- John from www.okraw.com shows you how to harvest and dry moringa powder so it could be considered a raw food. Learn about the processing techniques that the industry uses to process morniga. You will also learn about interesting facts about moringa along the way.
Moringa's health properties make it one of the most nutritionally valuable plants in the world!
Great video thank you very much! Today I purchased 10 Moringa trees and planted them and can't tell you how excited I am. I'm also looking to getting an Oil Extractor to get the Moringa Oil out of the seeds. Cheers!
Hi John, great video and info about the Moringa. I just started growing this plant in Merida (Mexico) and invested in the UV light system to sanitize it without heat. Thanks a lot for your help.
Ive got about 10 trees in my backyard, so good for you!
Hi Michelle, That's a lot of Moringa! How do you cook it? We often eat it as a side with rice and whatever, but my favorite is a moringa broth made with chicken stock and pearl onions.
Just personally ‘discovered’ Moringa (Daun Kelor) recently and have been fascinated by all the benefits and how common it is - in some parts of the world - notably the tropics - and have been incorporating it into my diet more and more as opportunities present themselves. I love it. Great taste and I ‘feel’ better. (Placebo effect probably)
Yesterday I found a resto on the beach that had both steamed Daun Kelor AND Kelor smoothies on the menu so I ordered both! In fact I had two Kelor smoothies! The smoothy was made with Kelor, banana, lime, and a bit of liquid jaggery. (Location: I’m on the western coast of the island of Lombok in the Indonesian Archipelago - where Moringa grows everywhere and is a wild indigenous plant.)
Love the stuff! My friend has a huge moringa tree in his back yard, so lately I've been making them a big part of my daily green juice! Thanks for all the awesome videos John, You're the best!
You can strip the leaves much easier if you dehydrate them while still on the branches. Also, while you are dehydrating them on the branches, the branches themselves are still supplying small amounts of nutrients to the leaves that they would otherwise not be getting if you pull them off before dehydrating.
The uv light sounds good i have one i use in my business that i will use thanks for the cool idea
We have 4 Moringa trees that we grew from cuttings. They grow extremely fast here in Southern California, 4 - 8 inches a week, once you put them in the ground. We eat the freshly picked leaves and the pods all the time. The leaves boiled in 1/2 water and 1/2 chicken stock makes a wonderful green vegetable. We add onions, too.
If the leaves are very dark, that just means they had been on the tree a long time. The new growth leaves are light green.
I think the lighter colored leaves taste better.
Moringa leaves freeze well too if you squeeze as much air as possible out of the freezer bag. They have a long freezer life.
sorry to say this time around John is making a generalization about one taste from that tree that is NOT true. here in Florida these trees grow everywhere. I have a Moringa O. tree and the leave are tender milder tasting than spinach and not bitter at all so please dont be discouraged from eating them just because he says one particular kind seems bitter to him. this has a beautiful light spinach like taste and yes the tree hes standing in front of does not look like the beautiful tasting oleifera we have down here. i highly encourage you to eat these raw, or throw bunch of handfuls into your omelette in the morning. its amazing! even throw them in the juicer. and you dont need expensive dehydrator to dry these. clean them, throw them on your counter spaced apart, they will be dry in a mere few days, no effort :) then powder them in your coffee grinder. simple as that
Do Stuff with Niki! Dear you are right and He is also right. There is one form of this plant which has. A bit bitter taste leaves and bitter drumsticks These leaves are used for feeding. Cattle which is very much useful for cattle. The seeds & fruits(beans) of Iit used for medicines
I live in crystal river fl and had a small tree and for 2 winters it would get hit by freeze ..how do u protect yours from this
thank you JOhn for this very informative video on moringa, exactly what I needed. I start to grow it now and hopefully will be making my own soon.
I take my moringa powder in warm water, all I do is take 100gms @ of turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, keep that in a break fast table, n mix a teaspoon of it in warm water along with a tsp of moringa n honey, n have it at breakfast time, really amazing
Wonderful.
Turmeric past e
I'm going to do this too. I have all that ingredients but never tired combining it
My grandma did the same but she died very fast ! Too much of all thee stuff sent her to heaven very fast ! grandpa was behind the scam !
I do agree with you, MsLaburn, that John's way of taking the dehydrated leaves with his bare hands and putting it in a paperbag form who knows how clean it was is a no-no. I like his dehydrator being able to keep the leaves green in color. The simple way of airdrying it in the shade, at room temperature and in a screened room(protect it from bugs and flies) is what makes the leaves dark. This is the natural way of drying it and no artificial intervention.
