickly.
beyondthetech i was about to say the same thing
0:25 This has never been heard over internet and not sure someone point this out, but recently I saw this movie in Star movies and the first scene made me realized that this is Peggy Carter.
Now we can finally have that Gordon Gecko prequal we all wanted.
APRICEPRODUCTION to tell you the truth this is it! This is already perfection :). 90% or more is perfection to me
I think a lot of that imperfection has to do with the fact that we the audiance know the actors' true age.
This marvel movie is criminally underrated
People seem to miss the fact that Martin Donovan (Mr. Broken Nose) is also De-Aged in this scene. Just goes to show that when you don't draw attention to the effect, it hardly gets noticed. With Douglas, they have several shots showing off the effect, but with Donovan, the character is just treated as a part of the scene, so you don't realise that the actor has been De-Aged.
I knew that he was de aged too. But I think Douglas drew all the attention to himself because he was very famous in the 80s and people know exactly what he looked like back then and could compare it.
0:53 I love how even Howard Stark is aware that guy tied his own noose.
This, THIS is good CGI, not like Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars Rogue One, _This_ is actually convincing.
huge difference though is they had the actor's features to work with here vs. in RO where they had to remodel an actor who died 12 years ago, so it was more difficult o get looking proper.
Tarkin was motion tracked. Real actor, just a different one.
yeah, but the actor was not peter cushing. In this example, they used the same actors and modified their appearance, rather than starting from scratch.
Anyone else kinda digging the 'older' Agent Carter?
i wonder if she can pull of wearing some lingerie 1st of all
Never bad mouth a man about his dead wife.
Or his dead mother, apparently.
they used to replace them with a younger actor, but now they can do this. we live in a glorious world for entertainment
Tony Stark was 19-20 years old at this time.
About 19, yeah.
Just think about it: Marvel can do this, and DC can't even realistically remove a bloody moustache! :D
Can I please have this kind of makeup when I´m pushing 70?
Daniel Andersson its not makeup. its cgi
Brihadeesh Sivakumar he knows. Its a joke.
Not only are the effects in this scene are underrated but the man who plays Howard Stark is underrated too
She's still pretty ❤️
1:51 I litterally drooled. So freakin hot!
nice, Howard Stark, older Peggy Carter, and Hank Pym in one room is still mind blowing to me
The best De-aged CGI i've seen, actually better then the young arnie in terminator genisys
Great upload.
That's an awesome recreation of Douglas. Great work to the studio.
Love that their building the SHIELD headquarters that cap would eventually crash a Hellicarrier into
Good
Ryan Fernando
The triskelion
I want a film in this era
What they did with Michael Douglas and Kurt Russel is unbelievable. The future holds no limits man
Wow! Amazing how they make Michael Douglas look young!
This de aging was so good
just imagine Hank's reaction when a Stark died to save the universe using his creation
I’m sure he understood
he was at his funeral so i think he understood
Having seen what Michael Douglas looked like when he was young (especially in The Game), that digital de-age is not that far off
Why is this so much better than when he was de-aged in Avengers: Endgame???
When you realize all this happened because of steve and tony.
it didn't. This was in 1989 which was 19 years after steve and tony stole the pym particles not to mention that it was in an alternate time line and steve probably put the pym particles back
Who's here after Endgame
RickyRisha410 Me
I think they did an amazing job on this. The first time I watched this I was like, "Wow Michael Douglas still looks amazing." - and then I finally realized that its fx when he showed up again in present day
If i didn`t know the real Michael Douglas i would believe that this is real.
Truly amazing what CGi are capable to do nowdays
Disney couldve use this technolgy on Harrison Ford for the Han Solo movie instead of recasting the role
I dunno why but I just imagined Tony Stark turning out to be the son of Howard and Peggy... maybe in alternate universe...
If that story hasnt been made and being released in the near future remember me folks!
Imagine what that would bring to the depth of the story of Civil War (former lover vs her son)
EDIT : oh wait but it would be a complete copyright infringement to DC's Martha...
STEVE: Tony ... I ****ed your mom.
TONY: Oh please, you never even got to second base with her before you were frozen in World War Two.
STEVE: Who said anything about World War Two?
TONY: You're ****ing dead!
LOL that would bring no depth whatsoever
1990 was probably when shield was in its darkest years
The Pym Particle, for a lack of a better word, is good.
Tracey Taggart Where’s that during the Corona Virus
