Honestly in a lot of these scenes it feels like people are about to explode but then it all simmers down right before the bursting point. It always ends with a "that went better than expected"
ya the show has a formula
as an autistic person, that is what talking to neurotypical people feels like, especially if you do not know them very well!
@@katiewhitson1552so maybe it shows how interactions feel for him! that would be an interesting theory
@@katiewhitson1552yeah things are scary when talking to a neurotypical it feels like I'm constantly in a fight or flight situation ( ;∀;)
Almost like a hemorrhoid
From awkward to super wholesome situation, Shaun nailed that hard....
the conversation or his girlfriend

Love it he Introduce himself in his own way
No replies is crazy
True
Hemorrhoid surgery is like getting pegged by a black dude named racquise
The relief Shaun had when her dad started laughing 😂
Yes
Just like hemmroid surgery! 🤓
the anxiety-autism of blurting out random shit is so real
Word
Fr
It wasn't random at all though. He wanted to make a point and used an excellent analogy to get it across. The point was relevant to the situation, the analogy effective, and at the same time strange enough to diffuse the tension that had been building in the room.
@@co8008
Still random to blurt out the first 2 words and take a pause. Lol
Well the non autistic people are talking about Vaccines at a dinner table, I think he's the most normal one there lol
“How do you feel about vaccines?” My autistic heart dropped, knew right where that was going.
Me too 💀
Wait do ppl rlly think vaccines can cause ASD?
*RFK Jr. Intensifies*
I feel bad cause I thought for a split second "oh doctor vacines.." Then when Lea said what she did I was like "oh that angle..."
I forgot that this was filmed before c0v!d, so that's where my brain went.
He made the environment so comfortable 🥰 and specially in his own style..such a lovely man
We agree!
😂😂😂😂😂❤
Coming from a doctors' family, this would be the best ice-breaker, but I would be at the next table while they shop-talk
The way that he likens the evening to hemorrhoid surgery is surprisingly accurate to my brother with autism! Sometimes he’ll present things in a socially “awkward” way but his points are always really valid. And the brutal honesty can be uncomfortable when you’re not used to it but sometimes it’s just what you need!! Someone to tell you like it is! Love this representation so much ❤️❤️❤️
My coworkers say it’s my secret weapon for dealing with awkward stuff - to just flat admit it is awkward 😂
The father has keen eyes.
"Is it hard? .... For you?"
If it was then he would probably be a nurse.
Being a certified nurse is not as easy as you think. They have to study many years, and it's not about how to wipe a patient's "derriere" or how to make the bed, believe me; 3 of my maternal aunts were nurses.
@@Ana_Ines3420certified nurse moment
@@Ana_Ines3420that’s what he said
@@beansontoast5996I don't think so.. the English isn't conveying it as well
@@Ana_Ines3420it's still easier than being a surgeon. Not saying being a nurse is easy, but in contrast...
"If we're so impossible to talk to, why even have us here?" GOD THAT ACTIVATED SOME NEURONS
OMG. I’ll treat many get-togethers like hemorrhoid surgery from now on. That is GOLD!
Shaun is not only good at his job, he's good at using his job as an example to better solve a problem
Like what he did when he learned to drive
Right like wayta?!
Is it me or do the female actors actually look like mother amd daughter?
Actor is guy and actress is for girl.
Yep I thought that too 😂
Probably part of why they cast the mom as the mom lmao
Man said in a nut shell.... Nothing we do or say here will ultimately change our circumstances or our ideals, but getting to know each other a bit over dinner conversation can at least make us more comfortable with accepting the facts of the matter.
If that's not the greatest nugget of wisdom I've heard all week 😊
his little “okey :}” at the end was so cute😭😭
Nah bro that username is fked up 💀
@@Aryaniscool disagree
The little okay at the end captured my whole damn heart ❤
He said it, he said the thing, “I AM A SURGEON”
"To hemmeroid surgery! 🍷" 😂
love how he gently said to them they shouldn't be pain in the ass 😂😂
Aww. That was sweet. I like how he got on their good side by being himself. If Lea talked for him the whole time, it would be harder for him to gain her parents respect. Somtimes you have to let your partner give thier own impression. Babying them like a mother would by saying things for them will make it worse.
Remember, when a character makes you mad it’s just the actor doing a really good job
"i am a sturgeon 🐟"
Man I’m always amazed at how realistically this show displays the interactions and way people treat people with autism, obviously besides the crazy superhuman doctor memory stuff this show is surprisingly good at it’s depictions
I love how he won them over and respected his woman and more importantly HIMSELF while doing so. I love Dr. Murphy!
Exactly, sometimes you just have to agree to disagree and learn to get along with people despite your differences. You can't force people to change their minds, people can be ridiculously stubborn.
Taking a holier than thou approach will only ruin any chances of reconciliation and burn bridges.
people just cant seem to wrap the concept around their minds that just because someone has autism, doesnt mean theyre dumb and incompetent. while yes, tasks that are simple for others may be a bit more difficult for them, doesnt mean they cant do it. it means they do it their own way that works for them.
FACTS. But then sometimes, people just won’t let autistics do things the way that works for them, and it’s frustrating when you have an actual system that works for you, but it just keeps getting rejected because it “isn’t good enough.”
@@MindyB2004 THISSS!!! im not sure if youve seen the video about down syndrome and she talks about how people dont think theyll be able to do something, so they dont let them try to do it, so they never learn how to do it, but that video applies to a lot of other disabilities as well, autism being one of them. and, off topic, but the fact that people still assume vaccines = autism pisses me off, no matter how many times its been disproven.