Good technique. Like kale chop up the moriga first then rise it with a sieve or strainer. That takes away some of the worst bitter.
It's commonly used in cooking like spinach on soups mostly. It's very healthy and tastes so good. Filipinos love it! We call it Malunggay.
The blendtec does a great job powdering herbs!
I had a heck of a time getting galangal herb to powder with coffee grinders, so I tossed it in the blendtec, 10 minutes later it was wonderful!
Just bought 2 moringa seedlings because of your videos and also My grandma once used the leaves instead of more eggs when we cannot afford eggs for everybody back in the day. i guess this is how my grand parents survived WW2. it basically grow on salty tropical sand and fertilised by naturally occurring microorganism breaking down waste water. (Kacang kelur)
Moringa become famous when many Filipino migrate in around the world. Filipino share to other citizens that the MALUNGAY/MALUNGGAY/MORINGA CAN BE A GOOD VIAND OR ULAM, we know that medicinal but only in the Philippines The Malungay is food. All the ancient tribes in the Philippines used it as medicine and ulam down these Generation. It is good dish pas for me Chicken Moringa in coconut milk, its yummy promise try it, it is my favorite dish we call it Ginataang Manok sa Malungay. Tinolang Manok with Malungay. Thank you Sir . More power.
Wow, I just heard of Moringa being a "Super Slim Down" food on The View last week, and this video was made over 2 years old. John you really know your stuff. Thanks for the very informative video! Peace out, Michelle
Thank you for your lovely videos..learnt so much from them.
Thank you. Easy to understand you. And well presented.
Very informative video, well executed. Thank you.
Fresh leaves are absolutely full of un-touched goodness and holds 4 times the amount of chlorophyll than wheat-grass.
Superb overview.
Got a 6 foot tree that will go into my greenhouse this winter. See how that works. Got a whole bag of seeds for $5 which included postage. Can't wait to get some going. Think my solar dehydrator is a little too hot for this..it hits 238 and was actually built to distill water. Great video..Thanks.
Morninga is a tropical tree. You may be able to grow it outside in the summer, but you must move it inside in the winter.
Energy can not be destroyed only redirected. Fact of science truth. Raw, not Raw still get what you need from the source.
When it is powder form how much do you add for a tea drink i have 3 trees growing at the moment my wife is Filipino and she uses it in soups
WoW! Great to find you again, John...I'll be growing a plant pretty soon...YeS!!!! :)
very interesting... good stuff.... many thanks
Great natural food. Chopping down a tree is destructive and unnecessary. Leave the tree. Harvest the leaves.
Sonny Berry I could see why it might look bad but as it turns out cutting/pruning the tree is actually good for it. They grows back sturdier and with bigger leaves.
+Sonny Berry
Moringa's need pruning. Chopping it down to 3 feet is necessary for perennial Moringa trees. It will sprout new limbs, and keep growing. Truly an amazing tree. If you grow one yourself, be sure you prune it regularly- otherwise, it will resemble the Charlie Brown Christmas tree, except that it grows in excess of 15-20 feet per year
Sonny Berry ďc
Thanks..., good to know
I heard the whole tree is nutritional & can be used. Is this true? thank you, Canea
Both are the same as what I've read. Just that the dried moringa is more accessible being you can just pick a bottle of it at the store. Unless you live where it is grown. Here in Southern California or in Florida, you can grow them.
The dried ones can also be sprinkled into any soup, salad or dish, specially in powdered form.
I've tried this, but the small leaves make it a real painful process. But the end product is an amazing glowing green juice that has almost an oily texture to it. And when I say glowing, I mean GLOWING! It's unlike anything I've ever seen. Next to wheat grass the Moringa looks like it's from another planet. It's quite amazing.
What do you mean by the leaves " will store up to 1 year before it should be used?" In my country, we go outside pick the leaves and make tea
What do you know about 3rd world country, for years we have been using and have to tree in our backyard , you all now discover the use of it so don't knock what you don't know
Map of Asia moo
Meaning after you blend it to a powder, it will remain good for up to 1 year before throwing it away
Hey, thanks for directing me to this video. In Hawaii we have the fresh leaves at the farmer's market.
Great Vid ... by the way, Moringa is a great addition to lentil soups (East Indian Dal dishes) including the long pods known as drumstick. It is not just medicinal, it is used in East Indian cooking and adds a good body of flavor to the food. Yes it is is bitter when raw, but when cooked it tastes great. I've eaten it growing up. Thanks for sharing.
Hey John! I live in New York. do you think that morinda could be a good plant to grow here? I'd like to have this plant in my yard! Thanks you are a real good man...
I use just a wire strainer and by hand rub the dry leaves through so not to cause oxidation from a high powerd blender. I buy from Asian markets and it's not expensive. Also I don't make too much so to use after 1 or 2 months to ensure potency. Thanks for everything John I watch a lot of your videos. 👍
Ok I looked it up, for anyone else that wants to know, these are the benefits.~
The leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree have no parallel in the plant kingdom. The Moringa tree is the most nutritious in the world, with most of its benefits stored in the small green leaves of this unassuming plant.
Known as the Tree of Life, it contains more than 90 nutrients including 40 powerful antioxidants. In fact, practically every part of the plant contains important minerals and are a good source of protein, vitamins, beta-carotene, amino acids, and various phenolics.
Moringa leaves are small, thick, and tear-drop shaped and grow rapidly as the plant matures. The leaves are strong and firm and can be easily picked from the tree’s branches.
It's leaf powder contains all eight essential amino acids required for proper protein synthesis. It is rich in flavonoids, including Quercetin, Kaempferol, Beta-Sitosterol, Caffeoylquinic acid, and Zeatin. Stacked full of nutrients, anti-oxidants, and vital proteins, it is quite possibly the most amazing botanical ever studied.
Here are just a few benefits to consuming Moringa:
Increases the body’s immune system
Provides nourishment to the brain and body
Promotes energy
Decreases anxiety, depression, and sleep related disorders
Promotes cell structure of the body
Calms, moisturizes, and nourishes the skin
Promotes the normal functioning of the liver and kidney
Contains antioxidants
Promotes a healthy circulatory system
Supports normal sugar levels
Aids in stabilizing diabetes
Aids in reducing inflammation and related conditions like arthritis
It is also very comforting to the digestive tract. People with IBS or colitis are helped greatly by it. I think it may be because Moringa is a splendid pre-biotic food, which nourishes the beneficial (probiotic) bacteria in your gut.
Tell me about using UV on the plants after picking them to clean it, I would like more detail of how you do this please.
The way I dry is to remove the stalks full of leaves from the tree, make bunches and tie the stalks, +/- 15 stalks. Give them all a good rinsing in running water, Hang them in the shade stalks up, leaves down for a couple of days. Then I just rake the leaves using my fingers onto a drying tray then leave to dry out prior to grinding.
I need some moringa please
Wowww...last summer i sale enought plant of moringa❤❤🌴🐝
Thank you for your tutoring viveo, it helps a lot!
This is good info for me to know.. My future wife is a Srilankan and she has a Moringa tree in her backyard. I've tried both cooked beans and the leaves and it tastes delicious.
Here's a tip to save money when processing Moringa. Instead of buying an expensive food processor to chop it into fine powder, use the nutri bullet. The nutri bullet comes with a milling blade and it works perfect for powdering things like dried moringa or tumeric. I grow Moringa in Florida and we use it every day in our smoothies (also made with the nutri bullet)
Can you prepare it like Swiss chard or kale, stir fry or sauté? Thanks.
how much do you put in smoothies
+Rawrx 4u We use about a teaspoon
How much fresh leaves should I use
Rawrx 4u ub
I love moringa leaves, young long fruits and flowers. When Im young my father used the leaves juice for my wound to stop the bleeding. But what I really miss about it, is that the TINOLANG MANOK
The Trunk when you cut it looked almost like Bamboo etc.
can we share our information? you'r the best sight so far, because i prefer the dehydrator.
Been growing moringa for more than 20 yrs now. All the techniques you see here are relevant. So just absorb it folks! You're here to learn. You can always ask but irrelevant speculations will never give you any of the vitamins this wonder tree provides. Chill!
Just finished harvesting my mooring and drying it by your same process and then I turned it into powder also. It's the best! If anyone needs some just write me here....I grow it in Florida and it's very organic and not processed in any way! Thanks for your info! Gail
+Gail Turner Hello Gail Turner I live in south florida and would like some moringa powder please email me info camposlily5@gmail.com

I want to share to you guys by God's help I'm Stage 3 cancer through the use of moringa seed I'm healed.
thanks so much for sharing!! i just wish those dehydrators or high power blenders weren't as expensive!