I have facial agnosia (aka face blindness) which means I can't process names and faces. When I was a child, for example, I would draw pictures of people and their faces would be blank.that's I 'saw' them. I relied on journals with people's names and physical descriptions that I tried to memorize to get thru school and then jobs as I grew older. I didn't have many friends because I just could not remember them. Even today people think I am faking and call me names. When I turned 50 and when Brad Pitt revealed he has same problem I gave up using journals. People at large will not understand things like autism, asperger's syndrome , Tourette's syndrome or facial agnosia. 'Imperfect' people like me must be accepted, just like the blind, deaf and physically disabled. We want to be accepted, not pitied. I wish all of us would be accepted, not just famous people like Brad Pitt, Lou Ferrigno, Marlee Matlin and Itzhak Perlman.
I think the reason her parents were so offput was because Lea was talking for Shaun, which could give off the feeling he is incompetent and needs someone to help him. But, in his own way, he responded for himself in a respectable manner, explaining what he does, and making a connection
The dad seems more chill while the mom is more disrespectful☠️😭
When isn't it that way💀💀
The ending was actually really sweet
Like a week ago, I saw the clip of his prepping for this dinner
*The algorithm hath brought me back*
Nah the minute she said “especially when she told us about you” after bringing up vaccines I knew where this was going and I was punching the air
😂🎉❤THIS IS GOLD AND IM USING AT FAMILY GATHERINGS THAT START TO GET OUTA CONTROL 😂🎉❤AS AN AUTISTIC SENIOR CITIZEN WOMAN I JUST LAUGHED MYSELF INTO GRABBING MY INHALER
Bro has the parent rizz
It's almost as if treating people with the expectation of malice will beeed hostility, and letting them be free diffuses tension.
It’s so funny and yet relatable 😂
If Lia's family is Asian the parents is gonna eccept this man almost instantly 😂
Aww 😢 he's so sweet
He wasn’t sweet when he was calling that little girl a terrorist though
Bruh I would RIOT if one of my partners parents asked “is it hard? For *you*?” Like bruh in that hypothetical case I would’ve gone to medical school and gotten certified for surgery, autism doesn’t have anything to do with that.
He looks like adult sheldon
He nailed that hard situation 👏👏
I love the awkward pointing
I loved this show. The wroters were phenominal.
Dude has the cheat code
😂😂😂 BRILLIANT !!! 😂😂😂
WE ❤ DR. SEAN MURPHY !!!!!!
Haemorrhoid surgery 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🦅🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
How witty these writers r brilliant
Every. Single. Interaction. When there is no clear purpose, and just "socializing"... Is now "hemorrhoids surgery" in my vocabulary.
I AM THE SUGEON! ❤
I wouldn't want to introduce anyone to parents like this.
I strive to be this level of awkward and conversational at the same time
Dad really thought Shaun made some "dad joke" 😂😂
That's a unique way of calling them pains in the ass.
I would not have married into this family for a million dollars. 🤦🏻♀️
What about a million and one dollars?
@@BrocoliMan2002 Nope ! 🙂↔️
“I am a surgeon”😂😂😂
We love you a lot, Shawn.❤❤❤❤❤
YYOOO that line was FIRE🔥🔥🔥
It makes me feel better every time someone likes Dr. Shaun
Every second of this clip feels so dang real! The mom n daughter look related, mom n dads expressions, like dads look of surprise, moms "excuse me" dads laugh and approval, Seans gestures and divulging what he's told in private and Leas pauses and natural concern! All on point! Writers and directors also deserve an award!
Make the best out of a bad situation I suppose 😂
the mom is so passive aggressive omg
He is a surgeon. Confirmed.
Just to make the overbearing parents comfortable.
I can not hear this man say "I am a surgeon" without my brain gping "Dr. Han!"
I just fell for leas father laughter, hes quite connects the dots so quick
"I am a surgeon." HE SAID THE THING!
For a guy who couldn’t understand people connection, Dr. Shaun, finds a venue for improving the communications channel of people and turns the situation into a level ground.
The parents are like Richard and Emily gilmore
I have to agree with the parents here. If a question makes you feel uncomfortable that’s on you
What kind of surgeon tho. He does everything
I love this show
„This list“ she should have put it onto the list of things not to talk about
“To hemorrhoid surgery🍷
You’d think that the antivaxxers would be tipped off that all educated and liscensed medical workers agree vaccines are safe. When the professional is telling you something, maybe listen.
I know I'd be a hell of a surgeon, but "no thanks" on Medical School....
The mom was on Tommy boy movie as Tommy's love interest.
HE IS A SURGEON , LET HIM COOK
Direct approach may be hard to swallow in the long range.. but, it is appreciated down the line.
I never watched this show but if it all this good, I really missed out!
Wasnt that actress in one episode of house md? Her daughter was elle fanning i think. She didn't want to get pregnant and was deceiving her husband
I have yet to see this show because it wasn't streaming on one of the streaming programs I have.
😂😂😂 understanding parents who gave birth to understanding daughter.❤❤❤
Its feels good meaning your loves family.
I need to stop watching theses shorts because I just started watching this show and I haven’t gotten this far yet but daaaang I’m so intrigued 😅😅

The first time he laughed 😢 😊
He laughs often have you even seen the series
Sighhhh. You can't cure wilful ignorance
The pointy okay was to the point
I AM A SURGEONN-
Besides the lie about "maxines don't cause autism", this is an awesome clip, and only from watching this little clip, I love those two parents!!
I hate how the only thing she wants to talk about is his autism.
I always hated lea here. From very start she knew shaun liked her but she kept on taking advantage while sleeping around.Only when shaun got in meaningful relationship with that pathologist ,she was not ready to let shaun go.Selfish.
These parent meetings.. geez
I loved this scene. 😂