Moringa Farms. Com has a great source of Moringa. They have the Moringa in powder form and capsule. They also have the oils, which is great for the hair and skin.
Hello.. There are so many moringa in the Philippines,I am so interested to have moringa leaves dryer like yours.
This is what I do, if I can, I rinse the trees with a hose, If not, after I cut the leaves I rinse them. Once rinsed, I pluck the leaves with a sliding motion and put the leafs over a cardboard box and dry them in the shade. Cardboard or other humidity absorbing material like canvas for kots is very important so it won't get fungus. After 4 days i put the dried leaves in a microwave tray and pass it for about 40 seconds so any bacteria will die. Then with your hands(use glove) crush the leaves.
I'm on your other channel can u make more of this type video thanks seeds & other stuff ty one of best way grow it from seed thanks
Very nice video, I am just learning about Moringa and I will make an effort to plant on in my back yard in Cabo Verde Island and use it as often as I can. Good job. thanks. Any advice on how to make the tea?
thank you so much for sharing this video, god bless you
Good morning I wish to say a little about this tree,it is how you should take it. You should not let it fall down to the ground cos this leave you can't wash like other veggies this is according to my grandma's. One should hold it as you break the branches then remove the leaves into a bowl of water then strain it a few times then only you cook it. Why because as you wash rubbing them it will be bitter so to avoid this my grandma's advice is to follow her method. Not to cut the tree down but to break the small branch one at a time.
Fresh Moringa leaves is perfect on its own as a snack- wash and dry, place in a bottle container, then pour in some asap boi powder, shake - and just enjoy, as is, or refrigerated.
Hello, John.
My goal is to dry the moringa leaves and put them into capsules. So, can I dry the moringa leaves naturally, without using any mechanical process? Do they dry enough to remove all the moisture content in the leaves? Let me explain first, that we started a moringa farm in the Philippines and we are growing about 2000 trees. We just have had our first harvest.
We have built 4x4x8 metal sheds where we hang the pods for natural dry. After about 3 to 5 days the leaves start falling into a net, we let them dry for another week and then process the leaves into powder and finally we encapsulate them.
The temperature inside the sheds gets to 34C in the afternoon and, technically, we don't have winter here.
We are concerned about the temperature variation between day and night, the air humidity interfering on the drying process and the time of leaves exposure to the outside.
Our intention is to keep all-natural since we do not use any chemical, pesticides, and/or fertilizer, other than the moringa harvest leftover. We drink the same water we give to our trees and the air is pure since we are on the edge of the pacific ocean.
We are trying not to use commercial dehydrator or stoves to dry our moringa but I have some concerns.
Any help will very much appreciate my friend. We love your videos always. Thank you so much...
Can u please send me some ready moringa iam from Uganda East africa
Hi John, You said a lot about the dehydration process but not much about the plants properties and benefits. I have never heard of it before and am interested in its raw values. Thanks~ ha guess I can just google it.
log in to Philippine medicinal plants. God Bless
I love moringa. It's so hard to get in Sydney. I fry with onion and garlic.
"Tinolang manok" with moringa looks and tastes very delicious. My mother always cook it for us. However, I'm concerned about the cooking process. The moringa along with the chicken are left to boil for a few minutes. Will there still be nutrients left?
Sometimes I make green eggs(w/moringa) and ham(veggie bacon) :D
Great Smoothies mixed with Ginger, Tumeric Powder, & a Dash of Black pepper, for the Tumeric etc. Coconut Oil etc etc.
@rumihumphrey i also wanted to mention that the leaves are delicious sautéed and in stews and while the powder looks great if your cultivating it is an unnecessary step. i eat it raw right off the plant and love it although light sauté is good. some platens i've noticed are more bitter than others, I wonder if it's the phenotype or environmental factors.
You can grow Moringa in 7 gallon pots. Bring them inside for the winter and grow like houseplants. Them take them back outside in the spring. Just be sure to let the soil dry out between watering.
At the plantages on hawai they do not take down the branches..but bend them and pluk the leaves
Never knew maringa tree has that much nutrients and benefits, I grew up and eat it all my life
Great video for the caribbean to export !
i am curious why you would chop the tree down instead of growing it to its own demise, as it is very prolific with sprouts and side branches?? Anyway all these claims for all these super foods alarm me because it may not contain ANY of them imo does it not matter the soil it is grown in? Here in Florida I grow it in 6.5 soil sandy and in Florida the nutrition you add to the soil drains thru quickly. So I never know the actual nutrient value of my homegrown, or anyone else's commercial or private for that matter. Many food charts are from 50 years ago when the soil was very rich and not raped like it is now. I also want to mention that it grows long seed pods but my tree survived this winter, we had a mild North FL winter for once, and its ready for harvest again. I love your hint about the paper bag and also about the dry container. So practical. Thanx as always thumbs up!
He used a harvest method called "coppicing"...look it up. This method is VERY sustainable for moringa sp. and has been used around the world for centuries.
Where is being done at,? May I ask,? In the USA,? Or Abroad etc.? Thanks for sharing very interesting etc. Now in 2019 I just learned about Moringa 's Health Benefits etc.
I found some Moringa leaves at my local 99 Ranch Market. It's labeled Malangai as this is what the phillipines call them. I'm going to use these in a salad.
We call it malunggay here in the Philippines. I never thought this tree can be that magnificent!
yes, we do call moringa , "malunggay" here in the philippines. may i add that what people say about it's healing properties are all true..
iviewutoob easy to grow your own
No mention of seed pods here which are cooked all over Asia and delicious in a curry or soup.
Great informative video. New subscriber here just wanting to know of any difference's in overall health after taking Moringa . Please make a video if possible really like that your so knowledgeable . Bless You and thanks for sharing with the world.
He meant you should use it before within 1 year. I would recommend using it sooner unless you have really air tight packaging. Also store the moringa in the shade/dark.
I drink up any info about Moringa! Just planted some seeds. Should germinate in a few days. Cutting them off will just make them sprout more. The discarded stems make great mulch. Also, to eat fresh, the young leaves pack the same nutrients, but taste great. It's the old leaves that are bitter.
Fabulous,I got a mess of seeds. Can't wait till they germinate!
The lightbrown / beige Moringa is dryet directly in the son. If its dryet in the dark, it is still green and has the full nutriens.
can you please provide info about UV light system and dryer?
I think the temperature at 118 must be Fahrenheit; if it is converted into Centigrade, it is around 47-48 Centigrade degrees. It is said in general if the temperature of living stuff is increased above 43 Centigrade degrees, the protein structures become denatured.
Very good info and videos...
What’s the beat place to get it from, until I can grow it.
Amazon buy seeds.
thank you this is what i was looking for
that's my favorite vege :) good for chicken soup
I started growing one. It’s taking forever.
Your far infrared sauna most likely puts off a fair amount of EMF, so keep your drying tray on the opposite wall of the elements. If I were you, I'd put a (near) infrared bulb in a box and use the heat from that to make your own dehydrator.
thanks for this information,
Thanks John great video!
No emf from the type i have its a sunlighten sauna not the rod heating type but the carbon sheet type a true far infrared it produces a softer heat also but thanks for the input
Hi John, i need to buy 1 dry vegetables machine for myself at home. please recommend which brand is good to use.
I need online shopping because i'm living in VietNam .
Thank you.
Yuki
Love you guys! I Buy all my Organic Powders from them including Moringa Powder , they are great :)
Nice mustache, John! Oh yea and the pods, I grew up eating the pods, my mom called them 'drumsticks' and they were so tasty and stringy except for the big seeds. Not sure of they're edible though.
Love it going to grow my own thanks
You have to taste the fruit of Moringa.Meat - like taste. My favorite
Moringa is used in Indian Subcontinent and Ayuverda Medicine for along time. We also eat its fruit stalk in curries, real tasty.
Wow thank you. Have food, direct clear information.
niki k , I live in Florida and am just this year hearing about Moringa tree. Sounds like just what I need for my damaged immune system. Could you send me some seeds or cuttings from your tree, whatever it takes to begin rooting one. Your tree has already been climatized to Florida so should work well for me in Central Florida? I would like to be able to eat leaves fresh off the tree or in salads and your tree sounds just right for that. Thanks for your attention.
im taking moringa oil. "Life oil" is the brand name and available in all major leading drugstore in the philippines. it is the best moringa food supplement because it is cold process therefore several times more effective than dried leaves.
u can makr ur own .. dnt waste money
some studies done on using the moringa bark, for alternative energy.. nothing has concrete has surfaced though
